Mark Thiessen leaves nothing in the bullpen, he approaches every aspect of a case and tries to visualize angles that the defense may use. In addition to being extremely knowledgeable in the realm of DWI/DUI cases, he's extremely personable and doesn't throw around so much legal jargon that you're head is left spinning after a meeting. Being charged with a Felony Intox Assault with a deadly weapon (and looking at 10 years felony probation or 4 years in prison) was a terrifying experience. In 2012, I was charged with DUI. The arrest did not involve any material evidence of unsafe driving nor did it involve an accident. Unfortunately, the breathalyzer indicated a .09 alcohol content. I hired a reputable Houston attorney, but he gave me little hope of winning the case. After more than six months of resets and reminders that it was going to be a tough case to win, I did some research and hired Mark Thiessen. I am embarrassed to say that I got arrested for DUI (no accidents) on 2 occasions in the last 2 1/2 years. The first one was for .08 BAC and like an idiot, i submitted to the field sobriety test and breathalizer. At that time i engaged a very high profile DUI firm in Houston and they assigned the case to one of their associates, Mark Thiessen. My first instinct was to enter a guily plea due to the extra costs of going to trial. However, Mark convinced me to go forward to trial and the ultimately the case was dismissed just days before trial!!

Two years later i got pulled over again and refused the field tests. I was forced to give a blood test by court order and BAC was .10. Obviously i called Mark Thiessen again and now he has his own firm. Once again I was hesitant to go trial due to the extra costs involved and once again Mark convinced me to to go to trial. The day of trial Mark got the case dismissed again!!! I wont go into the details, but what he did was both genius and gutsy. I also have a feeling that the DA's office both loves Mark and fears going to trial against him, given his record of trial experience and continuing education.

So for me, Mark Thiessen is "two for two". Perfect batting average and obviolusly i would highly recommend his firm to anyone. I would also advise anyone to follow his advice if and when it is to go to trial. If i would have plead guilty to both of those charges, i would like lbe in jail right now.

Our daughter was arrested for felony DWI with child, and all she had done was stop to render aid to a drunken driver who had overturned her car. When the ambulance had taken the driver of the overturned car to the hospital, the attending officer arrested our daughter on suspension of driving drunk herself ( which she wasn't). Mr Thiessen was successful in getting a no bill from the Grand Jury. Had this not have happened my daughter could have been sentenced to three years in the correctional facility and her life would have been ruined. We will be eternally grateful to Mr Thiessen for his knowledge and ability to correct this horrific error.

