Short Story: He's an excellent attorney and he knows what he's doing. My mom was in an unfortunate accident. The unfortunate part was someone died in the accident. She was charged with DUI/Gross Negligence Vehicular Manslaughter. This case could have ended with my mother dying in prison. I spoke... to a few people while we were deciding if we should bail her out immediately or wait for arraignment. One of which was Michael Kraut who personally answered the phone and gave me the advice of bailing her out immediately and the reasons why- he did not try to solicit us or anything- just told us exactly what to do. After bailing her out, I scheduled 6 different appts to meet with attorneys in a 48 hr period- all attorneys with high reviews on avvo or references. They were all very sympathetic and tried to convince me that they could take the case, but none had the years of DA experience that Michael Kraut had so that was our determining factor to go with him. It was also clear that he has good/personal relations with a lot of DAs and Judges. After signing the retainer with him, another high profiled criminal defense attorney finally called me back and I explained my position. He told me to call his friend who “knows everyone” since I hinted that I was not sure if we made the right decision by hiring him the day before. Although awkward, I was desperate to hear an opinion of Kraut so I did call him. And this attorney did know Kraut and said that he knows how to do a trial and he's at a different level from all the other attorneys. This case went on for almost two years and I went to almost all of the court appearances so I was able to personally watch Michael in action. He is a very nice person, but is also serious when he needs to be... he is truly serving Justice and after our experience with the unethical DAs and incompetent judges, you need to have a good criminal attorney... Now I understand why he moved from the prosecution to defense side. He's known as being a "fighter" and he really is. My mother's case ended with a misdemeanor and no jail time.
