Biography

I practice family law so I can support people through some of the most challenging transitions of their lives. I can help you with legal representation in all aspects of family law, including divorce, child and spousal support, child custody, interstate custody and relocation disputes, as well as domestic violence matters. As the Managing Partner of the Family Law Practice at Callagy Law, I work with a team of passionate negotiators and experienced litigators who advocate tirelessly for our clients. Whatever issue you are facing, you deserve my experienced team by your side.

After fifteen years in the banking and insurance industries, I entered the family law field knowing I could make a significant contribution to individuals and their families with my unique combination of financial, legal, and negotiation skills. I am proud of what my team and I have been able to achieve, becoming one of the most compassionate and innovative family law practices in New Jersey.

Because of my extensive corporate audit background, I am the best option for clients with high-net-worth cases involving significant assets, as well as cases concerning owners of closely held businesses. I have had the pleasure of developing customized strategies for corporate executives, professional athletes, television personalities, and other high-profile celebrities.

More about me:
I graduated cum laude from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and was awarded my undergraduate degree cum laude from Caldwell University.
As much as possible, I give back to my professional and personal communities. I have lectured on a variety of legal issues including, custody, child support, and relocation law to fellow attorneys on behalf of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Institution for Continuing Legal Education. In October 2018, I was appointed by the Governor to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors for University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. University hospital is a level one trauma center and the state's only public acute care hospital.
My community involvement also includes volunteering as a Panelist for the Superior Court, Essex County, Early Settlement Panel and serving as a member of the Family Law Executive Committee for the New Jersey State Bar Association where I Co-Chair the DEI Committee. In addition to these committees, I am very proud to serve as a Fellow of the American Bar Association and be part of a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction, so I am among an inspiring group of leaders in my field.

In 2021 the Essex County Bar Association named me “Family Practitioner of the Year.” I also joined the Board of the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey, a non-profit organization focused on building synergies between New Jersey’s independent universities and advocating on behalf of students. I am very proud to be on the Advisory Board for my alma mater, Caldwell University.

Excellent lawyer for extremely tough cases.

Top Professional It was a blessing to have Tanya and her team in my case. I always feel like it was one of the ways, God helped me. I had “extremely difficult” case and the reason I put it in quotation is because that’s how judge phrased it. It was “the most difficult case” in judges entire career... (this judge been in the career for very long and she was very knowledgeable and professional). My case involved every aspect and venues of family law and I am not even exaggerating it. One example, the other party even retained second custody expert and brought numerous witnesses to testify against me. And when I say witnesses, I mean pretty serious qualified professionals! Well, remember, I have Tanya on my case. Tanya smashed them and their testimonies within moments at the court room and the other party had no choice but settle. The other party and the attorney were not weak opponents at all, but very determined and knowledgeable fighters. However, results showed that, Tanya is well above, and goes above and beyond when it comes to protecting her clients. Her and her team respond very timely, she makes time for you and explains everything thoroughly. She is very caring person and very strong expert! All you need to do is to tell her about your case and trust her! You will never go wrong! Not only she is an expert in her field, but she is knowledgeable about variety of other factors. I’m very happy with the outcomes of my case, which is what I was always wanted. It’s working great for me and my family! I know what it means when your case involves child/ren's. Below expectations

I hesitated to write this review for a while, the bitter memories never went away, and I decided to post it to tell the truth about my real experience with Tanya Freeman. I filed for divorce, but I did not want to lose. I just wanted half and walk away in peace. Unfortunately, that was not the case. ...My ex-husband received everything he requested including spousal support prior to divorce and then alimony from me, a woman who made just an average salary and raised two children on her own. I was only awarded a minimum allowance of child support. Tanya Freeman never fought for me. Her explanation was that I was the one working full time and my ex was not and that is how it works. During this process it was about logging additional attorney fees, of which I could not afford any longer. I was drained and wanted this to be over asap. Additionally, Tanya did not even show up for the last appearance at court to represent me. She sent her colleague, supposedly she was sick and out of the office. After long hours of battling at the court and giving up on even more in order to end this nightmare I finally got the divorce decree. Unfortunately, it did not end there, there was a typo in date of marriage on the document that had to be corrected. It must have been the template that Ms. Freeman used that had someone else’s information and was not verified prior to submitting to judge, this was unacceptable. Upon calling her office to have the corrections made immediately to my surprise, Tanya was there, and not out due to sickness as I was told earlier to excuse her absence at the court on that final day. Please draw your own conclusion based on what you read here and think twice before you hire this attorney. As they say: the biggest accident could be your choice of attorney…

Best decision ever to retain Tanya Freeman

From our initial consultation throughout our 2 1/2 year legal battle, Tanya was compassionate, thorough, reliable and incredibly diligent. She was always thinking ten steps ahead regarding best approaches to everything. Tanya answered every question we had with honesty and sincerity. She never tried ...to spend our money frivolously and told us if she felt things were necessary to do or not. From day 1, Tanya was totally upfront about what challenges may lay ahead and was bang on with everything. She was incredibly reassuring to have next to me in court and she had the ability to calm my nerves, yet was right on top of everything. Her reputation amongst her colleagues and the legal community is outstanding. Over this long legal battle, we also got to know Tanya's team very well and saw how they all work together. Grateful I found her
