Biography
Tanya Helfand opened her first office in 1997 in Rockaway and then a second office in Livingston in 2007. This year the offices were consolidated to a larger location in Whippany on Route 10 to accommodate clients in both locations.
With 20years of legal experience, Ms. Helfand focuses her practice in the area of Family Law She is a Certified Matrimonial . Helfand is on the Superior Court’s Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel in Morris County, and is also referred by the courts as an economic mediator. She is a member of Matrimonial Inn of Court. She will always try to negotiate or mediate your matter first to resolve the case amicably; however, if you cannot obtain a fair and reasonable settlement outside of Court, Ms.Helfand and her staff are prepared to properly defend you through the conclusion of trial. She is direct and practical in all areas of practice. Ms. Helfand has successfully represented both men and women with complex custody and financial matters through negotiation as well as trial through conclusion. Settlement is best, but sometimes pursuing the matter in Court is necessary.
A new service provided at Helfand & Associates is mediated pre-nuptial agreements.
Ms. Helfand handles bankruptcy matters including Chapter 7 & 13. For two years, Ms. Helfand was a member of the Bankruptcy Inn of Court in Northern New Jersey. Ms. Helfand also handles guardianships. For several years, the Morris County Surrogate has appointed Ms. Helfand as independent counsel in guardianship matters, performing investigations and representing the incompetent individual.
Ms. Helfand has an extensive business background, which is extremely helpful with all the areas of her practice. Ms. Helfand is a business person. Prior to opening her office, she owned retail businesses and has helped professionals with their practices.
Before opening her own firm, Ms. Helfand worked as an associate at the law office of Herman Osofsky, Esq. in Passaic County.
Ms. Helfand is on the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Services of Central New Jersey. Her professional memberships include Morris County, Essex County, New Jersey State Bar Associations and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Plus, Tanya is an active member of the Planning Committee for the Jewish Law Symposium and the Board of Women’s Philanthropy forUJA.
