About Me

Family has always been very important to me.  I grew up on a farm in Quincy, Washington.  Growing up, I loved competition and I found an outlet for that in sports.  I was never a great athlete, but for everyone who knows me, I love to win—and I hate to lose!  As I grew older, my competitive nature extended to school and then my career.

After graduating from Central Washington University and then Cornell Law School, I was recruited by big law firms to work for big businesses.  For 17 years I worked in a firm with more than 1500 attorneys in offices around the world.  I was a high-stakes litigator, and I sued big businesses on behalf of other big businesses so that shareholders could have more profit.  I was really good at it.  But I felt more and more dissatisfied because I wasn’t really helping people.  Because of that, I left a comfortable position at the very large firm and eventually opened my own firm so that I could help people.

Family is important, so I focused on helping families.  I have been married for almost 35 years and we have six children and ten grandchildren (so far!).  So when I opened my own firm, I started helping people who are going through the toughest times in their lives—divorce and child custody battles--and I developed an approach that is different than most attorneys.  In our firm, we look to our clients’ future, not just their past.

I love to use my skills developed as a high-stakes business litigator to help families.  With our forward-looking approach, divorce or separation or child custody proceedings can be the beginning of a brighter, more fulfilling future.  Instead of taking a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach to your family law matter like most attorneys, we carefully consider your situation, provide options, and work with you to plan and execute a strategy to help you on your way to a better and brighter future.

Even though your family will change, we can help conduct your divorce or custody dispute so that your family can continue, so that your child can comfortably invite both of you to her wedding, and so that you can be a part of your grandchildren’s lives.  By taking a healthy approach, you can continue to be a good example to your children.

Every case is different, but to us, it is also personal.  We can help plan and conduct your case so that your future will be better.
