Perfect lawyer for first-time client

I lucked out finding Jim randomly online. Once you realize you might need a lawyer, it’s intimidating and daunting if you don’t know where to start. You worry about pricing, and convincing them to represent you…but after calling around to other law firms and feeling more helpless, I found James and h...e put me at ease right from the start! He listened to my claim and explained exactly why I had a case. His pricing was clear and fair. And basically, Jim guided me through a discrimination claim against my employer that ended in a good settlement without drawing things out any further. I especially love how communicative Jim was through email and text in spite of both our busy lives. He made time to care about me and this case. I’m grateful.

Honest, Dedicated, Compassionate

I called James Hartt because I believed I was discriminated against and was denied a job because of it. I explained the situation in detail to Mr. Hartt and, he felt it was a case worth fighting. (As did I) He was well educated in procedures, legalities, technicalities, and was incredibly helpful in... breaking down the process to me. Any time there was any communication between the employer, other attorneys, and the court, James was quick to inform me of what was going on. I was well aware there was a chance the court might not rule in my favor. However, I was extremely confident Mr. Hartt would handle this case professionally and with extreme care. During the age of COVID it was quite refreshing to have someone as compassionate and dedicated to your case like Mr. Hartt. James never quit working this case from the moment he took it on, until the moment it was finished. He went to bat for me when no one else would and won. I could not be happier with the work that James and his team put into my case. The outcome was far greater than I could have ever hoped for. I would recommend Mr. James Hartt to anyone who is in need of a lawyer who will fight FOR YOU, who will educate, offer compassion, and honesty every step of the way. My family and I are grateful for everything he has done for us.

Excellent reviews for non excellent work.

I saw the reviews for this attorney and felt empowered. Let’s put it out there. I lost my case. I can say I am bitter. But that’s not why I don’t recommend him. I don’t recommend him because he took calls without our information in front of him, I had to write my briefings myself and he forward my cr...eated briefings and his responses based only on my efforts. Literally with the FWD still on it. Weird I lost. (Sarcasm). Look, if you are going to spend the money, don’t spend it on someone who will literally scold YOU for asking him to take effort in your case. He didn’t respond timely, took only my created words(I’m not a lawyer) and was not prepared. Bummer considering it couldn’t have been more cut and dry. Humiliated to lose because it was such a slam dunk but when your attorney isn’t invested why would the judge be. Hire literally anybody else. It’s like I literally threw 3k that I borrowed during Covid out a window. To be mistreated at work and then by someone you PAID is truly disheartening when he KNEW this was the last of your money. Instead of saying “I am overwhelmed I cannot do you justice” he took it so he could pay for his vacation! Bummer.

Trish, you complimented me on my Closing Written Summation, saying it was "on point". I believe you what you really are upset at is the fact that you received a No Probable Cause Determination. I sincerely wish the Division had decided this one differently, but no lawyer can win them all. I won't dignify your ad hominem attacks except to say that I have a young family. We take one or two vacations per year and I do NOT apologize for taking them. Gd knows, I need a vacation after dealing with a client like you. Try to remember that lawyers are human beings with families before you launch into them like this with unfair attacks.

Pay A Fee And Watch Them Flee...

Age Discrimination - I filled out the many forms, summitted and wrote up everything with supporting voice recordings. Just pay my $3000 fee and answer their questions, he said. Did anyone answer my many questions? No. I don't how the process works, don't worry he said. We will talk prior to the call,... nope! Oh, wait... he texted, "You hit it out of the ballpark." Really? The employer didn't provide any of my requested items. You see, I'm not employed so no access to employer evidence. Mr. Hartt states (afterward), discovery doesn't exist at the State level. This seemed important to know. I had lots of questions, most with no response. Mr Hartt doesn't do appeals. "I cannot represent you in an appeal because I’m not in a public lawyer." Later, Mr Hartt states "...if you want a second kick at the can, federal court is nice..." "My retainer is $5500 which includes $400 filing fee and $100 Service of process fee but it could be a nice second chance. Oh, wait... we can't go Federal. If ANY lawyer asks for a fee and NOT an hourly rate.... don't walk, RUN!!! I have every email and text from this professional. What a huge mistake!

If you want to take this offline, I’d be happy to speak to you about your case. I am not an “Appellate” lawyer so it is true that I don’t handle appeals. It’s also entirely possible that you performed well at your Fact Finding Conference and yet did not get a “Probable Cause” Determination. I told you, as I tell all clients at the beginning that these cases are “risky”. There’s never a guarantee of prevailing, and while I wish we had received a Probable Cause Determination in your case, we did not. But it is 100% accurate that there is no discovery process during the DHR Investigation. I wish there were. Again, please consider calling me if you wish to discuss your case with me personally.

My review of an A+ Attorney

I hired James to help me after I was wrongfully terminated from my position at an NYS agency. He helped me immensely throughout the process and always returned my calls in a timely manner if I had questions about the complaint we filed with the Division of Human Rights. We ended up moving the case to... Federal Court because I was seeking a higher payout. James had informed me along the way that one of my witness could end up facing criminal charges should we proceed further into Federal Court, James always made sure I was aware of all the risks along the way. I decided to drop the case at the Federal level because I did not want to risk my witness’s freedom in the pursuit of more money. This served as an example of how James puts his clients first, not how much money he can makes, surely he could have made much more if we were to proceed. James promptly funded the remainder of the retainer for the case. I’ve had bad luck getting money back from attorneys in the past, but this was not the case with James. Over the years I’ve contact James regarding a few legal questions and he has always responded immediately. For example 2 years after I hired James, I had an administrative issue arise my new employer which caused me a great deal of stress. I text James late on a Friday night because I was so distraught, I didn’t know what to do, and was in a complete panic. James took time out of his weekend to consult with me about the incident first thing Saturday morning. I felt so much better knowing someone as knowledgeable as James is always there for me if I needed it. From my experience, it’s not easy to find an attorney that won’t just tell you what you want to hear so they can get your money, James certainly stands above the rest by offering fair rates, along with his specialized knowledge of the law, and compassion for his clients while seeking justice. I never take the time to write reviews but I decided to do so because I can’t thank James enough for the support he has provided me over the years. If you’re looking from an attorney that will stand by your side during some of your worst days, and help restore peace to your life then James is your guy.
