18 YRS EXPERIENCE IN CRIMINAL & MILITARY DEFENSE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, DUI, ADMIN LAW. I'VE GOT YOUR 6!

For over 15 years, I've been a criminal trial attorney, and I have nearly 20 years total legal experience.  I enjoy fighting for my clients - most of whom are facing the toughest challenge of their lives.

When I opened my private firm in 2011, I saw a need for civilian defense attorneys knowledgeable in military law -- someone to assess the consequences faced by servicemembers accused of crimes or misconduct, but who could also assist clients in military and civilian court.  Working with servicemembers has been a great fit for me with my background; I am the daughter of a career Navy NCO, and I married an Army Officer. Just about every generation of my family has sent at least one family member off to war. They fight for us: now I get to fight for them.

While I will always devote a significant portion of my practice to military cases, I also enjoy work with clients from all walks of life.  I listen to my clients and try to understand each client's goals and values, so that we can work closely together to achieve the best outcome.  I pride myself on my legal advocacy in the courtroom and in my written work product. Furthermore, I have advanced training in negotiation and alternative dispute resolution. Often, I can get good results working with prosecutors, Commanders, and law enforcement. when that is appropriate or desirable. For those cases that are not able to be resolved, I work constantly to hone my trial skills, and I am proud of my reputation as a tough litigator.

I am blessed and honored to defend the Constitution for a living.  My clients appreciate that I am passionate about what I do and the fact that I fight hard for them in court, but also like that I'm respectful and down-to-earth. Although I credit my Duke and UW educational background for developing my legal reasoning and writing abilities, what makes me a successful attorney is my hardworking, positive attitude, and my passion for defending people who are facing their toughest legal challenges.  If you have any questions about my practice and how I can help you, please call or email me.  I offer a free consultation for cases in my practice area, so you can see if I am a good fit for you and your case.

Life saver
I would recommend Heather to anyone that needs someone who is determined and gritty. She really talks to the person you are and not just the paid client like some see. She listens and goes to work for not only you but your family that stands behind you. If it weren't for her and my military attorney I would not be able to see my girls grow up. I was facing some very serious false accusations and as i previously stated Heather listened to my wife and I and did her research to defend an innocent man. After all was said and done we got a Not Guilty on all charges and I will forever be grateful for her expertise and commitment. Signed, A very grateful husband and father

Thank you for this powerful review. It's a proud moment as a lawyer, to stand next to a client you know is wrongfully accused, and then to hear the announcement in Court: "To all Charges and Specifications, NOT GUILTY." I live for moments like that. Thank you again for trusting and hiring me for what I know was the worst ordeal of your life. I wish you and your family all the best.

Career Retained
Thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and professionalism while working on my case. This was by far one of the most difficult times of my life. You guided me through this difficult time with confidence, which resulted in a not guilty verdict on all accounts of Article 120. Thank you!
Response from Heather Straub April 28, 2019
This was a very satisfying outcome for me as well -- a full acquittal on all charges. You were a fantastic client, and I enjoyed working with you. I hope you and your family have a very bright future.

Amazing Lawyer
Went through a long grueling situation and Heather took my case and not only did she win my civil case but also when the Brigade commander decided to try and fry me we took it to a board of separation and slam dunked it. Heather exceeded my expectations and saved my life. She is the best lawyer around I highly recommend her to anyone. Thank you so much Heather you are the best.

Professional, Knowledgeable, Easy to Work With
Heather was very professional, and made my first court case a very easy process. She gathered pertinent information for the arraignment, kept me updated on the constantly changing court schedule, and represented me well. I would recommend her to all my contacts. Heather is one of the best people I've had the pleasure of working with.

