Faraji A. Rosenthall has been a daily presence in courthouses across Northern Virginia for over 15 years, trying criminal cases ranging from traffic and drug offenses to violent crimes such as robberies and manslaughters.
After graduating from Georgetown University Law School in 2004, Mr. Rosenthall was appointed as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney (Prosecutor) in Fairfax County, where he handled thousands of criminal cases in his four-year tenure, including reckless drivings, Fairfax DWIs and serious felonies. Mr. Rosenthall gained not only the experience of handling dozens of cases every day, but the knowledge of the inner workings of the Fairfax criminal system. He knows what prosecutors are thinking and what kinds of deals they will offer, because he was one. He knows which judges are sympathetic and which ones are harsh. Having this kind of inside knowledge is invaluable to Mr. Rosenthall’s clients.
Born and raised in Fairfax County, Mr. Rosenthall is himself the son of a criminal lawyer. He often tagged along with his father to work, absorbing the intricacies of the legal process from a young age. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Hampton University, Mr. Rosenthall began studying at Georgetown University, where he found himself drawn to criminal law. One of his professors, Julie O’Sullivan, a former clerk to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, helped solidify Mr. Rosenthall’s passion for criminal justice. He spent a summer interning with Families Against Mandatory Minimums, a nonprofit organization working with individuals facing lengthy, often absurdly unfair, prison sentences at both the federal and state level. He also clerked forthe Honorable Kathleen McKay, a Fairfax County Circuit Court judge, receiving invaluable insight into the inner workings of the Fairfax Courts, as well as the thought processes of an esteemed judge.
In 2009, Mr. Rosenthall left the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to start his own firm, using the knowledge and skill he gained as a prosecutor to help people charged with crimes in Fairfax County. Since opening its doors, the Law Office of Faraji Rosenthall has gotten successful results for hundreds of people facing serious charges.

worst first experience
My lawyer was negligent when it came to my case. I was forced to take a plea I really didn’t want to take. I was informed multiple times that I wouldn’t be going to jail at all, and I ended up getting sentenced to 3 months. It was my first offense, I’m full time in college and had a full time job. Mr...
Ms. Lyons, There appears to be a significant misunderstanding about what happened in your case and what options were available to you. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience. As you are aware, you were facing several felony charges related to multiple incidents. The plea deal I negotiated allowed you to avoid becoming a convicted felon in that all felony charges were dismissed or reduced. My office is, and always has been, open to you anytime Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (without appointment) to view the security footage, police reports and witness statements from every store involved in your cases. At that time, i will also be happy to show you the record from the cases of the other individuals charged and demonstrate that you clearly received a far better outcome than the others. The only person facing charges as extensive as yours pled to multiple felonies. The others were only implicated in a fraction of the charges you were facing. I’m sincerely disappointed the six weeks was so disruptive to your life. Jail is by definition a jarring and awful outcome that I seek to find every possible way to avoid for all of my clients. When someone hires me I fully understand that they are trusting me with their freedom, future and health and I in no way ever trivialize that responsibility. I would absolutely never minimize my efforts or do anything to allow any of my clients to suffer unnecessarily. Anytime I advise a client to take a plea deal that will result in jail time it is only after every possible other option has been exhausted and when the plea deal presents the best possible opportunity for the client moving forward based upon the evidence in the case. Please let me know if Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is not convenient for you and I will happily schedule an appointment outside those hours to review the files.
