I’m very grateful for the council I received from Chance Oberstein, who represented me through multiple phases of post-sentencing and registration relief arising from a sex offense case from more than a decade ago. Chance Oberstein recently represented my brother and reduced his felony conviction to a misdemeanor reducing the length of time on the sex offender's registry from a life time to 10 years. I have been living abroad legally for years and to my surprise when I went to renew my US passport, I was told there was a federal warrant for my arrest due to my "failure" to register. I thought I had taken all the proper steps to leave the registry when I left the US and was never told I had to ta...ke additional steps before leaving. However I still couldn't sleep knowing I technically may have been in the wrong in the government's eyes.
