I try to be plain and straight forward in my typed AVVO answers (whether direct or e-mailed) and equally so in both the AVVO generated telephone calls that I field and those that I return. Dear Lester, There is nothing quite like hearing a Clerk read "not guilty" off of a verdict form, but beating a case on a pre-trial motion... well that is why I became a criminal defense lawyer. In your son's case we called out the cops and we came out on top. While I'm grateful for your heartfelt recommendation I am going to take a moment to basque in your praise of my YouTube channel ("MichaelHaberLaw"). As thankful as you are to have found me (and as proud of my 152 prior AVVO client reviews as I am), knowing that some of my VideoFAQs were influential in steering you to me is an enormous source of pride, and for that I offer you my ardent gratitude. My first VideoFAQ went online in June, 2015, now, less than 3 years later, I have 258 of them and I will continue to script, shoot, produce and publish more. I can't say that another lawyer would not have been able to present the facts and the law in your son's case just as I did (after all, I did not make either up... the facts and the law of the case were what they were regardless of my involvement), but I can say that I'm both proud and delighted to have been the one to have done so. Great man!
People usually get stressed and confused very easily. Between the costs of defense and dragging out cases for their own personal wealth and the lingo no-one but officers of the court understand puts a bad taste in people's mouths when the hear the word attorney. Especially when you stress the cost ...
Dear Joseph, First, please accept my most heartfelt "you're welcome" and "thank you". Over the course of 4 or so years I have answered some 19,000 questions on AVVO. I don't know if that sounds like a lot, or not, but I assure you (and everyone else) that this has taken a significant deal of time, effort and energy. I answer questions throughout the day, on weekends and while on vacation. I also necessarily field follow-up to AVVO questions in the form of relentless telephone calls and emails (98% of the time from people who's problem is no where near my practice area and with whom I will never work). In the end I usually hear nothing further from the Asker (nor do I ever expect to) but I also receive plenty of "nasty-grams" (from, people who either did not like what I had to say or how I chose to say it, and also from people who feel that they are entitled to more than my free of charge internet answer). And then there is the extraordinary and rare Asker like you, who makes all of the time and effort (and berating) worthwhile. Your words are humbling, I am grateful and, most importantly, I am recharged to get back to offering assistance to the appreciative and the unappreciative alike. I just needed a quick question answered that I couldn't find on google or google scholar and Mr. Haber gave it to me quickly and accurately.
