I was referred to Mr. Friedman from another family law group in Richmond who could not take my case due to conflicts. Apparently my ex interviewed attorneys all around town. I scheduled the appointment and was really impressed with the initial meeting. Like any good salesman he is very good at telling you what you want to hear. When I met with him he had one of his associates with him that is obviously newer, "in training" and he used the term you get 2 attorneys for the price of one. Basically it's I brought this associate just in case you don't have enough money for me and this one is less expensive and I hold her hand anyway. Yeah right. This should have been a big red flag.
I noticed as well when he gets one or 2 negative reviews all of a sudden the positive ones start appearing out of the blue. His co workers and friends start posting the positive reviews. Of course they are fake, they are not detailed and took someone 30 seconds to post. If someone takes time to post an in depth review, pay attention.. Most people don't want to put their personal information out there or take the time to write a review. If i can just save one person the same misery I underwent it will be worth it.
I have been 8 years in and out of family court trying to get support for me and my little girls and have had a few attorneys. Even one had been disciplined by the bar and was a horrible experience but even he was no match for this doozy and Mr Friedman is my only review. He takes the cake.
So, Mr. Friedman, will pad his expenses. You will get bills and have no idea what he did or for how long. $3,000 for court prep. Interesting. What prep? $2,000 for court date. Bam your retainer is gone. POOF. A few weeks later he gets some information requests from the other attorney. Then you get the email. Put another 5,000 in or we have to withdraw. Oh really? I just gave you 5,000 and I just got a bill with 0 balance.
No maam, he says that was last month. You owe us $4,986.59 for work this month. Guess what? I borrow the $5,000 and he still sends me a motion to withdraw... Really. I am a single mom of 2 beautiful little girls and he coerces me to bring the account current and drops me.
Do not use this attorney. Apparently as soon as you start to question is ethics and where the money is going he doesn't have the answer and drops you as a client but just after he bleeds you dry. Now I have 2 little girls and a child support case that I have no more money for. Thanks Mr. Friedman you're a real winner!! The positive reviews are friends, family and coworkers. For instance, Joy Hickman one of his positive, raving client reviews on Google works in his office! Interview others there are ones that actually care about the clients they serve and not about their own pockets.

Mr. Friedman represented me in my child support case. In the order, written by his firm, I was owed $10,000 in child support arrears to be paid in small payments over a protracted period of time. (I later learned I was entitled to the child support arrears and DCSE would have garnished my ex's pay and seized his tax return, had Friedman not written this extended payment schedule in the order. This was something a family law attorney should be aware of and advocate for their clients). Knowing their firm negotiated this disadvantaged order, he then proceeded to sue me for being unable to pay legal fees. My inability to pay was directly related to their poor knowledge of child support law and inability to advocate for client rights. In addition to this significant deficiency, he moved forward with legal action attempting to garnish my wages for payment of legal fees with his firm. I attempted to make a payment that was affordable within the awarded child support payments but he was unwilling to accept the payment I could make. This directly resulted in bankruptcy as the only option available allowing me to support my child with the deficient order created by Friedman Law.

I went through many years of an awful custody battle and many many lawyers who promised to do everything they could for me only to end up sitting in court silent while I was crucified by my ex's lawyer and then walk out of court with excuses for THEIR actions. Mr. Friedman had his hands full with my case by the time I went to him. And needed to correct all the damage from my previous so called attorney's but he never batted an eye and he followed through with everything he said he was going to do. Once we got to court he actually went toe to toe with my ex's lawyer and I was finally able to start getting results for once. I remember one night before court, I had to take him some papers and he was there with us until about 10pm in his gym clothes getting my case ready for the following day. And when I was terrified to go into the courtroom he always made me feel better and I knew I could actually trust him. I will forever be greatful.

Rick is a brilliant lawyer who is compassionate and committed to his clients. I found myself in a horrible situation due to my previous lawyers negligence. Rick took my case over and reunited me with my son. I will always be grateful.

Rick and his staff were well prepared. Rick was on time, had his questions ready to cross examine, and also had back up plans to his back up plans (which were not needed). Rick has not only won my case once, but twice. He solves all problems we come across and gives my family to ability to relax and not spend time stressing over the issues, minor or large.

Lindsay Dugan is the best attorney I had the pleasure to work with. I have be in and out of court the last 8 years dealing with custody and visitation hearings. I was served once again and my court hearing was fast approaching (after asking for a continuance appearing with no attorney). With the continuance being granted (around the Christmas/new year holiday and 2 snow storms), I was not abe to find an attorney that was able to appear with me on the date of the hearing. I was desperate and in need to find representation immediately. With only 4 days till my hearing I had met with Lindsay Dugan and Mr. Friedman. They were very understanding and empathic of my situation and need. Lindsay was available on the date of my hearing and I retained the firm to represent me. Lindsay was fabulous! She worked on my case the best she could with the limited time I presented her with. She put in 100% in preparation and 200% in court. I could have not done this without her guidance and support. If you are in need of an attorney I would recommend Lindsay and the Friedman Law firm with no doubt. Thank you Lindsay and team!

I landed at The Friedman Law Firm frustrated and stressed out. My initial consultation was supposed to be one hour but lasted over two hours with Rick Friedman and Matt Morris.... yes two lawyers ! I was only charged for one hour. They really calmed me down. Matt Morris, who has moved to government since handling my case, was a true gentleman and a experienced negotiator, very low key but effective. The opposing attorney was, what I felt, very hostile, but Matt seemed to mellow him out as negotiations progressed. During the four months of negotiations I questioned a few charges with Beth Spencer ( the financial lady ) and some charges were adjusted to my satisfaction and done in a friendly manner. Melinda is the receptionist ( and probably several other titles.... always busy ), always greeted me with a smile and a cold soda. After Matt left the firm Wyatt Taylor took over my case. Wyatt took my case at the same rate as Matt even though he is a higher paid attorney. Wyatt quickly caught up on the details of my case, at no charge, and tied up the case in a prompt, professional and cost effective manner. Danielle his assistant, though almost nine months pregnant was very nice and seemed to know her job well though I only met her once. I will not miss the stressful situation but I will miss the staff at the Friedman Law Firm. Yes, I had to pay for good representation, but that's how it is with any reputable law firm as the old saying goes " You get what you paid for". I would recommend and use this law firm again.............Mike

Although the experience I was going through was awful, I found Rick and his staff to be so kind and feel like they definitely had my best interests at heart. They seemed to have a way of making calm out of madness and had a way to relay that to me and make me feel at ease with the whole divorce process. They were knowledgeable, efficient and caring. They were also always available and responded quickly to any concern I had. I really appreciated their overall concept of doing the right thing. I feel they are the #1 law firm. I will miss them.

Rick and his firm were extremely attentive to my needs and they were extremely knowledgable. Even more importantly, we WON! I send many referrals their way because it's so important to find an attorney who actually cares!

I just read a review on this site from Bobby, who hired Mr. Friedman to handle his custody case with a difficult ex. My name is Bobby and I hired Mr. Friedman. Perhaps there are 2 clients that have the same name with similar cases at the exact same time. Mr. Friedman was terribly unprepared and did not even show up for one court date. I paid him over 30,000 dollars and lost every aspect of the custody case, and the divorce is still not settled. I have hired a new attorney and would not recommend Mr. Friedman to do anything.
