Litigator, James M. Quigley has tried Divorce cases in Cook, Lake and DuPage Counties for 26 years. Prior to becoming a Senior Equity Partner at Beermann LLP, he founded Quigley & Associates, P.C., a full-service Divorce/Family Law firm providing a wide range of legal and paralegal services to a broad-based clientele. Before pursuing his entrepreneurial endeavor of running his own firm, as an associate, Mr. Quigley headed the Family Law Department of a firm providing legal benefits for the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), representing a wide array of Chicago Police Officers, Chicago Firemen, Illinois State Police Officers and their families.

With a wealth of legal expertise and industry accolades, Mr. Quigley is driven by an unrelenting desire to help families navigate the complexities of litigation, in a way that preserves the family's relationship during distressing times. With a stronghold on the belief that there is nothing more precious than the sanctity of family, Mr. Quigley is particularly passionate about helping parents resolve custody disputes - including visitation, paternity and all other child support matters - in a manner most beneficial to the best interests of the children involved. Mr. Quigley is also recognized for his experience in the negotiation and trial of cases involving complex financial issues and property matters, and also represents clients in the drafting and enforcement of Prenuptial and Postnuptial agreements.

Mr. Quigley is highly regarded for his work and discretion representing an array of high-profile athletes, celebrity entertainers, politicians and other high-wealth individuals, including Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. He provided legal expertise on a number of local and national media outlets including MSNBC, Fox News Channel, The Today Show, NBC Chicago, CBS Chicago, ABC Chicago, Fox News Chicago and has appeared and been quoted in various celebrity outlets such as People Magazine, Life & Style Weekly, OK! Weekly, US Weekly and more.

Mr. Quigley is a Fellow in the exclusive organization, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers - an honor that requires the recommendation of a panel of existing members after passing a series of written and oral exams based on complex divorce and family law-related issues nationally and in the State of Illinois.  Other notable distinctions include being named a 2008-2018 Leading Lawyer; an honor awarded to fewer than 5% of lawyers in Illinois, a 2008-2018 Super Lawyer by Chicago Magazine and was elected the 2007-2008 Vice President of the DePaul University College of Law-Family Center Advisory Board. Mr. Quigley also received a 2008-2009 Martindale Hubbell (BV Rating), a peer-reviewed rating identifying lawyers with high, to very high legal ability.  Mr. Quigley is also a member a various Bar Associations and a member of the Sports lawyers Association, for which he heads the Midwest chapter and has lectured on Family Law issues Affecting Athletes and Entertainers.

In addition to his daily practice of divorce and family law, Mr. Quigley has assisted his Partner, Miles N. Beermann, in teaching a family law trial skills class at DePaul University College of Law, and has lectured for the Lake County Bar Association regarding marital property rights business valuations. He has also lectured for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education on recent case law developments in family law cases in Illinois as well as lecturing on Asset Protection.

Mr. Quigley's practice includes clients of diverse income levels, races, religions and ethnicity and prides himself on providing skilled, honest, experienced and professional service to all clients.  As a partner in a law firm that also provides additional legal services, Mr. Quigley is able to oversee matters handled by his Partners for his clients needing services in the areas of Estate Planning, Business counseling and litigation, Personal Injury, Real Estate and other areas of law.  This provides added value to his divorce/family law clients not available in a divorce firm the size of Beermann LLP.  Also, because of the firm's size, Mr. Quigley is able to utilize the services of skilled Associates and Paralegals that bill at lower hourly rates and that allow Mr. Quigley to handle cases of every size and complexity.  All of this translates to the experience, personal service and attention every client is entitled to during the difficult process of a divorce, custody dispute, prenuptial agreement negotiations and other family law matters.

Mr. Quigley was elected into the prestigious American College of Family Trial Lawyers (ACFTL), a national organization comprised of only 100 of the country's top divorce/family law trial attorneys who are also Fellows in the American Academy of Materimonial Lawyers (AAML).  Mr. Quigley is also a member of the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the American Law Society.

Spectacular
James and his team allowed me to walk through this process with dignity and some degree of peace. I cannot thank them enough for guiding through the most difficult experience of my life. They do not come cheap but they don't really suggest that they do. They earned their money. I certainly hope I never have to see them in a professional capacity again but will refer anyone who is going down this road to James and his team.

GOLD STAR
After nearly 50+ Five Star reviews of James, what else could possibly be said that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing. Nevertheless, I must share my experience. James is, without question, one of those 'old school' lawyers who will fight for you to the bitter end. Who, despite his enormously respected and high profile reputation, will make every client he works with seem valuable and important. He is clear, concise and has zero interest in stringing along a case for financial gain- which unfortunately is not the standard with most lawyers. He is quick thinking, strategic and can simultaneously see the big and small picture of complex legal matters. I don't know how he does it, but he is on top of everything and doesn't let anything fall through the cracks. He is a man amongst men and is worth every single penny and then some. You need to call him right now and hire him.

Got the job done!
I hired James and his team after working with a small group for more than 3 years and was still not divorced. When I met with James at Beermann Law, James made me feel comfortable and confident that he could take good care of me and my situation. Jame, Shana and Jordan were very thorough, professional and extremely responsive to my situation. In the end, they got the job done with a better than expected settlement! I will forever be grateful for James and the team, their help and an amazing job - well done!

