Attorney Newman's experience includes successfully handling all aspects of litigation, including trials, and Pretrial litigation. In addition to her solo practice, Attorney Newman is also a contract attorney and she has successfully litigated literally thousands of matters as local counsel for various law firms throughout the State of Florida, including negotiating thousands of out-of-court settlements during mediations. Attorney Newman is passionate about civil rights and employment law, and she worked most of her life in various employment law related positions, in both private and public organizations. She is also a Certified Federal EEO Investigator and Certified Florida Supreme Court Circuit Civil Mediator.
Attorney Newman grew up in Buffalo, New York, during the heat of the civil rights movement in the 1960's, where she not only witnessed discrimination and civil rights violations as a child, but also experienced it first hand, including housing discrimination, police brutality and employment discrimination.
In addition to her law practice and mediation services, Attorney Newman is a certified federal sector EEO Investigator. She has investigated federal employee discrimination complaints in both Union and Non-Union employment settings for various federal agencies nationwide and she has also represented federal employees in discrimination complaints against federal agencies. Prior to her legal career, Attorney Newman was a regional Human Resource Generalist for a private corporation for over eight years, where she was primarily responsible for employee relations for over 3,000 employees. During this time, Attorney Newman investigated numerous discrimination claims, prepared and presented employment law training classes, prepared position statements in response to EEOC inquiries, and regularly communicated with agencies connected with employment law regulations, i.e., EEOC, Department of Labor, OSHA and Florida Commission on Human Relations.
Attorney Newman is highly qualified to practice employment law, having graduated with six college degrees, including a law degree (JD) from Stetson University College of Law and a Masters in Business Administration Degree (MBA), specializing in Human Resource Management, from Wayland Baptist University. Attorney Newman has over 30 years of hands-on work experience, including eight years as a Human Resource Generalist; eight years as a District Manager for an international retail convenience store chain; five years as an EEO Representative in the Army; and eight years in civil service, including Administrative Assistant for the Veterans Administration, Administrative Specialist for the U.S. Marshal's Service and Deputy Clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Attorney Newman is also a veteran, honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1994 after eight years of active duty service, including service as a Non-Commissioned Officer. She was awarded three Army Commendation Medals and three Army Achievement Medals during her service in the military.