Often times we hear about how Micheal Jordan or Tom Brady just have/had that "IT" factor. In the sporting world the "IT" factor will win you games and championships. In the work world the "IT" factor will earn you praise, money, pretty girls/or guys if that’s your preference and MONEY..... When it comes to the LAW and the "IT" factor; it can mean your freedom or justice. We often take our freedoms for granted and find ourselves on the other side of the law. In that case we have to rely on a lawyer to defend our rights when we or someone else violates our freedoms. In my case, my freedom was violated when an intoxicated group of people decided to gang up on me at a house party in what I would consider a nice part of Houston. Never would I have thought that I would have to defend my freedom and safety in a situation that didn't seem threatening. Unfortunately when people drink too much and over indulge themselves in liquid courage anything is possible. Being attacked from behind with verbal and physical assault, I had to defend myself and make split second decisions. So I ended up having to punch my attacker several times while being attacked by his group of friends. People got hurt, by the grace of GOD I was able to escape the carnage to live another day. Without knowing who attacked me or anyone else at the party other than the few people I came with. I had no idea who to mention when I called the cops to file a police report. Six month after the altercation I was issued a warrant for my arrest from the person who attcked me. Now most people would wonder how that is possible. I sure did!. I wondered how I could be attacked and assaulted by several people just to be the one the cops or the law came after. The person who I defended myself against investigated me on facebook and was able to file charges against me. Great idea when you think about it right? Well I didn't have a clue who anyone was and when I tried to find out no one seemed to know who this group of people were....... So who do you call in this situation??? Someone you trust? Someone who will fight for your rights? Someone who understands the results of the loss of Freedom and what it can do to your family? Someone who will go up against all the odds and take on a challenge that most lawyers wouldn't even touch? Someone who you can count on in the clutch? That’s who I called and wouldn't have had it any other way. My case took about 2 years to finally resolve. Mark's advice was spot on and every step he took was a step in the right direction. This was the first time I've ever been in trouble with the law (DWI). A friend recommended Mr. Thiessen to me so I gave him a call to discuss my case. I was introduced to Attorney Mark Thiessen by two very trustworthy loyal people that I know. Upon my initial meeting with him I was extremely upset. As I explained my case he listened carefully and made me feel comforted. The odds were stacked up against me. I was pulled over for no headlights. There were three videos, sobriety tests were failed, and there was blood work. In the videos my headlights were on not off, my sobriety tests were not on any of them, and I looked fine. I am just getting home after a 4 month dragged out 2cd DWI case that has been dismissed. My decision to choose Mark Thiessen has obviously paid off but if you are reading this you will most likely be either going through your case, determining a possible lawyer, or wondering how the hell is he so good.
I have learned more then I like about Judicial process as I come from a business background. I am am educated, 29 years old, working professional, about to apply for MBA programs next year. I consider myself average in relation to most 29 years old - I am not making millions and really just in the middle class. However, my decision to choose Mark was more about protecting my reputation, increasing my odds in court, and not having to go through the same pains I did when I was convicted 7 years ago of my first DWI in college. My 1st DWI tape was so bad I couldn't get my DWI dismissed, and being charged for a second you know kind of what to do after a stop which helped my case. This time I cooperated with the police officer, but did not take a breath or blood which is important. The fact that I had a skull fracture last year and told the police officer that on tape yet he only did the HGN and did not do the WAT or one legged stand was important.
But, more importantly was my representation in noticing my strengths of my case, having the experience, reputation, to get dismissal. Mark won my ALR even though a police officer showed up which happens really rarely. Through a lot of readings online I read somewhere that 93% of the time a cop shows up to the ALR you lose. Because they only need to prove they followed procedure. Other lawyers say its a coin toss or 65% loss if they show up. The fact of the matter it is never good when they show up to ALR unless you can lock in there testimony. That can win your criminal case, but the fact that he locked in the cops testimony, won my ALR, and got my case dismissed is impressive. It isn't by luck, or chance, Mark knows the law, knows when the DA has a weak case, and has a reputation of winning HARD cases. So, if your case is in a grey area with Mark on your side the DA is much more likely to dismissed when faced against a good DWI lawyer. I got a lucky break, but my decision to choose Mark is going to pay dividends for years to come.
The first time the cop didn't show to my ALR and Mark tried to get it thrown out but couldn't. The second time he showed up but Mark questioned him on the stop and the cop testified I swerved out of my lane. However, in the police report and the tape said I failed to signal lane change.
Mark locked his testimony down which was really 1 of the 2 things left the DA had. 1 being me slurring all over tape and bad driving at 4:30AM on a Sunday morning, and lastly the cop testimony. During the ALR the Administrative Judge agreed that there was insufficient evidence to detain me to arrest me just for HGN. The police officer pulled me over, I cooperated, did HGN, and then he arrested me. He did not offer me breath, blood, or to do any other tests. When I was detained he wanted me to do the walk the line test but after realizing if I wouldn't be let go if I'd passed I decided not to take any tests.
So, the DA essentially had tape with me slurring, a cop testimony. Mark had medical records (skull fracture, medications (even though they didn't play a part), and a sleep study where I was prescribed a CPAP machine. This all sounds ridiculous and is absolutely ridiculous that the charges of 2cd DWI are so steep so being pulled over I already knew I had to submit everything I could find to Mark.
I also paid him upfront so while he was in court he never had to worry about not getting paid.
By not losing the ALR, I avoided having restricted driving hours for 2 years. By winning my criminal case I avoided $1,500 surcharge for 3 years, 1-2K in court fines, $2,700 in probation, interlock, DWI, SR-22, and increased ins. cost the next yea

Was pulled over for running a red light and had a few beers with dinner/golf and the cop asked me to get out. That is never a cool feeling, but I felt I was fine and under the limit easily. The cop did the "normal" stuff when smelling alcohol and took me to jail when I was basically fine, but legally over the limit. The officer told me that he thought I was fine, and that it was just a formality (taking me to jail). He even told me he would personally take me back to my truck if I blew under. So that gave me a reason to blow, otherwise I would not have blown.... Mark saw this and grilled him on the stand in my ALR hearing. I lost my ALR hearing, but I just lost my DL for three months. But as a result of the cop's testimony Mr. Thiessen was able to get the case dismissed.

