With the current state of affairs with police officers and Black American, as the parents of a young Black male that has never, ever, been in trouble with the law and had just graduated from a prestigious University in Atlanta Georgia, it was mind boggling when he was pulled over in Georgia for what ...I feel was being “Black and driving a nice car”, it was the most frighten thing for us to get a call from our son stating that he had been arrested. He was taken to a police station and was not allowed to call his parents. It was only through persistent calling to the police station that we found out that he needed a telephone account to make calls outside the jail to his parents. We didn’t know the charges, reason, or what was happening to our son. I immediately started to research the lawyers in that area that could handle this case and tell us what was going on with our son. We contacted the Law office of Howard J. Weintraub at 11:45 p.m. We knew it was very late and was hoping to receive a call from him the next morning but approximately 30 minutes later at 12:15 a.m., Howard called us in regards to our son. We were totally shocked that a lawyer would call us at that early time of the morning. Howard did not make any guarantees or promises to us. He explained the legal process to us and told us what to expect. He met with our son at 8:30 a.m. that same morning and went over the case with him and with us. Race, social economic status, education, or religion did not matter to Howard and Ben, only ensuring that our son got the best possible legal representation. They fought for our son as if he was their very own relative and they always followed up with us 2-3 times a week letting us know what was going on with his case. I know that isn’t the norm for lawyers but it was for Howard and Ben. In the end, all felony charges have been dropped and he was approved for a diversion program and once that is complete, his record will be expunged. Howard and Ben did assure us that their work would not be completed until every “I” was dotted and every “T” was crossed for our son and his record is expunged. If you want a lawyer that will speak the truth, not BS you, and fight for your rights, then you want Howard and Ben as your lawyers. It’s not a black or white thing for them, it’s the right thing. In November 2013 I received the phone call , from my son, that no mother wants to receive. It was my 20-year-old, college sophomore, and he had been arrested in a small town in southern Georgia. He was pulled over for speeding and the officer said he smelled marijuana and searched the car. In the ...search a small amount of marijuana was discovered in one of the passengers back packs. Because no one claimed ownership of the drug all 5 people were arrested for possession and as the driver of the car criminal liability was placed on my son. Believe me, it happens exactly as you are told, no less, no more, no BS. Another fact that is very important to me, no matter if it's day or night, you need Howard, you have Howard. My wife called him once, when I had a situation, and left him a message at the office around 11pm on a holiday. Guess what? Howard called her in less then 5 minutes and, before anything, he spent a good amount of minutes calming her down, understanding what happened and began preparing to take action to provide the best assistance I needed. Where could I have the same? I don't know... Today Howard, Debbie and Ben became my friends, more than that, they are like family. As the best professionals I know here, if I need them, they will be there again taking care of their client.
