Expect endless excuses

I hired James Hartt to represent me against a government agency for violating my human rights as a female with a disability. I hired him for a second case against my employer for retaliation. Both cases were dismissed as NPC. I have a third retaliation case pending with the NYSDHR and will not ha...ve Mr. Hartt represent me again. He did very little in either case; albeit the minimum required which was basically copying and pasting my written complaint into legal format. He added very little to the fact finding conference that took place failing to point out anything relevant or pertinent to my case. He was inconsistent with his information yet consistent with making excuses each time I had a question or need. Several thousand dollars wasted only to be failed in both cases.

Pay A Fee And Watch Them Flee...

Age Discrimination - I filled out the many forms, summitted and wrote up everything with supporting voice recordings. Just pay my $3000 fee and answer their questions, he said. Did anyone answer my many questions? No. I don't how the process works, don't worry he said. We will talk prior to the call,... nope! Oh, wait... he texted, "You hit it out of the ballpark." Really? The employer didn't provide any of my requested items. You see, I'm not employed so no access to employer evidence. Mr. Hartt states (afterward), discovery doesn't exist at the State level. This seemed important to know. I had lots of questions, most with no response. Mr Hartt doesn't do appeals. "I cannot represent you in an appeal because I’m not in a public lawyer." Later, Mr Hartt states "...if you want a second kick at the can, federal court is nice..." "My retainer is $5500 which includes $400 filing fee and $100 Service of process fee but it could be a nice second chance. Oh, wait... we can't go Federal. If ANY lawyer asks for a fee and NOT an hourly rate.... don't walk, RUN!!! I have every email and text from this professional. What a huge mistake!

If you want to take this offline, I’d be happy to speak to you about your case. I am not an “Appellate” lawyer so it is true that I don’t handle appeals. It’s also entirely possible that you performed well at your Fact Finding Conference and yet did not get a “Probable Cause” Determination. I told you, as I tell all clients at the beginning that these cases are “risky”. There’s never a guarantee of prevailing, and while I wish we had received a Probable Cause Determination in your case, we did not. But it is 100% accurate that there is no discovery process during the DHR Investigation. I wish there were. Again, please consider calling me if you wish to discuss your case with me personally.

"Great Super Lawyer"

I hired Mr. Hartt for a discrimination case. In the beginning I was going to give up on the case and I told Mr., Hartt about this and Mr Hartt really believed in my case and that we were going to prevail, so I continue with the case. His writing skills and expertise was out of this world, not to ment...ion every time I had a question I will text him or email him and he will always respond in a timely manner. James Hartt is a very great lawyer he has a great heart, his passion to help people is amazing and his legal fees are well than fair. I enjoyed working with Mr. Hartt and if I ever have any issues again which I hope I don't I know who to contact. We need more lawyers in this world like Mr. Hartt who cares about there clients and put there Heart in every case just like Mr. Harrt does. Thank you again James! You are the best!

My review of an A+ Attorney

I hired James to help me after I was wrongfully terminated from my position at an NYS agency. He helped me immensely throughout the process and always returned my calls in a timely manner if I had questions about the complaint we filed with the Division of Human Rights. We ended up moving the case to... Federal Court because I was seeking a higher payout. James had informed me along the way that one of my witness could end up facing criminal charges should we proceed further into Federal Court, James always made sure I was aware of all the risks along the way. I decided to drop the case at the Federal level because I did not want to risk my witness’s freedom in the pursuit of more money. This served as an example of how James puts his clients first, not how much money he can makes, surely he could have made much more if we were to proceed. James promptly funded the remainder of the retainer for the case. I’ve had bad luck getting money back from attorneys in the past, but this was not the case with James. Over the years I’ve contact James regarding a few legal questions and he has always responded immediately. For example 2 years after I hired James, I had an administrative issue arise my new employer which caused me a great deal of stress. I text James late on a Friday night because I was so distraught, I didn’t know what to do, and was in a complete panic. James took time out of his weekend to consult with me about the incident first thing Saturday morning. I felt so much better knowing someone as knowledgeable as James is always there for me if I needed it. From my experience, it’s not easy to find an attorney that won’t just tell you what you want to hear so they can get your money, James certainly stands above the rest by offering fair rates, along with his specialized knowledge of the law, and compassion for his clients while seeking justice. I never take the time to write reviews but I decided to do so because I can’t thank James enough for the support he has provided me over the years. If you’re looking from an attorney that will stand by your side during some of your worst days, and help restore peace to your life then James is your guy.

Kevin, I represented you throughout the Division of Human Rights Investigation, which was a 6 month process. Unfortunately, your case did not result in a "Probable Cause" determination. These are tough cases to prevail in, and I always tell new clients that there is certainly no guarantee of victory. While it is true that I do not handle appeals, I was willing to represent you in Federal Court per the terms of my Fee Agreement for Federal Court matters. I am sorry that you feel this way and wish it had resulted in a win, but as I wrote above, I can't win them all.
