Biography
Attorney and Counselor – Michael J. Boyle is a Partner and Shareholder and serves as Senior Trial Attorney. He joined the Barone Defense Firm in 2005 after a successful solo criminal defense practice. Mr. Boyle has been personally trained and mentored by the Firm’s principal and founding member Mr. Patrick T. Barone. Mr. Boyle is a highly trained and skilled Trial Attorney and has represented clients in over 70+ counties throughout Michigan. Mr. Boyle is a graduate of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan Trial College. He has also a graduate of the highly regarded “Trial Lawyers College,” which was founded by nationally renowned trial attorney Gerry Spence. Like Mr. Barone, Mr. Boyle has worked personally with and been trained by Mr. Spence and has used this training to win drunk/drugged driving and criminal trials.
Mr. Boyle has been certified as a practitioner of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests in accordance with the standards set forth by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). He is also trained and certified as a Drug Recognition Evaluator/Expert (DRE) specifically designed for DUI Drug cases, and also Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE). This extensive training has provided him the ability to thoroughly and accurately review your case, and tactically cross examine arresting officers.
Mr. Boyle has had extensive training and experience in understanding the science and principals involved in chemical testing, including the DMT DataMaster (breath testing), which is used throughout the State. In addition, Mr. Boyle is one of only a few Michigan attorneys that has had specialized and hands-on training with Gas Chromatography (GC) (quantitative blood testing) for alcohol and GC / Mass Spec and LC Tandem Mass Spec for whole drug & blood drug Detection and analysis. This unique and essential comprehension allows him to understand the complex science of alcohol metabolism and to fully analyze your case and confidently cross examine the State’s forensic experts.
Mr. Boyle is a founding Board Member of the Michigan Association of OWI Attorneys (MIAOWIA) and has been a Speaker at several seminars throughout Michigan, including presenting at State Bar of Michigan Marijuana Law Section on “Tips in Handling Marijuana DUID Case” and “FOIA and THC Blood Testing”. He is teaching assistant to Adjunct Professor Patrick T. Barone at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and is an active member of the Cooley Alumni Association. He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan – Criminal Law Section, Marijuana Law Section, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan.
Mr. Boyle's extensive trial skills and representation has also extended to a focus on cases involving allegations of Criminal Sexual Conduct, Assault, and Firearm and Self-Defense cases, major Controlled Substance. His experience and trial skills and training have allowed for success in these most difficult and serious practice areas. He has presented throughout the State on these topics, and shares his knowledge in Trial practice with Attorneys throughout the State.
