Thomas Maronick Jr., Esq. is founder and senior partner at Maronick Law LLC
The firm handles criminal defense, including DUIs, bankruptcies, family law, collection, wills, and business law, and litigation, as well as personal injury and accident cases.
Mr. Maronick is the former deputy clerk to a Circuit Court chief judge.
He is licensed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland as well as the State of Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
He has served as legal analyst for local radio and TV stations during the trials of public interest. Appearances locally include WBAL, FOX, WMDT, and WMAR, serving as a regular panelist on "The Marc Steiner Show," on WEAA, being quoted by The Baltimore Sun and Daily Times. Internationally and nationally, Mr. Maronick has served as a regular legal analyst to Canadian cable news, CCTV News, including on their prime-time broadcasts.
Offices are in Baltimore City, Ocean City and Annapolis. Satellite offices are in Bel Air and Silver Spring. But the firm takes cases all over the State.
Mr. Maronick is also a well-regarded jazz singer and songwriter and host of a weekend radio program on legal and current events issues on WCBM.

Replied last March 27, 2026The problem with defamatory, anonymous reviews like this which also personally attack one of our lawyers is that we are unable to respond to a specific case without addressing speculation as to whom this could be v. facts knowing who the poster is. We also are limited in what can be said due to confidentiality. This particular review was copy-pasted from Yelp, widely known for allowing defamatory reviews, downgrading positive reviews if they are asked for by the business, and allowing higher placement of negative reviews. We have flagged this review for removal by Avvo, but will respond here in the interim out of respect for Avvo's generally-better standards. It's perhaps why our ratings on Google from 1000's of clients are 4.7 and above for all of our main offices. Avvo has ranked us a 4.6 - 4.8 consistently. If this is the client this case most-closely resembles (and again we can't say for sure) this was an extremely serious case where the testimony of the defendant and the alleged victim couldn't have been more at odds at trial and in this case the judge did not believe the defendant's testimony, but believed the alleged victim. Unfortunately those are some of the hardest trials because if the judge picks a side, sometimes the judge goes all in for the side picked. This was a two-day trial after the case had been postponed in fact. The judge sentenced very harshly for someone with no record, nearly refusing the defendant his right to present mitigation (which his counsel had to fight to make sure she did). In spite of strong mitigation and background and aforementioned lack of record, the sentence was extremely harsh and the case was immediately appealed by us including requesting an appeal bond, which the judge denied, and a bail review in the next court which wasn't immediately granted. After hiring another firm ultimately, not right away, to handle the appeal which is the client's absolute right, the client charged back his entire higher court fee, meaning he couldn't be refunded until that processed had resolved, which he was notified of because all sides had to wait for the results of the chargeback. When the process resolved in favor of the law firm, he was in fact refunded a substantial portion of his fee through his same method of payment. Again, we cannot name the person we think this could be due to confidentiality and speculation. It's truly unfortunate that rather than acknowledge the seriousness of the case and the position taken by the trial judge, the reviewer has chosen to write bad reviews about his lawyers. Anyone can write bad reviews, but in criminal law no one wins every case, and that's why the process allows for appeals if one disagrees with the decision of one judge in one court. We are nonetheless disappointed to see this review, and if this is the client this review most closely resembles obviously we hoped the judge would have taken a different view at the trial.

Replied last November 08, 2025This is not Nick Copper responding to this review, but the reviewer posted an anonymous review on Google regarding statements about Nick Copper. It was not clear this was a real client and there was no way to tie the statements made to a real experience. There was no one to sue, because first of all the review was anonymous. The reviewer then identified himself and a professional response to what was now known as an actual client in which the reviewer made threats to Mr. Copper regarding the situation. This actual client is not being sued for expressing his views however inaccurate about the experience or for any other reason. The facts of the representation bear out an outstanding result in court that conflicts with the description of the representation the client provided. Due to confidentiality the law firm is not able to discuss any other aspect of the representation. It should be noted that upon hearing of the client's purported experience, senior leadership called him personally to discuss any concerns and his reply was that he was "not interested" in discussing the concerns, just posting a one-star review of Mr. Copper.
