Background
Before devoting his professional efforts primarily to estate planning and related matters, Mr. Schneider spent over fifteen years working on Wall Street for major law firms and investment banks. Following law school, he practiced general civil law in New York City for five years, specializing in business transactions, financings and corporate matters. He also represented major investment banking firms in mortgage trading and real estate-related matters. Among his clients were international shipping companies, commercial and investment banks and institutional lenders, including General Electric Capital Corporation, Salomon Brothers and Merrill Lynch.Â
Professional Experience
For the next ten years, Mr. Schneider served as Senior Vice President at the investment-banking firm of Kidder Peabody, where he managed outside legal counsel for a variety of large financial transactions between major institutions. He played a central role in the creation of Kidder Peabody’s mortgage trading subsidiary, handling transactions with insurance companies, pension funds and government agencies.  Â
In 1996, Mr. Schneider established a residence in Portland, Oregon and shortly thereafter began a law practice serving clients from the greater Portland/Vancouver community. His motivations for moving to the Pacific Northwest were several:Â the natural scenic beauty of the landscape, the clean air and streets, the healthy, diversified economy and the overall high quality of life.Â
Professional Affiliations
Mr. Schneider is a member of the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is admitted to practice in the states of Oregon, Washington and New York.Â
Mr. Schneider is the co-author of A Will is Not Enough in Oregon, a comprehensive resource guide for residents of Oregon to maximizing the control and protection of their personal assets through effective estate planning.Â
Mr. Schneider is a frequent presenter on the topic of estate planning and has been invited to speak to many large corporations, small businesses and local community organizations.  Â
Education
An honors graduate of Indiana University, Mr. Schneider received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1981.
While in law school, Mr. Schneider received the prestigious American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Commercial Law.Â
Personal Profile
One of Mr. Schneider’s main motivations in devoting his practice to estate planning has been his desire to have a positive impact on the lives of real people, rather than simply furthering the impersonal workings of large institutions. He also directly experienced the importance of estate planning when his father passed away. Mr. Schneider is committed to helping the many individuals and families who place their trust in his ability, experience and integrity in securing the future and easing the burden on their loved ones.
