Rude, condescending, arrogant, narcissis, know it all abusive individual.
DON’T HIRE THIS ESTATE-PLANNING FIRM FOR ANYTHING: If you receive a call from Irwin Tubman’s office at 530 Route 18 in East Brunswick, New Jersey, hang up on him and read the reviews they are completely accurate.
Based on my experience, I would NEVER recommend Irwin Tubman's law firm. What I expe...cted to be a straightforward process became stressful and unpleasant during an already difficult time. At first, he seemed pleasant and called repeatedly to persuade me that he was the best choice for estate-planning services.
After my daughter passed away, I took on the responsibility of raising my grandchildren. My husband was scheduled for surgery the following week, so we urgently needed an advance health care directive, a new living will, and related documents. We also wanted an attorney our trustee could contact after our deaths.
Irwin said he had 45 years of experience and claimed that other firms would charge $10,000 for a trust, will, health care directive, and related documents. I later learned that firms typically charge between $2,500 and $4,500. He also said he customized every document rather than relying on templates.
My disabled husband had to climb two flights of stairs to reach Irwin’s office; he had never told us there was no elevator. We paid half of the substantial fee upfront. Irwin said he could prepare the documents right away, but later told us he planned to retire within a year. Had we known he intended to retire, we would not have hired him.
He asked me to call the next morning with any changes I wanted. After reviewing the paperwork, I found several errors. He blamed them on artificial intelligence, which I found difficult to believe. I suspect his staff may have improperly modified a template. He then refused to make the changes he had invited me to request. He repeatedly interrupted and insulted me, saying I knew nothing about estate law and should stop talking.
We felt we had no choice but to sign that afternoon because we needed the documents for my husband's surgery on Monday. Irwin’s comments throughout the process felt belittling and critical. He then asked for an additional $825 in filing fees, which I considered unreasonable, and refused to honor the original fee agreement. We had already paid upfront and knew he would not issue a refund, so we paid the remaining balance and the additional fee. We tried to stop payment on the final checks, but Irwin cashed them immediately, leaving us with no recourse.
He also did not obtain the federal identification number we understood he was required to secure for us.
Irwin said he would copy the paperwork and send it overnight for Saturday delivery. The originals never arrived. When I texted him, he called and asked what our problem was. He said we were incompetent and claimed UPS had delivered the package somewhere on my property. We knew it had not arrived. Despite several requests, he refused to provide the tracking information. I eventually found it in an email he had not mentioned.
The executed, notarized, and witnessed originals had been sent to the wrong address. Irwin blamed UPS and did not apologize. He told us, “GO GET IT.” Believe this guy! The homeowner initially refused to hand over the package, but gave it to me after I showed the delivery photo and pleaded with them.
My husband and I should not have been treated this way, particularly after losing our daughter and while preparing for his surgery. I encourage others to consider consulting another attorney. Research firms, read reviews, and seek recommendations from reliable sources. There are capable professionals who will treat you with respect and guide you through the process with compassion. Please take the time to find another law firm for anything, opposed to hiring Tubman.