Will recommend to others
I came to Ms. Straub with a unique issue, seeing as I could only find lawyers outside of Washington that dealt with Security Clearance adjudications. I sought consultation with Ms. Straub since she dealt with DOD, DUI and civilian investigations, three things that applied to my case. After talking to Ms. Straub in regards to a Letter of Intent that I received, she agreed to a consultation. Coming prepared to move forward if she was as well after the consultation, I had brought Ms. Straub everything that I could in regards to my case, including character references and even a response I had begun to write to the Letter of Intent at hand on my own before seeking legal help. Once hiring Ms. Straub, we were working within a short time frame, a few weeks, while waiting on a records request at the same time. Even though the records request did not arrive in time for review prior to the Refute submittal date. Ms. Straub’s knowledge in her field provided me with a response to submit that left me speechless and formatted in such a way that I never could have accomplished on my own in a timely and concise manner.

Falsely Accused Child Heather was amazing!!!
Heather was amazing from start to finish! She stood up for what was right when lies were flying from every angle. She calmed my 13 now 14 year old down the whole way and kept him informed. She was a cheerleader for me even when i lost myself a few times. She is fully aware of the stress it puts on family and she helps as best as she can. She will get the right people to work on your case! If you or a loved one is ever falsely accused of a crime she is the attorney for you. It is a process and a long one at that but she did what she needed to and my son is now able to adjust to his new normal since this started in dec of 2018 Best Christmas present ever was hearing CASE DISMISSED!

It was my honor to work hard for your son and your family. When you hired me, you paid me the ultimate compliment: trusting me to protect your own son's freedom. I take that very seriously. I am so pleased that we got such a great result in this case.

WONDERFUL, CARING ATTORNEY
I hired Heather 18 months ago for assistance with military charges that ultimately resulted in me spending 12 months in prison - I was just recently released. While a conviction and 12 months may sound bad, I expected a 4 to 5 year sentence. I was panicked when I found myself initially served with charges. Heather was recommended to me, I contacted her, and found her to be remarkable. She was responsive to my questions and concerns, honest and forthright, and walked me thru the entire process. She made me feel like part of the team, kept me informed, and fought hard to minimize my sentence, by ensuring both the hearing officer at the Article 32 hearing and the military judge at the Court Martial heard my concerns and mitigating circumstances, acknowledged them, and took them in to account with my final sentencing. I cannot imagine having had anyone else defend me, and am eternally grateful to her for her hard work fighting for me. Not only does she clearly know civilian law (we had to address a couple side issues in civilian court which were concluded in my favor), she also is very competent in a military court room. I would very strongly recommend her to anyone requiring a criminal defense attorney, especially if it involves the military!

Review of Heather Straub
Heather is a force to be reckoned with but also extraordinarily thoughtful and considerate. She knew I was going through a very difficult time and stressed the importance of self care. She checked on me numerous times. She fought the battle Until it was won, the whole time Working efficiently and writing and responding with eloquent, educated responses and seeking truth. She’s passionate, has excellent work ethic and has a well informed background in military law. She’s quick to reach out for assistance with expertise outside her scope and approaches everything with 100% of herself. She is quick to respond, quick to provide relevant and experienced advice.

Thank you! In my experience, the best defense is a team approach, and having a healthy client --physically, mentally, and emotionally-- is crucial to achieve the best possible outcome. Thank you for the compliment to my writing. Well-written work product may not be flashy like a big public trial win, but it's important to me. I see the difference it makes in a client's case, and it feels great to be appreciated. I hope you continue to have a wonderful career and keep being the caring person you are.

I had an issue with the reserves, and hired Ms. Straub to get some information that I was not able to find doing my own research. She was very quick to respond to me, and provided me the information I requested within only a couple days. I had anticipated this taking far longer. She is very aggressive and energetic when helping her clients.

Strong advice and a calming presence
I was involved in a work place related accusation that threatened to cause great harm to my career.  Ms. Straub was able to calmly and clearly explain the entire situation to me and present me with the right course of action.  It was a challenging time but having such strong and dependable advice made it much easier to handle.  It is also important to note that Ms. Straub's advice led to a favorable outcome.  I would certainly recommend her to anyone for legal advice.

