         No matter the client or the case, I firmly believe the following: An attorney should be brutally honest with their client which includes unequivocally advising the client of the negative aspects of their case and the risks associated. An attorney should respond to client correspondence immediately, not days or weeks later, and treat the client like a valued customer. An attorney should put a strong emphasis on alternatives to litigation as litigation should always be the last resort, especially in family law related matters.

My primary area of practice is family law which includes – divorce, custody, visitation, support, settlement agreements, pre–nuptial / post–nuptial agreements, protective orders, step-parent adoptions, and other matters related to domestic disputes. Further, I continue to keep my criminal defense skills sharp and represent clients charged with criminal offenses on an as needed basis.

Simply Amazing!
I had a very difficult case that was quite complicated with many factors involved. It also didn’t help that I was an out of state father. Michael Daugherty took the time to listen to everything I wanted to share. In case preparation, he quickly identified the facts of the case that would be most effective to present in court. He offered his ideas and listened to my ideas of how I wanted to present the case. I never felt rushed and was very satisfied in the way we worked together to prepare for court. Mr. Daugherty discussed my case with other attorneys in his firm seeking their individual expertise to maximize our preparation for court. In court, Michael Daugherty remained focused on presenting all of the important facts of the case. He was familiar with all of the judges and knew what each of them would find most relevant. One of the difficulties I have found with the Virginia courts is simply trying to get the judges to care about each case. Mr. Daugherty presented evidence in a manner that not only captured and retained the judge’s attention, but encouraged them to care about the case and ask their own questions. His dedication to my family’s best interest is the only way that we were able to secure justice for my son. It is impossible to convey in a short review how thankful I am to Michael Daugherty and the Daugherty Law Firm.

This is the second custody hearing mike has representing me in. With his guidance during the Initial separation. And the amazing job he does in the court room I still have my joint custody of my daughter. Despite unfair and biased judges. (I am a father and we all know how hard court is on us). Professional, responsive, caring
Mike Daugherty helped me prepare a property, custody, and support settlement agreement. As my lawyer, he listened to my needs and answered my questions clearly and reasonably. Experienced family law attorney
Mike is an experienced attorney with significant court experience. He has handled my family law matters for a few years. He really looks in the best interest of the client, never pushy to either settle or go to trial. He keeps it real by managing expectations. In court, Mike really delivers a straight forward and relatable opening statement that is well thought out. He puts time and effort into the strategy of the presentation of the evidence. If I had to point out one intangible, it’s his ability to think quickly on his feet. He can digest the evidence and quickly identify and challenge issues, in the form of objections and cross examinations. During closing, he takes all of the information and really brings home the main points. As a bonus, he doesn’t nickel and dime you like other law firms in the area.

Attentive and Professional Lawyer
Mike was one of the most professional lawyers in the Prince William County Courthouse. Mike knew the judges and how to present a very solid case for my Child Custody Hearing. My Son's mother left in the middle of the pregnancy and prevented giving me an opportunity to be a part of his life. This was while COVID was occurring so the courthouse had serious delay for my trial. Mike provided solid advice for me throughout the time so I can ensure when my trial occurred I would get what I wanted. I was given everything I had asked for. Also, as a client Mike was not an unreasonable person when it came to speaking to him and his time. He did not pinch pennies and watch the clock. I would refer him to anyone that is looking to build a strong case!

Great Family Law Attorney!
If you need a family law attorney, I highly recommend Michael Daugherty. Michael is a no-nonsense, knowledgeable, aggressive attorney and knows what he is doing professionally. Super professional, gets to the point, cuts through the noise to get to the real issues. Gets results. I am super glad I worked with Mike. Professional and Experienced - Custody Modification
I live in Northern Virginia and hired Michael Daugherty to handle a complicated custody modification after reading the excellent reviews posted online. I was not disappointed! Mike was with us through the entire process from emergency hearing to trial getting me the best results!!!
