He predicted the possible legal and psychological tactics they might employ, the traps and pitfalls to avoid, so that our cases could be made unmistakably and without introducing contradictions. Drawing on his extensive experience Scott was able not only to accurately predict the responses of legal bureaucracies, but was very familiar with personalities at the individual level. At every stage, as options became available, as decisions needed to be made, he was there to explain the nuances, the alternatives, and likely results of each, - and to do so with great patience and understanding.