Almost lost my career without Heather!
As a career Soldier I had so much to lose when the most personally and professionally embarrassing event took place; I was arrested for reckless driving and DUI. With over 16 years in the uniform and serving our country, I could truly see no positive outcomes for a pending Board of Inquiry not only in the military, but in a career beyond the military. With the civilian court concluded and the military board looming, I knew this was essentially the fight not only for my well being and future, but my family’s as well. If anyone is reading this and finds themselves in a similar situation, and you care about what you have done and will continue to do, look no further than to Heather’s help. If you hire her, and I recommend you do, you'll have someone on your side with a non-JAG perspective. Someone with an in-depth knowledge of the military trial system and knows military regulation. Someone with the tenacity to fight for your ‘Retain’, combined with a complete understanding of what is at stake, and the needed compassion to prove to the board that you are worthwhile and that you still have a place in the uniform. Otherwise, there are options either at no-cost to you or other representation available…but why when you can have the best on your side?? Without a doubt, Heather helped me earn my 'Retain', and because of her, I will be able to continue on and retire. It was because of similar reviews on Heather's past successes that I consulted her and instantly knew I needed her expertise. It wasn't a difficult decision to hire her to represent me, and looking back, it was the smartest decision I made for the dumbest mistake in my life.

Amazing person and amazing attorney!
Heather was hired as my attorney for a very difficult assault case. She was great at doing research to help my case as well as help me understand what could happen. In the end the case was dismissed. I never felt like she wasn't on my side and that was very important for me. I would absolutely recommend her to any friends or family that was in need of an attorney as well as rehire if I ever needed one again.

The hardest test of my life
I was at a low point in my life when I met Heather, and she gave me Hope! She was willing to fight for me, and she did. I will always be thankful for her expertise and professionalism. Heather was not the first attorney I talked to, and I was discouraged. She showed me enthusiasm. She believed me, and I left her office believing in myself again. She listened to me in a very non-judgmental way. She was sharp and knowledgeable. She planned a legal strategy and included me in the planning. She was also able to change that strategy as the case brought to light new information and new opportunity. She was able to see the dynamic of the key people involved. I appreciated the fact that she kept me in the conversation loop between her, the prosecutors and the judge. I appreciated her positive attitude, and her honest assessment. She tirelessly worked for me until she found the key information that brought the truth to light. Heather is an amazing Attorney. She deserves a great review, and I hope this conveys my respect and admiration for a job well done.

An Absolute Pleasure to be Represented by Heather
I was represented by Heather for about 9 months. Knowing Heather was in my corner put me at ease during what would should have been a high stress situation. I was impressed with her professionalism, experience, and persistence to beat the prosecution team. Like others have commented, she was not judgmental at all. Furthermore, she was upfront and honest about the potential outcomes of my situation. She is also very meticulous and took note of each and every mistake the prosecution team made. Her hard work led to the prosecution team dismissing all charges against me and taking the easy way out (GOMOR). I can now continue to live the rest of my life in peace!

Solid lawyer! She’s the first person I would call and would recommend her to anyone!
I had an extremely comprehensive uphill battle and faced involuntary separation. Several other attorney’s (including JAG) told me I had no chance of succeeding. With over 15 years of service and my career, retirement, and reputation on the line; I contacted Heather. I can’t even begin to explain how much better I felt after just our first meeting. She is very knowledgeable, personable, and most importantly…she will represent you! I ultimately retired from the service with all benefits intact. I will always have her contact info on hand.

Thank you so much for this review, and I was very pleased at the outcome. I could not believe how unfairly you had been treated, particularly given who you are and all that you did for your Country and the Army, and I knew *something* had to be done. Getting a memo where we got someone to admit (not in so many words) that "a mistake had been made" --Priceless. Please let me know if I you ever need my help in the future.
