Practice areas
  1. Criminal defense
    65%
I represent citizens charged with crimes ranging from traffic tickets to Death Penalty cases. I am a seasoned, experienced, and successful Trial attorney in this area. While the vast majority of criminal cases are resolved through Plea Agreements, my approach is not to force a Client to plead guilty instead of going to Trial. it's better to find out what the Client's goals are first and then adopt a strategy to accomplish that goal.

  2. Personal injury
    20%
I represent people who are injured as the result of somebody else's negligence. Typically, these cases involve traffic crashes, medical negligence, slip/falls, dog bites, electrocutions, etc. While an insurance company might try to convince you that they will be "fair" in settlement, they always have an agenda and bottom line is settling that case for as cheaply as possible. That is exactly where an experienced PI attorney can make the difference.

    35 years

  3. Litigation
    15%
I represent a mix of indivdual business owners and closely held corporations in disputes that end up in Court. Those matters typically range from breach of contract, collections, theft of trade secrets, etc. The trick in this kind of litigaiton is to keep an eye on the overall damages versus the cost of litigation. Getting into different Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR") can sometimes be an extremely cost effective way of solving the problem without breaking the Client's bank!

    26 years

I am an avid outdoorsman, and regularly hunt waterfowl, deer, turkey, coyote, and other big game.  I also like to fish, hike, camp, and hang out around bonfires.

For fun, I pretend to be a rock star and enjoy playing bass guitar in a few local alternative bands here in Youngstown.  One of those bands was a local punk institution that helped to develop a downtown bar called "Cedars" waaaay back in the 1980s.

Although I love to read, my career tends to pull me away from that passion.  History appeals the most to me.

Another passion is foreign languages and cultures.  I speak a few languages now and am currently studying Spanish and Italian.  I have travelled globally to the Carribean, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Kenya, and China.  Here in the US, I have been to about 25 States.

After a ridiculous hiatus (that's a high-falootin' way of saying "a break"), I put a bike together and enjoyed "wind therapy" as often as I can.

I am equally comfortable in a flea market(can you say "Four Seasons"?) as I am at a high-brow black tie event.  You might stumble into me at an auction, a poker run, or a muscle car show too.

Great Attorney
Dennis has been a longtime Family Attorney and has always helped our family and friends out he is very good in all of the levels of the law I would trust him with my life Thanks for always being there

Charles, former client
I would highly recommend this lawyer and would use him again if I needed his services. He was prompt , and his research was correct. He called and returned calls appropriately. He did exactly what he told me he would do. He was fair, honest, legally correct, and professional. That is what I would expect from a competent attorney. The matter was resolved much more favorably in my favor due to his diligence. He did not take the easy way out nor did he just find one avenue, but rather did the needed research to find the best path to resolve the situation.

Trust him with my life
I had no idea how the legal process works. All I knew is that I was arrested and out on bond. Atty. DiMartino not only helped everything make sense, but he got my charges reduced, AND he constantly advocated for me. I refer him for everything.

Satisfied Client
I have used Attorney Dimartino 3 times and have been satisfied with the results on three separate and unrelated matters. The last case was especially complicated and confidential. Attorney Dimartino demonstrated willingness to communicate with anyone and everyone until matters were resolved. I would definitely recommend Dennis as an attorney.

Hands on Attorney
Attorney DiMartino worked diligent and throughly in handling my case. He is a resonably priced attorney who kept me informed every step of the way with my legal questions. Not only did he take the time to email updates but Attorney DiMartino returned all phone calls within a 24 hour period. I was extremely pleased with the results this attorney provided.

Dennis DiMartino is a man of extreme integrity
I have known Attorney Dennis DiMartino for approximately forty(40) years, first as adolescent then as a local law enforcement investigator then as a Special Agent with the Department of Homeland Security and finally as a lifelong friend. I believe that I am very qualified to surmise his personal as well as professional accomplishments. If I could sum up Dennis DiMartino in one word ,that word would be integrity. Atty DiMartino is not only a man of extreme integrity he also is a person of outstanding morals. Atty DiMartino connects with his clients on a very personal level. He is a man that truly cares about his clients and what they going through. From a professional viewpoint, I have observed Atty DiMartino in hundreds of trials and I can tell you that there are not many lawyers in a domestic or international arena that can come close to his courtroom abilities. He is always very prepared prior to entering a courtroom venue . Atty DiMartino has a very natural "knack" to pay close attention to detail and uses that information to protect his clients and win cases. Many Judges, ,Prosecutors as well as AUSA's would rather plea bargain or drop cases than face him one on one in a courtroom standoff. Atty DiMartino is a true professional and any person that is in need of professional legal assistance would only benefit from retaining him as counsel.

Hire Dennis DiMartino?
I had Dennis as my attorney a couple of times. It should have only been once. But I gave him the benefit of the doubt and was wrong to do so. Although he comes across as a really smart man, I sometimes believe that is only an act. He isn't very dependable.

