When the government wants to deprive you of liberty, the best defense is assertive, aggressive, open minded and willing to think outside the box. In short, the best defense is a good offense.
My name is Shon Bogar, and I am a criminal defense attorney.
I am not an attorney who happens to defend people against charges. I am the guy born to stand between the government, with all its bureaucratic objectives, and the person accused of a crime.
I am a criminal defense attorney, and proud to say so.
See, there are many kinds of attorneys, but it seems that most attorneys think the government is right and that passing more laws is the way to get a better society. Perhaps that's why most congresspeople and senators are lawyers. I don't agree.
I believe in liberty - that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or the pursuit of property without due process of law.
I believe that a government devoted to enforcing a bunch of laws written by lawyers is likely to infringe and deprive us of what is naturally ours - liberty - in favor of enforcing a bureaucratic maze so dense it's impossible to follow without a law degree.
It's who I am, it's why I became an attorney, and it's why I say I am a defense attorney, not an attorney who happens to defend people.
As one prosecutor recently put it, "Mr. Bogar, other attorneys don't do things like you do." She was right. They don't, and I appreciate the unintended compliment.
A couple other points. My profile on AVVO will never be a 10.0. Criminal defense is a rough and tumble business where my job is to fight the government when the government thinks it is going to win. Frankly, any defense attorney with a 10.0 here on AVVO is probably toying with their numbers or hasn't represented very many folks charged with serious offenses. The first review I saw of me posted here was quite low. I'm keeping that review posted. That person is entitled to his opinion.
At the end of the day, when the government is lined up against you or your loved one, do you want a lawyer who has a 10.0 rating on a site that's nearly completely unverified? Or do you want a defense attorney willing to take the good with the bad and stand up for what's right, to stand up for your rights, and to stand between the government and their objective?

Really aggressive for his clients
Mr. Bogar was the attorney for the defendant charged with Assault 2. I was the victim who filed charges. At the trial his cross examination was very tough on me. His client was guilty but that did not stop him from using every tactic he could. Fortunately for me, the evidence was overwhelming and th...

"While I was a Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney attached to the Children's Justice Unit, I had the opportunity to engage in a trail and Shon was one of the opposing counsel in a child abuse matter. It was my experience that Shon was diligent, highly competent, and professional. Shon does not shy away from difficult matters and provides excellent service to his clients. For these reasons I endorse Shon Bogar."