I interviewed one other lawyer and he just seemed like he wanted to just go ahead and accept the DIVERT program. Mark said that was going to be there if he couldn't win it. I was happy with my choice to pick a lawyer that was willing to fight my case, and not just take my money and tell me the DIVERT program was the best I could do.

Excellent attorney and a man too. Was easy to get a hold to and gave me his personal cell number and was able to contact him on the weekend if I had any questions. Gave his card to all my friends that drink.

I was accused by my own wife. It was a painful incident happened in my life. She said to the police that I was threatening to kill her and beaten her. She did this to be because she was looking for lot of money from me and I couldn’t give her the money. She was so bad that she even made proofs with the doctors. There was witness from Doctors and nurses and even some voice recordings. She allowed the doctors and nurses even to record our loud conversions. There were lot of accuses on me and the case was very strong. But in front of Mark nothing can stand.

I had just two resets and the time. The first one was just a day adjustment and the next one was just 2 weeks. On the second reset, I went to the court and heard shocking news. My wife again called the court and said that I was threatening her again. This created huge complications. Because of this they gave the reset after 4 months. I am a frequent traveler to other countries and I was worried. On the very same day Mark comforted me with his words. He said ‘just keep quiet and wait for 10 days, I will get this dismissed’. I really believed him because he says and does what will really happen. It was just seven days later I heard from Mark that he has my dismissal in hand and no convictions. It was a big surprise that he did it in a lightning speed. With all my heart I thank you Mark.

You cannot compare anybody with Mr.Mark. The way he handled the case was really great. He knows the tricks, tact tics and he is really great in his profession. I suggest when you are in a real problem you definitely need Mark with you.

I had a difficult DWI case against me that could have potentially turned into a felony case. I am in my late forties and was in a bit of legal trouble for the first time in my life. It is a very stressful time for somebody who is going thru this first time. First the arrest then going through the booking process and finally spending 8-9 hours waiting to be released. Once I got out I started my research on what to do to minimize the impact. My charge was failure to ID to a police officer (a class B misdemeanor - lets just say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and when an officer showed up i panicked and did not want to give my ID in front of people who were being questioned for possession of drugs.

Anyway i got a few references of lawyers and started going and meeting the lawyers and also doing internet research on them as well as on my pending charge.

Since this was my first offense - i was hopeful that I would qualify for either pretrial intervention program or deferred adjudication with a very slim outside chance of outright dismissal.

All the lawyers I met were setting me up for the first two outcomes mentioned above and nobody wanted to entertain the possibility of outright dismissal. When I met Mark I was instantly impressed. He heard my account of the event, got very candid account of the events out of me by making me feel comfortable. He then gave a very detailed idea of what the approach and strategy he was going to employ. He also let me know that there were a few unknowns (the offense report being one) based on which he will tweak his strategy on game day. I was sold and signed up.
On the court day – As per strategy Mark came is very late when all other dockets were done. Being a Friday Mark likes to dress in funky clothes which he calls his fun day clothes. Everybody in the court know this and looks forward to him making an appearance. Having been through a lot of trials most of which he ends up winning he knows all the DA and court staff. He had the best presence of all the lawyer that I saw in the court ( and I had an opportunity to see them all since Mark came at the end). He is also well respected in the court.
We went over the offense report and Mark immediately decided that he was going to go for an outright dismissal. I was a still not sure if this will work but he went in to talk to the ADA and then DA and convinced them that it was not worth their time to fight this one. I believe that part of this comes from the fact that everybody know Mark’s reputation for being a tough aggressive lawyer not afraid to go to trial for his clients. I was ecstatic at the outcome whereby not only was the charge dismissed but also I would not have to go through probation for a year or more and then having to wait to get my record sealed or expunged. I am now eligible for immediate filing for expungement proceedings which will remove all traces of my arrest and my court date.

I had just moved to Houston, was driving downtown, and accidentally turned the wrong way down a one way street. Subsequently, I was pulled over asked to take a breathalyzer test. As like with most, I've been pulled over for speeding, etc., but nothing as serious as like being arrested for DWI, especially when I wasn’t even driving when it happened! I was pulled over on my way home on January 23, 2011 for running a red light. I had a few drinks earlier that night which I admitted to. I was then arrested and charged with a DWI. At the station I was given a field sobriety test that was videotaped. Also I was given a breath test using the intoxilyzer 5000. I blew a .169 and .172 (that’s over twice the legal limit).

