Kevin Bennett is an Austin criminal defense attorney that practices 100% criminal law and only in Travis County. This allows Mr. Bennett to give his Austin and Travis County clients the representation that they deserve when their future is at stake. As a native Texan, Kevin Bennett knows that his state has a reputation for being tough on crime. This can lead to an overwhelming feeling of stress when facing charges in Texas. The criminal justice system is daunting and confusing, and he is determined to guide his clients through it with as little stress as possible by maintaining open communication while aggressively fighting on their behalf.
As a student, Kevin Bennett studied at the University of Texas in Austin, earning his bachelor's degree in economics. He then pursued his Juris Doctor from The South Texas College of Law. After becoming licensed to practice law in Texas, he gained experience under the Honorable Judge Jim York of the 246th District Court of Texas. This gave him a personal look at the struggles that individuals face when charged with a crime, and he resolved to fight for those that are in the toughest situations of their lives.
While determinedly defending his clients from all types of misdemeanor and felony charges including DWI, Assault, drug charges, theft and expunction, he is also an active member of the legal community. By participating in organizations such as the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association, the Austin Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association, and the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, he is able to stay current on legal issues.
When not in the office, Kevin enjoys travelling, attending sporting events, and appreciating performing arts while spending time with his family. He also dedicates his free time to serving on his Church's Mission Committee..

If you want Elmore Fudd to represent you, then hire this joker. I did all the work and he was basically just a figure with a law degree to go in front of the court. I had a temp protective order case and instead of defending me, his strategy was to just go along with my ex-wife and "don't Rock the bo...
I am very sorry that you feel this way. Protective order cases are the most emotionally charged cases at the court house. In every case, I have my client draft their version of events and responses to the allegations against them. This is a lot of work for the client, but it is absolutely necessary in order to properly prepare for and defend against a protective order. I always advise clients that while the protective order is pending, to not rock the boat or harass the other party, to keep a low profile, to not communicate with the other party and to not violate the temporary protective order in any way. Any new allegations, even if false, can put the case into a tailspin and possibly lead to new criminal charges against them. This is what any good attorney will advise. I've represented four (4) different clients in protective order hearings over the past two years. The first one was dismissed after several months. The protective order in the second one was denied after a full-day hearing. The third case was dismissed after several months. The fourth and last case I handled was for this reviewer. This client agreed to a very short six month protective order, not a permanent protective order. This decision was solely theirs to make, required their agreement in open court, and was based on an agreement to re-gain visitation rights to their child and to not risk having a 2 year protective order entered, which was very likely to happen at hearing. A six month protective order is almost unheard of, as two year protective orders are routinely and almost always granted by Judges. I put forth an incredible amount of time, effort and patience into this case and was able to help the client re-gain parental and visitation rights to their child and to substantially limit the duration and terms of the protective order. Prior to hiring my office, a Judge had taken away my client’s parental rights and visitation altogether. If the client had directed me in any different way, I would have been happy (and obligated) to proceed in that manner. After a protective order case (or any case) is concluded, an attorney’s representation is also concluded. Additionally, if a former client needs assistance in a new matter that is also in a different area of area of law than I practice, I will usually refer them to at least three (3) different attorneys that practice that specific area of law and also give them the contact information for the Austin Lawyer Referral Service. This is what I did for this former client. I’m truly sorry that you are unhappy with my office. I am always willing to meet or have coffee with former clients and would be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns, or just life in general. Either way, I wish you the best. Thank you.