Amazing
In so far as anyone can make divorce an easy process, James and his entire team worked tirelessly in my behalf to ensure a fair and equitable settlement. I was treated with the utmost kindness, respect and care. I felt as though no matter what I needed, from legal representation in court to simply a kind listening ear during the proceedings I was met with genuine support and endless comfort for my safety and well being. I always always made to feel as though I was the only and the most important person that he was dealing with at the time. It takes quite a bit of talent and effort to make it all look so easy and at the same time make each client feel vindicated and important. Thanks to you James and to everyone at Beerman Law!

Highly Recommended
James was hired- after a defeating battle with prior representation- to turn my support and custody case around; he far exceeded my expectations. James won my trial with top results that left precedent in the state of Illinois. He was referred to me as the "shark" I needed to stand up for me in a high net worth, high profile case; the skill and passion he has to stand up for what is right is impressive. What is most impressive, however, is his ability to put the client before himself. James can see the entire picture of who a client is and what is in the best interest of their life and future, and fight for it. One of his greatest values is his ability to then translate that to a Judge. His foresight makes him dependable and his integrity makes him trustworthy. I have since referred several diverse cases to James and they have all been extremely happy with him and their results. You will not find another lawyer who has as strong of an adamant drive to win, with just as strong of a passion to do what is best for you, topped with knowledge of the law to win you favor when you need it most.

Superb Team for a Difficult Situation
James and his entire team did a terrific job through an incredibly difficult divorce with several unique issues. They made every effort possible to resolve the matter amicably and avoid going to court, they kept me informed of everything I needed to know, and they worked diligently to limit the financial impact of the divorce on both parties. James took a personal stake in helping me navigate an extremely confrontational parenting situation. While not everything turned out exactly the way I would have liked, James kept both his team and me focused on the most critical issues, and delivered on the most important parts through strong preparation, reasonable, well thought out proposals, and the willingness to push hard on issues that were important to me and my children. More than anything else, I had no doubt through the entire process that James and the team he brought to the case were fully invested in helping me and my children through a difficult time in our lives. I don't know if there is much more you can ask for from a lawyer.

Lengthy Case
James and his team did a great job in my case. I had a previous attorney that did nothing for me. He would just giver me the run around and in the end screwed me over. I hired him mid case when thing got worse. James was VERY helpful and walked me through each step and explained everything very well. My case was a little unusual and they knew what to do and came up with a great game plan. When I wouldn't go to court they were awesome in communication. They would let me know what happened right away and would answer any questions I had. I can't say anything but good things about them. Would recommend!

Incredible, effective and caring attorney
James is incredible at what he does. Not only does he know the law inside and out, but he has a fantastic demeanor and ability to help you see the impacts of the decisions you make. He is oriented around mediation and compromise, but it's afraid to push hard and win if the occasion calls for it.

Need James on Your Side
I am writing to highly recommend James Quigley as a Family Law/Divorce attorney even though he was not my lawyer, he was against my interest in a family law lawyer matter. Quigley deposed me for three hours of relentless and grueling questioning. His approach was methodical and his strategy was clear and as he walked me through it, there was nothing I could do. Immediately after my deposition there was no choice other than to settle the case. As skilled and intense as Quigley and his associate were, he was at all times professional and respectful. I would not wish divorce upon any individual, but if you find yourself in the situation of having to get divorced, James Quigley and his team at the Beermann firm is the only choice. When you see their beautiful downtown and North Shore offices you know right away you are getting the best. You definitely get what you pay for.

James Quigley Family and Divorce Lawyer
People talk in a positive way about wanting to have a "shark in the courtroom" -- someone who is adept and is skilled with great ability and a gut sense. Well James Quigley to me is that but perhaps more of a maestro who oversees his highly skilled team at Beermann Law to try to orchestrate the best outcome for his clients as he waits for the crescendo to happen at just the right moment. I am highly recommending this National Board of Trial Advocacy family law trial advocate for those in need of expertise especially in a trial environment. My high-conflict divorce from my husband of more than 20 years was extremely complicated and needed the Beermann Law team approach. James Quigley stood out to me as an expert in the courtroom, quite "quick on his feet" when hit with distracting filed petitions by the opposing counsel that operated in "scorched earth" fashion. As a Northwestern-educated Olympian, I can tell you we didn't always see eye-to-eye when I questioned the process--in part because I am a competitive person who expects immediate results. But when forced into the courtroom, I knew I had an individual (with a talented team) who would keep this same spark with me going, eager to get results for me, his client.

