My experience with Kathryn L. Hudson.

My divorce began May 2014. With three minor children involved, there was no room for error. Upon a reasonable retainer, Kathryn immediately went to work by filing a motion for an emergency hearing. My estranged wife had made many false accusations about me, as for her reason for holding our kids f...rom me until the hearing date. Long story short, Kathryn caught my ex in several lies on the stand. She knows what she's doing in the court room. That hearing resulted in taking my kids home. The judge ordered split custody for the duration of the divorce. Throughout the divorce I dealt with much harassment from dhs. My ex's grandmother knew people in dhs, so we were fighting them off left and right. They would suddenly show up at my house with new accusations about every month to every other month. Each time they did, I felt the need to call my attorney, Kathryn. Kathryn had a real sense of urgency when working with me. She always either answered the phone, or would call me back within less than five minutes each time. She never hesitated to help with advice. Never did she rush me through a conversation. I truly felt I could tell her everything; I was comfortable doing so. Kathryn went to battle dhs with an appeal hearing to take my name off a registry that was false and unjust. Just like at the initial hearing, she knew what she was doing. I felt at ease having her with me. I eventually obtained full custody of my three children, thanks to Kathryn's work and guidance. To describe this attorney, Kathryn L. Hudson, I would say 1. She is thoughtful - thinks about what her client is dealing with personally and considers it when going about her work. 2. Kind but straight forward - Kathryn is a very kind person, although she will not sugar-coat anything, she tells it like it is. 3. Not afraid to stand up against power - Kathryn keeps strong principles that she will not back down on, and not afraid to put her own neck out for a client if she truly believes that her client is being done wrong...by any authority. 4. Believes in Family. Thank you, Kathryn, for all of your hard work in my case. I am ever grateful to have hired you to represent me in such a time of crisis for my family.

Kathryn Hudson represented and advised me in a divorce proceeding that started as what I thought was going to be a very simple. We agreed on everything and had split up property. Simple right? Well, it didn't end up that way and I was at my wits end and stressed to the max. She made the entire proce...ss easy and reassuring for me during the heartbreak of a failed relationship. Thanks so much Kathryn. I can now start recovering. Ann

Divorce / Child custody

I was in an abusive marriage with two young children who had also became victims of my husband when I finally found an out and could leave him. I had a consult with Kathryn Hudson. She sounded wonderful. She said all the encouraging words and even had counseling set up for me and my children. Kathryn... kept in contact with me and was a great motivational cheerleader to keep me going. I had a payment plan making payments because of my situation. Upon making my final payment Kathryn's personality changed. I was no longer being informed of the progress of my case. I would often call her office 3-4 times before hearing back from her. Time sensitive paperwork was not sent to my husband's attorney which caused me to be in contempt of court. Kathryn left for vacation and called me to tell me to take the paperwork to his attorney! She refused to summond netural witnesses who witnessed me being attacked by my husband. Didn't get vital police reports that pertained to my abuse. When we finally went to court Kathryn was so unprepared she kept losing her thoughts in mid sentence, fumbling her words, stopping mid sentence to walk back and review her notes. She very early in the hearing dismissed my key witnesses who could verify the mental and physical abuse that I had to endure. I was so upset because my husband had witnesses who I had never met in out 9 years together who got on the stand and claimed I didn't take care of my children and Kathryn never questioned his witness as to if they even knew me. My abusive husband received joint custody of our children he gets them every other week, does not have to pay child support and there is on primary custodian for my children. If my ex wants to yank them out of school and put them in a totally diffetent school district I have no say about it. If our sn if failing in class and needs tutoring he doesnt have to take him if he doesnt want to. My children are forced to be in the middle of this continuous battle. Kathryn didn't have the decency to call me. She text me telling me to appeal and with a new lawyer. I hired another attorney but thanks to Kathryn who signed the divorce paperwork before even notifying me I am not even able to appeal the judges ruling. How is life now for my children? My son preformed in a Christmas play this past December and his father had him that week. When I arrived at the program my youngest son had on short sleeves and no socks while his brother preformed in shorts and a short sleeved shirt in December with 30 degree weather while their dad had on jeans and a sweat shirt. It broke my heart to see them walk out without coats and I cried when my kids told me they went to school this way. Thanks Kathryn you have hurt me and my children far more than I can ever express. I only pray that those seeking help as I did will find another lawyer and not use you.

Unfortunately attorneys cannot guarantee outcomes nor should they, and sometimes what we are told is not always factually the ways things are which makes it very difficult for the attorney. Joint custody is now the preferred option after the legislature changed the statute and it is entirely up to the judge, not the attorney, whether joint custody is ordered. When parties cannot agree the court orders the terms of a divorce and the signature of the attorney only approves the form of the order as was the case here. Clients are told they have 30 days to file a notice of appeal on a final order or decree and that was done here. This client timely filed the notice with another attorney, however, it appears not to have been followed through. Our retainer agreement states that it does not cover an appeal, which is very expensive and is a specialty in itself. All child custody and visitation orders can be modified if one of the parties is not abiding by the order or engages in conduct that is harmful to the child(ren). It is very disheartening to have someone nearly a year later feel they need to say such untruths.