Here it is December 6, 2011 and its my turn to write a review for Mr. Thiessen. I just finished my trial today. It was a long drawn out fight. The DA wouldn't throughout the case even though Mr.Thiessen showed them every hole in their case. The DA and the judge were completely against us, but Mark Thiessen only got more pissed off. Every witness that came to the stand was ripped apart by Mr. Thiessen. Not one moment went by that I saw him sweat. Then the moment came when he was about to tear their case apart. The DA ran to the judge with his tail between his legs and asked for a dismissal. They saw ahead of time Mr. Thiessen’s plan to shred their case and backed down. If it wasn’t for Mr.Thiessen's motivation and dedication to my case, I would have never won this case.

I got pulled over while leaving a bar on Washington Ave, by a DWI Task Force Cop that followed me 8 blocks from the bar until pulling me over. This was my first time ever getting into trouble and I had a clean record without even a speeding ticket. He never turned on his lights so the cameras never began recording. July of 2011, After drinking at a bar in Washington avenue in Houston, I went to jail for drinking and driving. I called and talked to my friends about who I should hire as my attorney. My case created lots of work for Mark. my girlfriend accused me of choking her. The local pd chose to listen to her, and filed a temporary restraining order on me. I gave Mark my story, he outlined a plan of attack-- and I immediately went out and violated the TRO- against his advice !! When bad luck struck, I already knew the lawfirm I would contact: T & M was successful in dismissing three friends' DWIs (3 for 3) so their reputation preceded them.

Lawyers monitor and evaluate the progress of their fellow law firms and peers vigilantly. Yet still, some of the details of progression of the individual lawyer can be easily overlooked under the shadow of the "Firm name" they work for.

What I found out when Mark Thiessen became counsel for my case was that right under my nose he had become amongst the elite lawyers in criminal defense; especially handling DWI claims.

When you face criminal charges, it is an understatement to say you want a lawyer that is supremely confident and utterly fearless... If they fear trial then no DA will ever fear them.

While some have settled with suspended licenses he petitioned for restrictive measures that would still allow me to drive freely if I didn't abuse the privilege.

Once all the evidence had come in and it was time for the DA to make a decision as to whether to take my case to trial or dismiss it, in hindsight I will admit that the decision was a borderline-close call that could have gone either way for the DA.

As a lawyer I am keenly aware of the reasons they decided to dismiss the charges against me.

(1) Thiessen not only is willing to but enjoys taking cases to trial.
If you hire a criminal attorney, you better hire one that likes "the fight". DAs like the fight and will bully on any lawyer that is shy to match that willingness.

(2) When Thiessen does fight, he usually wins.
When the DAs see any reasonable doubt in the case, they know which lawyers will take that and run with it. The DAs see enough cases to know how it will be likely to end up given the case and the lawyer. Most DAs in this county have been on the losing end of a trial against him. DAs know that if it is a "borderline" case, odds are he will find a way to win it come trial.

(3) Thiessen shows respect and courtesy to his adversary
No matter how good a criminal lawyer may be if he does not show the DAs and the court respect then they will not give any client a break... They will keep fighting you because they like the fight and they hate your lawyer. Thiessen gave them reasonable and sensible reasons why their case had weaknesses and because he has maintainted a rapport of respect and honesty with them, they listened.

--- Anyone who will ever ask me "I have a DWI charge, who should I call?" so long as Thiessen is practicing will get the same answer. There's too much on the line to fool yourself into thinking any attorney will do the same job, or attorney X or Y could do just as well.

Getting a DWI was one of the worst experiences of my life . Finding a good attorney was very difficult . I had already paid and hired an attorney and I felt like he wasn't looking out for my best intersest and he gave me no hope . One never quite imagines getting pulled over after drinking and the consequences it brings until you're caught. And on top of that, one would never expect for it to happen twice. The fear is undescribable. The attorney I hired to handle my 1st offense did not fight for me in the slightest. After getting arrested for my first (and hopefully, last) DWI, I was worried about losing my license and of course how it would affect my job. However, I found Mark, and the worrying ceased. I was arrested for DWI. Mr. Thiessen did an excellent job representing me. He was very upfront and kept me informed. He answered all of my many questions. My case was dismissed after almost a year.

I was arrested for a DWI backing out of a friends driveway and taken to Jail for DWI a little over a year ago. This was actually my second offense, due to a slip up 4 years prior when I turned 21.