Knows the Law, but Not Professional
I was recommended to Dennis DiMartino and his associates through a friend. Dennis was very energetic at first, bringing multiple associates on board and promising many things. But then as time went on, he was less and less reachable, and less and less accountable. After months of court delays, he was not at all prepared when he needed to be, and left me hanging when it was time for my trial. My case was a complicated one of mistaken identity and is still not resolved, even though I am innocent and Dennis should have been able to prove that. I have to wonder how much better it could have gone for me if Dennis had treated my case like it mattered to him, with determination and purpose, as a stake-holder, as opposed to someone on the sidelines. Dennis made many empty promises to me, reviewed all of my information, and said we would win ... then he gave up in the end and threw me "under the bus". I have yet to find resolution in my case, or to receive a contract or a billing statement from him. I have never been given a chance to see my case file by him, he does not return my phone calls or e-mails, and I have not received any of the refund which I asked him for almost a year ago. Dennis has my money, let my reputation be ruined, and has done nothing to help me with what I hired him for. Given the terrible unprofessional performance I have received from Dennis, and the other complaints which I have now read, I feel that Dennis DiMartino should not be allowed to practice law any longer, and I would like a full refund of my payments and a start-over of my case.

He STILL owes us money
This attorney is not consistent or reliable. He disappears for weeks without letting you know what is going on. He made commitments that he did not always follow through on. I had to hire another attorney because I never knew if he was going to follow through on prior commitments. He has a very poor track record regarding refunding money. I would not use this attorney again unless you have another attorney that can manage his effort and production.

Never again
Hired Attorney Dimartino for 2 cases. He really pushed for me to hire him, but once I did he stopped contacting me or returning my calls. He acted rude and defensive. He lost both cases by not filing documents on time. He never contacted me to tell me the cases were over. If I hadn't contacted another attorney, I would still be waiting for an answer.

Case drug on & on & on. He was excited to take the case, but barely worked on it. Didn't respond to insurance company, my doctors, etc. Couldn't get answers to my questions or what was the status of my case. His receptionist was rude and acted like I was a bother when I called every 3 months. Ended up having to file a lawsuit and then it was countless continuances of hearings. Late on filings and responding to case details. Took many years to resolve the case and the outcome was poor. I wish I had gone with other lawyers to begin with who thought the case was great, but he seemed excited to take the case and promised much more than he could and did deliver.

Very unprofessional
When I first contacted Mr. DiMartino, he was on the phone to me every day, until I signed the contract. After that I could not get a hold of him. After 1.5 years of trying to get some information/results, he is no longer my lawyer. I have received his file, and he did absolutely nothing on my case. If I had known about this website, I would never have hired him.

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2017.

Indefinite Suspension issued in OH, 2017
updated on 11/01/2018

Suspended indefinitely means an attorney lost his or her license to practice law for an unknown period of time. The attorney will need to re-apply for admission to the Bar if he or she intends to resume practice in the future.

Suspension For Term issued in OH, 2010
updated on 10/01/2012

Suspended for term means an attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Dennis's comment: “I was disciplined for a personal matter that occurred as i was ending my first marriage. It did not involve a client, money, drugs, or anything else like that. I am embarrassed that I acted out of emotion and did something I deeply regret to this day. Most all the local Judges and lawyers agree that it had nothing to do with my abilities in the Courtroom as a Trial lawyer.”

Placed On Probation issued in OH, 2007
updated on 10/01/2012

Probation means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State monitors the lawyer's activities for a period of time in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Dennis's comment: “I did not work on the same pace that a Client wanted, who requested a full refund. As I had already devoted time on the case, including several trips to the prison and Courthouse, I could account for half the retainer and returned the other half to the Client's representative. They disagreed and pursued a Grievance. I was given a suspended sentence and continued representing Clients who needed an experienced, aggressive Criminal Defense attorney.”

Suspension Stayed issued in OH, 1994
updated on 10/01/2012

Suspension stayed means the attorney has been suspended, but that the suspension is placed on hold (and ultimately removed) if the attorney complies with certain requirements.

Dennis's comment: “I was a very young lawyer and didn't keep up with the work that was required on a case. I was reprimanded for my errors, which I deserved. I learned that if I was going to be a Trial attorney, I had to develop good systems to stay on top of the never ending caseload of Clients!”

"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Dennis since Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he was our SBA class president. Dennis has established a reputation amongst his peers as an aggressive, dedicated advocate for his clients. I have callled upon Dennis for expert referrals and advice. He has won many cases for his clients. I recall one particular case where his client was facing four life counts of rape involving a young child. Dennis told me how strong he believed in his client and how nervous he was knowing that if convicted his client would spend the rest of his life behind bars for crimes he did not commit. Dennis did a spectacular job and the jury acquitted his client of all chages! Simply awesome. Dennis is a zealous advocate, personable and has a great sense of humor. I am proud to have him as my friend and colleague."

Relationship: Friend
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Dennis for 28 years, and in those years, he has exhibited an undying commitment to friendship, caring, professionalism, and integrity. God forbid a million times if I ever needed a criminal defense attorney, I would turn to my friend Dennis, who is so exceptional, that he is second to none and I can support that statement with numerous examples over the years. When my father passed away in 1985, during our first year in law school, it was Dennis who scooped me up to rescue me from the horrible darkness I was plunging into. Dennis deserves only the very best in life and you are blessed if you can call him "friend.""

"Dennis DiMartino is a principled and thorough advocate. I've heard this sentence more than once, to wit: "I've never been able to beat Dennis DiMartino."
