Practice areas
  1. Employment and labor
    20%
I solely represent employees against their current and former employers. My services to you are designed to meet your specific goals and needs. I am available to provide private counseling to you without ever informing your employer that you are seeking legal assistance, represent you in an appeal for unemployment benefits, review and/or negotiate employment contracts, fight for you in Court, or anything in between that makes sense for your situation.

    15 years

  2. Discrimination
    15%
Even though everyone knows that discrimination is illegal, it still happens. If you have been disciplined or fired, or if you are being treated differently at work because of your gender, sex, sexual identity, age, race, national origin, color, religion, disability, genetic information, parental responsibilities or pregnancy, you may be entitled to damages. There are time limits for you to take action, so call us right away to give yourself the best options.

  3. Sexual harassment
    15%
Sexual harassment in the workplace can be very difficult to talk about, and often the situation gets more complicated as time passes. You don't have to keep living with the stress and you don't have to face this alone: call us for help.

  4. Social Security & Disability
    15%
I assist injured and disabled workers with obtaining their rightful Social Security Disability benefits and help them appeal any denied claims.

  5. Wrongful termination
    15%
Losing your job creates all kinds of problems. If you think you were fired for a reason that is unfair or illegal, or if you were told you were fired for something that doesn't make sense, schedule an initial consultation with us for some peace of mind.

  6. Contracts and agreements
    10%
The law in Colorado regarding employment contracts is fairly specific. If your employer has asked you to sign a non-competition or non-soliciation agreement, or wants you to sign a release in exchange for severance, you should understand exactly what you are agreeing to. If you have been accused of violating a contract or agreement that you signed, don't put off contacting us.

    15 years

  7. LGBT+ Law
    10%
The law forbids sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment. Harassment is also prohibited. If you have experienced illegal treatment at work because of who you are or who you love, we can help.

At Livelihood Law, we fight for your right to earn a living.

We take on Employers who break the law and threaten your livelihood.  Our services include employee representation for:

  • contractual or commission disputes,
  • discrimination,
  • family medical leave,
  • Federal and State employees,
  • harassment,
  • retaliation,
  • severance negotiation,
  • unemployment benefits, and
  • wrongful termination.

If you are being faced with illegal treatment at work, whether you are still employed or not, contact us to find out your legal options.

We also help people who can no longer work to get the social security disability benefits they have earned.  This process is long and confusing, which can be disheartening, but our lawyers can help you through the process from application through appeals.

Call her.
Rachel provided a very worthwhile consultation and was a great advocate even without taking on a case. I will be calling her immediately if I ever need assistance with future employment negotiations.

Severance agreement review by Rachel Ellis
I am very grateful for Rachel Ellis and the Livelihood Law Firm. I would not have felt comfortable signing my severance agreement without Rachel's very thorough review of it as well as all my questions and concerns. It felt like a messy ugly separation from employment and I felt much better about it after her consultation.

Consultation with Rachel
I reached out to Rachel to discuss an employment concern regarding unpaid wages. She spent a considerable amount of time listening and asking questions via an online meeting and was so considerate. I can't thank her enough for all of her advice on what to do. I would highly recommend working with her if you are looking for an employment attorney!

Rachel Ellis is WONDERFUL
I would highly recommend using Rachel Ellis & Livelihood Law for many reasons. I would start with the fact that they are genuinely good people and care about your best interest. Also, if you are contacting an attorney, it is not for a very positive reason and Rachel Ellis made me feel at ease when speaking to her during what was a very emotional time. She is understanding and tuned into individual emotions and needs. Her ability to review your information and remember the details was impressive and spot on. She delivered above and beyond to my expectations. I hope I do not need legal services again, but if I do (or friends do) I will definitely be going straight to Livelihood Law LLC! Thank you Rachel and team.

Really understood my situation
I contacted Rachel to discuss my rights without intent for litigation. She was patient, caring and ultimately decided pursuing legal action was not the best course of action.

Doubled the original offer
Hired. Doubled the settlement the company originally offered me. Good ROI for my money.

