Non-Return of Payment

Atty Sloane was retained for a weapons charge on a first time offender. I was never charged in the case, only met and spoke to David Sloane at the time I retained him. He had me sign a "flat-rate contract" which is frowned upon by both the Tarrant County Bar association and the TX Bar Association. ... I did not know at the time. Since then, David Sloane has never once called me to keep me up to date on the case, to let me know anything. His suggestion, to sit and wait it out. It has been two years, and I am assuming I will not be charged in this case. I asked for a return of any unused retainers and he refuses to return anything. From my contact with the Tarrant Bar Association, attorneys should only charge for time and work they actually did on the case. He even admitted that there were no hourly notes or timesheets kept with regards to any work they supposedly performed on this case. They should NOT charge flat rate fees. I have begun my dispute and it will be handled by an arbitration committee. Either way, I believe Attorney David Sloane is untrustworthy when it comes to trying to recoup money for work that was never done.

When the prosecution backs down and doesn't pursue charges against my client due to my preemptive and proactive efforts to back them down, I do not then give a refund because the client was "never charged." Especially when they come back years after the fact and attempt recoup legal fees actually paid by their former employer. My contracts are in strict compliance with bar rules and this "dispute" was investigated and summarily dismissed by the State Bar.

Blessing in the Law field

I was arrested for possession of Marijuana, Called Sloane the moment I knew i needed help. I needed someone who would take action and get me out of a sticky situation. He filed papers and i just waited 3 years for any sign of a court date. Fortunately the charges/case was dropped due to statute of li...mitations. A few months after everything was dropped, i wanted to see if i could get some of the money i paid for him because he did not have to come to my town or do very much at all in those three years. I got in touch with his assistant and she said sorry its a one time fee. David was nice enough to call me back an offer me some of what i paid. He was honest and did his job to the fullest extent i needed. He has blessed me with my life and an even better holiday gift! He will always be my go to guy if im ever in a bad situation. Although i really hope i never have to call him again. Thank you so much for what you did for me i could never thank you enough! God bless!

Sloane

David was able to save me a lot of hassel and money plus a case that if I handeled myself would have been a nightmare brought to life turned into a cakewalk! He's always been very efficient at what he does and I feel safest working with him. His work ethic is outstanding and somewhat rare. David has ...supported me on 3 different cases.

Great Lawyer!

I was arrested for possession of marijuana and treated by the police like some criminal-thug. They handcuffed me and even strip-searched me at the jail. I was just about to graduate from Medical School. I hired David Sloane to defend me after he was referred to me by National Organization for Reform... of Marijuana Laws. He got the charges against me dismissed and then went in and got the record of my arrest expunged. I passed my DEA licensing without a hitch! The other lawyers I talked to told me I would have to be on probation and have a record! His prices were fair and I always felt he cared what happened to me.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards

  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
