I highly recommend Dan Donahue who represented me when I was charged with a DWI and underage drinking (I am 19 years old) in Currituck County, NC. I am not from that area, so I didn't know any lawyers around there, so my Dad used the internet to search for one. After reviewing several attorney web...sites, we chose Mr. Donahue because he grew up there and had a good record for getting DWIs dismissed. We initially contacted him by email and he responded immediately. After reviewing the police report he had confidence that he could get the DWI dismissed because the car was parked when the police first approached me and they never actually saw me driving. Mr. Donahue said that even though my alcohol level was over the limit (.12), the DA would have a hard time convicting me of a DWI because I wasn't driving the car at the time of the arrest. He said he would take the case to trial if necessary and he was confident that he would eventfully win. Mr. Donahue was familiar with the judges in Currituck County, the DA, and he even knew the arresting officers. His familiarity with the law and the Currituck County court system led him to believe that the DA would not want to go to trial and would probably settle for a reckless driving conviction. It was a huge relief knowing that the DWI charge would likely be dropped, but in the end, I wasn't even charged with reckless driving. Mr. Donahue got the DWI dropped and I only had to plead guilty to an underage drinking charge, which is no big deal. The other good thing is I never had to appear in court, so I didn't have to drive back to Currituck County, which is a long ways from home.