Grandparent custody
Initial meeting with James was impressive. He clearly knew the law around grandparent custody and explained how difficult it would be and described how he would work with his staff to minimize the expense as much as he could. We gave him a mountain of paperwork that they used to put together the case which they turned around in just a few weeks. We went over what we had with another short meeting and were happy to hear he thought we had a good chance in his opinion. As our case moved forward James and his team were always available to us even outside the normal business hour on an emergency basis. This meant the world to us as we has involvement with our troubled Son trying to get his kids back when he was still drunk, and may other troubling dealings with him. We hired James and his team because of reviews like this and were ecstatic with the outcome. We did win after 9 months of court but even if we hadn't won I would have written that James, Jordan, and Madison were a great team and far exceeded our expectations. They met each challenge with optimism, thoughtfulness, and drive all while conserving our expenses. I have included our names and e-mail as I want this team to know how much we appreciate what they have done and even more to be able to do it within the budget that we had originally discussed in the very beginning. Now a little bit about James: 1. In our first meeting he walked in with an air about him that you just knew he knew his business and was not going to settle for less then making his best effort. 2. He was VERY honest that there was a great chance that we would loose this case. Grandparents have no rights in the State of Illinois. In January that change to limited rights but it didn't help our case. 3. James followed our case even when he didn't need to because we were having success in court without him. He was very thoughtful of the time he put in and consulted his team in the background when he determined he needed to. This was trans parent to us other than seeing his time in the monthly billing that was supplied. 4. I've dealt with other attorneys where the billing didn't meet what was being delivered, well that wasn't the case with this firm. We got the monthly billing and as I examined there were many cases where the time was booked and the cost was $0. 5. In the second or third month we had a issue with our grand kids and were in a spot where we had 2nd thought if we wanted to pursue custody. James was on the spot with his discussion with us and helped to affirm our priorities and what it would really do for the kids. This was something that lasted the rest of the time with my wife and I and will live with us for many years to come. In closing I want to say that we can never THANK YOU enough for helping us to navigate through a legal system that is not prepared for grandparents to get custody of the children. Your knowledge of the laws and professionalism were key to us winning this case. Sincerely, James & Carol

Job well done
James Quiqley at Beermann handled my divorce proceedings from beginning to end, which lasted about 18 months. The case had some difficult custody issues, and James addressed those issues skillfully and conscientiously. He had to deal with two different iterations of opposing counsel, each of which presented their own challenges--the first firm engaged in reckless spending (leaving it solely to our side to figure out how to preserve the modest assets for the parties' benefit), and their replacement seemed determined to delay the process. James dealt with these tactics in expert fashion, and was able to keep the case on course and drive it to its correct conclusion. I highly recommend him.

Look no further!
If you are looking for a divorce lawyer, look no further. James is the best. He is confident, knowledgeable, well known, personable and charismatic. The perfect combination to obtain great results. My situation was very very difficult. My ex had narcissistic characteristics and had financially strangled me throughout our entire marriage. Through James' negotiating skills, he situated me financially so that I felt comfortable moving forward with my life on my own. As a father of four as well, he has a high level understanding of how to be at the parent which was extremely comforting and helpful. Of the comparable competitors, I am so happy and relieved I chose James and the Beermann firm to handle my case! Thank you James!!

Child Custody
Obtained Atty Quigley's expertise and his staff numerous times. We obtained what we had negotiated for through the court and by his expertise and the help of his staff. Atty Quigley is very professional and outlines exactly what he needs from his client. Sometimes the process takes a long time to accomplish which I wish was shorter. I would gladly request his help again if needed.

Confident in the courtroom
I turned to James after it was my determined that my divorce - which should have been a fairly simple process - was indeed going to be a difficult mess instead. He stepped in effortlessly, and did an amazing job. I couldn't have asked for a better attorney in the courtroom. James's confidence and knowledge was priceless in my case.

James is a FANTASIC attorney! After many hours of research, planning, collaborative discussion w/ me and the opposing counsel he was able to bring a satisfactory solution that supported my goals/objectives and was reasonable in terms of my family's needs. I would recommend him to anyone seeking support - from easy to complex family restructuring scenarios.

Outstanding Representation
I am a litigation partner in a national law firm, so I am a fairly sophisticated consumer of legal services. I can say without reservation that James is an excellent matrimonial attorney. He previously represented me in my divorce and more recently in my ex-wife's motion to increase child support and raise a cap on support that was negotiated in the marital settlement agreement. James successfully handled the matter in a highly competent and cost-effective manner. His knowledge of the law in the jurisdiction and specific experience before this particular judge proved to be invaluable. In sum, I was highly satisfied with the outstanding quality of the legal representation that I received, and I would highly recommend James for any divorce or post-decree matter in Chicago or the surrounding counties.

Excellent Divorce Attorney
Jim represented me during my divorce proceedings. He was a terrific advocate for me during that very trying period in my life. I found his counsel to be first-rate, as he blended his deep knowledge of divorce law, with "rubber-meets-the-road" practical advice on when and where to negotiate, and what the trade-offs might be in any given set of circumstances. I would recommend Jim without reservation.

His ultimate respect for the client's best interest, coupled with his keen ability to seek win-win results, garners him the respect of his peers throughout the midwest. "Having practiced for over 20 years, Mr. Quigley brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him into the courtroom. He possesses the tact and diplomacy to settle the most contentious cases, however, he also has the litigation skill and experience to see your matter through trial, should that be necessary. A proud family man, he seems especially adept at dealing with custody/visitation related issues. I would strongly recommend Mr. Quigley to anyone in need of a divorce/family law lawyer."
