Michael K McKell

Mike McKell is known as an attorney who brings passion to representing both his clients and constituents. He is the founding partner of Utah Legal Team, a current member of the Utah State Senate, and an avid runner.

In 2012, Mike was elected to represent House District 66 in the Utah House of Representatives. In 2020, Mike was elected to the Utah State Snate. Currently he serves as the Senate Chair for the Business and Econonim Development Appropriations Subcommittee as well as the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee. Mike has served on the Higher Education Strategic Planning Commission. Mike has enjoyed his work in Higher Education more than any other area during his time in the House because it gives him opportunities to help the youth of Utah to expand their educational goals. Mike believes that time and effort spent helping our youth achieve their dreams is one of the best ways of improving the community as a whole.

Mike has also served on the following committees: House Standing Judiciary Committee, Chair; Interim Judiciary Committee, Co-Chair; Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environmental Quality Appropriations Subcommittee, past Vice-Chair and past Co-Chair; and the House Special Investigative Committee (Investigation of John Swallow). Each of these positions has helped Mike gain the knowledge and experience he needs to lead and make a difference for those he serves.

In his professional life, Mike has been admitted to the Utah State Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Utah, the United State Supreme Court, and the Arizona State Bar.

Mike’s law practice is primarily focused on insurance law and representing those who have been injured through no fault of their own. His passion for helping those who have been wrongly injured is matched by his enthusiasm for working for his constituents as a member of the Utah House of Representatives. Mike is a strong advocate for the underrepresented, in court and in the legislature.

Mike has been recognized as one of Utah’s Legal Elite and as a Mountain States Super Lawyer Rising Star. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell and has a perfect 10.0 AVVO rating. Mike participates in the Utah Association for Justice as well as the American Inn of Court.

Mike is a proud son of Ferron, Utah. Though many may not know where Ferron is located on a map, don’t be embarrassed to ask. Mike will tell anyone it is a wonderful community where people care about each other and work hard. Mike’s father was a dentist and a hobby farmer, which provided many life lessons of hard work to Mike that continued to help him to this day.

He and his wife, Brandi, are parents of four children. Mike loves hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, but his latest interest is ultra-distance running. Mike qualified for the Boston Marathon and has a goal to run all six world major marathons and not break any additional bones in the process. Anyone who knows Mike has learned that he works relentlessly to achieve his goals and represent his constituents. If Mike possessed a superpower, it would be his love for working hard for his clients and his community.
