Excellent work

Prior to finding Annette I had represented myself, worked with five other attorneys-- two in California and three in Phoenix-- and accrued some $30, 000 in attorneys' fees. Annette was by far the best, most knowledgeable attorney I worked with during my family court struggle. She gave me sound advice... and representation that ultimately lead to the resolution I had been praying for for years. I will be forever grateful to her for the peace of mind my teenage son and I now have thanks to her excellent guidance and work in and out of the courtroom. I highly recommend Annette Cox.

Fought CPS and Won

Annette Cox is a phenomenal attorney. She is smart, savvy, resourceful, strategic, experienced, analytical, organized, competent, and professional. Everything you would want in a lawyer. Annette was my defense attorney in a difficult case against CPS for almost a year. CPS made a bunch of exagger...ated, rash, base-less, inferring, and trumped-up allegations and went straight for severance of our parental rights. Not many attorneys even take CPS cases (also known as JD or JS cases), but not only did she take the case, but we won forcing the state to dismiss the case, thus getting full custody of our child back. It’s a fact of life that lawyers are expensive, and Annette’s fees are average with most other attorneys in Phoenix, but it is like the old saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” In my opinion Annette was worth every penny, because the result was getting my child back from the clutches of CPS, and what price can you put on that? Through our entire battle with CPS Annette always kept focused on the objective and stayed on point forcing CPS to take responsibility for their actions and inactions. In court she was aggressive, straight forward, concise, and represented me in the most accurate and professional way possible. Annette genuinely listened to our concerns without judgment, answered our questions effectively, and was good counsel. Annette has helped our family by fighting and winning against the State when initially our case looked grim. I’m not saying Annette is a miracle worker who will win every case, and if Annette can’t win your case, you can rest assured that you did everything possible you could to win, and at least that will give you some solace. No offense to court appointed attorneys, but it you want someone who actually cares and devotes time and energy into you, your case, and your family, and you care about the results of your case you should do everything in your power to solicit the services of Annette Cox.

Strikes me as bitter

I promised myself I would write this review for other parents. This is a reflection of my personal opinion and experience. I met with Annette Cox for a preliminary consultation in April of 2012...she struck me as very knowledgable, efficient, as well as compassionate, which is SO important in such ...a personal matter. I would have retained her, but the judge dismissed my ex's petition. Fast forward about 4 months, and I was becoming increasingly concerned over some matters that were happening while my child was spending time with the ex. I set up an appt with Ms. Cox again, hoping for some guidance and direction...I was VERY disappointed. I understand that she was in the middle of an office move, but the lack of any understanding, compassionate feelings, as well as her notes from our initial meeting amazed me. I had to spend 20 minutes reminding her of our initial meeting, as she did not have any notes with her. To me she was sorely unprepared for my meeting; what if it was a court case? To charge me over $200 when she was obviously umprepared was completely unprofessional. I would have rather received a phone call asking me to reschedule. To make matters worse, the overal impression I received from her was it didn't matter what I was concerned about, the courts will not do anything until there is a serious injury (broken bones, obvious signs of trauma). On top of that, she also relayed that if I were to go to court, the ex would get more time because the courts favor the fathers now. So in essence, "shut up and deal with it". It almost felt as if there was some feelings of bitterness around, but yet told me I would just come off as a "jealous ex". I cannot believe I had to pay someone to get this response...I felt like I was sitting in front of someone that almost defended my ex to me, rather than be concerned over ine incidents that I described. Think twice...everyone has good days and bad days, but when my daughter's well-being is at stake, I can't take that chance and neither should anyone else.

Jan: Thank you for your comment. You noted that I met with you a second time and that was why you were charged at my hourly rate. You chose not to retain after the first consult but wanted to continue talking about your case, which takes time away from my paying clients. I am only able to do additional consults at my hourly rate. I was not informed as to why or what you wanted to discuss again besides your custody matter, so your expectation to be prepared seems misplaced. In addition, you chose not to retain the second time and I agree with you, rightly so. I was not willing or able to do what you were seeking. As a result, you are not a client, familiar with my work ethic, conduct in court, advocacy skills, or standards for handling cases. I am selective about the cases I accept and the clients I work with. I also do not tell potential clients what they "want" to hear simply to get them to retain. Part of my job as an attorney is to advise a client/potential client of the risks associated with a decision they make and to assess the weaknesses in their cases. You did not want to hear that and clearly did not agree with my assessment, which means you and I would not be able to work well together. My clients trust my advice because I do not make promises I cannot keep. I give them the pro's and cons and then permit them to make the decisions. Those who have worked with me understand that I pride myself on sincerity and honesty, even if that means they might not like my message. That said, I believe a person should definitely select an attorney they feel comfortable with and not every attorney is a good fit. I wish you the best of luck in finding an attorney, who will be a good fit for you, your case and your family.

Cares for your best interest

although i did not retain ms cox, i did have a consult with her regarding the return of my children, i would have done whatever i could pay her fee, because i knew very quickly that she was very knoweledgeable about working with CPS, and how the process worked. But Ms Cox declined to accept me, but s...he equipped me with the knowledge i needed to have my kids returned from cps. She told me exactly what to say to get my court appointed attorney to get in a gear and do her job. She cared about my kids not about the money, and I am forever grateful to her for that. I tell everyone i know about her who is need of a family attorney!!!

my experience with annette cox

She is not only excellent professionally but on a personal level, compassionate, patient, very organized and truly motivated not primarily by money ( as some others in this profession are) but by her clients problems. She made the whole process so much more tolerable!