Excellent
Rachel was great, she listened to my case, looked through all the information I gave her, and she felt confident about my case and gave me the reasons why which was comforting. I get very nervous about legal matters big or small and I didn't want to take any chances representing myself because it hadn't gone well for me in the past, so Rachel still showed up, which I think helped my employer show up for once, and Rachel helped me win my case and get closure for it. I was very grateful for how she prepared me, represented me, and followed up with me.

Great job with single consult
Ms Ellis thoroughly reviewed my case and asked good questions to understand my situation and motivations. Her review of my paperwork seemed thoughtful and on-point, with good focus on what truly matters. She seemed most interested in developing a strategy for my long-term success and happiness.

Excellant, client-first & thoughtful representation
I worked with Rachel Ellis through my entire process. She was communicative, very knowledgeable, and most important she stood up for me as a woman and as a professional who deserved justice and equality. She always kept my best interest in mind and fought to the end to help me win my case I had no idea was even possible to win. More than winning it was wonderful to connect with an attorney who understood what happened and what I deserved. Her assistant Amber was equally wonderful and always following up right away to any of my questions. Definitely go with Rachel for employment law!

Potential Client
I was somewhat skeptical paying a consult fee but it was well worth the advise. Rachel seems to be fully vested supporting and working on protecting the rights of clients. I had three strategies provided when I left that conversation. I will retain her services but I don’t have a legal case yet a few additional things need to happen from my employer.

Understanding, Compassionate and Knowledgeable
I was an HR Manager with a very sticky situation. The president of the company had been doing erratic irrational behaviors to many employees including me the entire time I worked there, but I knew something was going very wrong after I returned from Maternity Leave and my job duties had changed, among many other concerning factors. I consulted with Rachel and felt she took a lot of time looking into all of my documentation and was invested in my situation. She was compassionate with her words but was honest and straight forward with the situation. She helped brainstorm ways to make the situation better, and how I can be moving forward, what all of my options were. Although I didn't expect what she said, she explained it in great detail and made sure that she answered all of my questions. When following up she has given me great advice as well. Be aware that it might not be an instantaneous response from Rachel, but communicate what you need from her and she is very responsive! I'm thankful to have met her, and will hopefully not need her in the future but would recommend her to others for any employment issues.

consultation with Rachel
I consulted with Rachel to sound off on my work situation to see what my next steps would be. Rachel was very personable, sincere and honest. She was a good listener, friendly and understanding. She went out of her way to provide me with good, practical advice on how to move forward with my personal and professional situation although I work in cell biology and she is a lawyer- I truly admire her sincerity at wanting to help out even if this wasn't a situation she can help fix for me. True, facts are not always pleasant, but she provided me with the best, straightforward advice out there. I consulted many lawyers before her since my situation was unique and I could not get clear cut answers- needless to say she clarified my issues for me and how best to handle them. I highly recommend her.

We love unique situations and working with people in a wide variety of professions at Livelihood. While everyone's situation is different (and that's why this area of the law is endlessly fascinating), we often see familiar narratives play out, which can give us a lot of insight into the best path forward. I really appreciate you sharing this feedback so that others know what to expect when working with us.

A vital asset to the community
Rachel came highly recommended by another lawyer, and I'm so thrilled I reached out about a termination case. She and her team of support made the process totally painless when it could've been really scary. She often took time away from her busy day to respond to email requests or have phone consultations that were spot on and really quite empowering. I appreciate that style: just giving me the vital information and letting me decide what to do, with her counsel and advice serving as a backup. Rachel and her team are a vital community asset.

I have had the pleasure of working with Rachel on a couple of cases and she is exceptional. She and her staff are compassionate and fight for their clients best interest.
Response from Rachel Ellis November 20, 2020
I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. In professions with variable compensation, it's especially important that everyone is on the same page about the compensation structure from the beginning, and that you protect your interests both while you are employed and whenever you are planning your next career move. It is always a pleasure working with you!

Consultation - Great advice
Rachel was very astute and quickly assessed the documentation I provided on (what feels to me) like a lengthy & protracted situation. She developed trust and was also really no nonsense about my situation. She provided me concrete follow-ups and guidelines for how I can think about these next steps as it's developing. She was generous with her time and made sure we went through everything without making me feel rushed. I really appreciate the professionalism of her office / admin / management as well. It made the experience easier to navigate knowing exactly what she was looking for.
