If you are applying for a federal disability retirement hire a lawyer from the start, preferably this lawyer. The OPM process seems cut and dry but there are things you need to know before you submit your package. My son had to apply for a reconsideration because he was not aware of those things. I hired Wersing because of his FERS experience. I paid a $5000.00 Retainer. Next, he could not understand my case and charged me to explain it to him. After that, he charged me to prepare Interrogatories and never filed a Motion to Compel after OPM ignored them. So I was charged for negligence. ...Then I get an email from another attorney claiming Wersing transferred my case to her. I terminated Wersing and only got back $1,370.00 of my $5000.00 Retainer.
