David Samuel Kerpel

I became acquainted in with David in 2013 while attending a workshop at The Lilac Tree in Evanston where he was speaking on the subject of "modifications to existing divorce decrees". I then retained his services to explore modification to my decree, granted 2 1/2 yrs prior. With David's excellent st...rategies, expertise and support, he was very successful in obtaining an award for modification in court. Most recently in Sept 2018, I again retained David when my former spouse chose to retire and discontinue paying my maintenance. In Feb 2019, the court ruled the retirement was "in bad faith" and David negotiated on my behalf with the opposing counsel and Judge to reach a very successful final settlement. In hindsight, I wish I had known David Kerpel when my divorce process began. David is highly professional, supportive, educating, insightful, and efficient. I have worked with David over the course of the last 3 years - first pre-decree and then 2 years post-decree. From the beginning, David worked to help identify the key issues I needed to focus on in my case to work within my limited budget. Although his rate is average or a little below other attorne...ys, he has an amazing way of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time. Having worked previously with a few other attorneys who spent YEARS wasting my money and making no progress for me in court, I was shocked at how quickly he could get things done for me in court and get my case resolved with a better than expected outcome. Post-decree, unfortunately, I had to get his support again to have my parenting agreement and judgment enforced that my ex was not following. He was great at helping me narrow down my case to the most important things and building a solid case in documentation and logically and succinctly drafted petitions showing the progression of things. The Judge sided with us on almost every issue. Having worked with several other attorneys previously on my divorce, as well as one on a personal injury case, I was very skeptical of attorneys in general and thought I would never find an honest, down to earth attorney that didn't just run up the bill. Finding David was a breath of fresh air! He is also so personal and compassionate, so having meetings and talking on the phone with him ended up encouraging me in this painful process, rather than frustrating me as was the case with other attorneys. English is not my native language, but that did not affect David’s ability to communicate with me. Divorce was the worst process of my life, especially with a very young child, and both of us being non-US citizens. It would have been very hard for me to go through this process without David. I was f...ortunate to have David as my attorney. He protected me and my son, and helped us by using great strategy to get me through the process as smoothly as possible. My case was very complicated, because the laws of both countries had to be included in the divorce proceeding. David consulted with other attorneys, both in the United States and in my home country and made it work in the best way. David is extremely knowledgeable, diligent, professional, and compassionate. I cannot imagine a better lawyer.
