William Reid Cumming

Bill is a native of Southern California. In 1994, he graduated with honors from the University of California Los Angles with a double major in economics and political science. After graduation, he traveled to Japan to teach English and then attended Loyola Law School and graduated in 1998 towards the top of his class. While at law school, he participated in the moot court competition and was involved in several law school organizations.

Prior to forming Cumming & Associates, Bill was a partner at Lewis, Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, which is one of California’s largest law firms. While at the firm, his practice focused on civil litigation with an emphasis in business and commercial litigation, real estate, construction and intellectual property.  He has tried to conclusion both bench and jury trials and has also successfully resolved numerous claims by way of arbitration and mediation.  Bill is also an experienced bankruptcy attorney and his practice focuses on helping individuals and companies with Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies.

Bill also works with several small to mid-size companies and handles their corporate transactional work. He has the expertise to advise his clients in matters relating to the formation and dissolution of business entities, purchase or sale of on-going businesses, drafting and negotiating general business agreements, corporate governance, joint ventures, commercial leases, real estate matters, employment and consulting agreements, licensing agreements and other business law matters.

He has built a solid reputation as a skilled trial attorney with a winning record and as a knowledgeable expert in business-related transactions. Bill has been recognized on multiple occasions as  a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine, an honor reserved for the top 2.5% of lawyers in Southern California under the age of 40.

Bill enjoys spending time with his wife Julie and their three young children. His interests include playing the guitar, golfing, mountain bike riding, surfing and skiing. Bill is an instrument rated private pilot and likes to run with his Border Collie, Bella.
