Biography
Matthew A. Breddan's practice areas include divorce, establishing parental rights (parentage), child custody and visitation, child support, domestic violence restraining orders, and post-judgment matters, property issues and more. He is a tireless advocate for his client's rights and best interests. Matthew's goal is to achieve the best possible results for his clients and throughout the process, assuring that children are not used as "pawns" or bargaining chips to accomplish a goal or agenda of either party. As an experienced litigator, Mr. Breddan regularly appears in courtrooms throughout Los Angeles, Ventura, and beyond. Matthew understands how stressful family law matters can be. Therefore, he is committed to providing straightforward advice and guidance, based on his decades of experience and expertise to help clients understand what to expect from the courts, so they can make well-reasoned, and well-informed decisions. Matthew A. Breddan is dedicated to providing the highest level of family law representation.
In 2019, Mr. Breddan received the first of seven consecutive AV Preeminent® ratings, Martindale-Hubble’s highest peer rating, in recognition of his professional excellence and high ethical standards. He has also been selected to the Southern California Super Lawyers list twelve times, reflecting his high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
When not fighting for his clients, Mr. Breddan volunteers his time to the Los Angeles County Superior Courts and mediates in San Fernando, Van Nuys, and the Central Courthouses. He also holds leadership positions within the legal community. Mr. Breddan currently serves as Chair of the Family Law Executive Committee of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association and is the President of the Valley Community Legal Fund, the charitable arm of the SFVBA. He was appointed as a Trustee to the San Fernando Valley Bar Association in 2016. Following his first successful year as Trustee, Mr. Breddan was re-elected for a second term, and in 2020 he was elected Secretary. In 2022 Mr. Breddan was voted President of the SFVBA and in 2023 he was voted Vice President of the Valley Community Legal Fund. He looks forward to continue serving the greater San Fernando Valley and upholding essential services for the community.
In addition to his work in the legal community, Mr. Breddan is deeply committed to community service. Matthew is the current President and previous board member of Haven Hills, a domestic violence organization, and has participated in community outreach and educational presentations to support domestic violence survivors. In November 2023, Mr. Breddan was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Ventura County Council for the Boy Scouts of America (VCCBSA). He became a member of the Bumblebee Foundation's Executive Board, a non-profit organization supporting pediatric cancer families in March of 2024 and later that same year, was selected to be the Vice President of the Executive Board.
Mr. Breddan earned his Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Fullerton, in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. Mr. Breddan obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of La Verne College of Law and began practicing in 1994. He later opened his practice in the San Fernando Valley, focusing predominately on all aspects of family law. In December 2013, Mr. Breddan joined Reape-Rickett & Breddan as a trusted Shareholder and became head of the Calabasas office.
