A really complicated situation.. with an awesome outcome.
My situation was complicated. Before coming to Emeka, I spoke to 10 lawyers, met with 3 in person. They either did not want to take my case, wanted to charge an insane amount of money like 25 grand, and did not feel confident about a positive outcome due to the fact that I was previously arrested the year before, and was on a conditional discharge with a municipal court case. The conditional discharge agreement was I don’t get arrested in a year that charge would be dropped. Well at month ten, I found myself in a little jam and was seriously feeling hopeless. I was now dealing with a Superior Court case and facing felony charges for Controlled Dangerous Substance in the car with $100 worth of benzodiazepines.
I have three degrees, two of which are master’s and work in a field with a very vulnerable population, Because of the field, my job does routine background checks and DMV Emeka was the FIRST and ONLY lawyer that felt confident about a positive outcome.
He had me submit a brief personal statement, my resume, college transcripts, a letter from a doctor, coworker, etc. Within a week, he called me to tell me that Monmouth County hand selected me as their first chosen arrest to be a part of their (Opiate Diversion Program). A program that selects 40 arrests in Monmouth county, where if you attend a therapeutic setting for six months, the charges get dropped. Not only did I he get me into the program, quite frankly, I did not meet all the requirements to be accepted. 1. only being arrested once, 2. fighting an opiate charge, and lastly, have a superior court case. The only requirement I met was the Superior court case.
I knew that given my situation it was in my best interest to seek someone who is well known in Monmouth county. With Emeka’s extensive experience working as a public defender for several years, early on in his career, he knows a lot of people, which is so important when hiring a lawyer. At some point, the state picked up on the fact that I violated my conditional discharge. Emeka represented me for that case as well. He was able to get both charges dropped, from both counties, during my time in ODP, Emeka was receiving updates that I was having trouble following rules and was at risk of being able to complete the program. If Emeka would have charged me hourly, it would have most certainly been easily 20 grand. The amount of times he answered my calls, after hours, weekends, holidays, I know I drove him nuts, but at one point I was unstable and I could tell that Emeka was genuinely concerned and spent an entire Saturday (legit the entire day) speaking to me, family members, people in my life, people from the program I was in. I highly recommend Emeka, and plan to hire him again when I need to face the boards for the field I am in. He actually cares about his clients, he doesn’t overcharge, he’s fair in pricing and he’s awesome, confident and is good at what he does.
