State of North Carolina v. John Doe

Curtis A Sluder

Practice Area: Criminal Defense

Outcome: Dismissal

Description: Often the best results in a case come not from trial, but from resolving the case before trial. I have won and lost at trial, but countless times I have prevented my client from ever being exposed to the risk associated with a trial. The District Attorney is a lawyer also. And in most cases, once the facts and the law are expressed to a good district attorney, the DA may see that prosecuting the case as charged does not serve the ends of justice. I am always preparing for trial, but aiming for this outcome- Trial is always a gamble. I like a sure thing. If a client has a good case, one that I believe we can win at trial, I prepare to take that case to trial. I never show all my cards prior to trial, but Often show a good enough hand to the DA and reach the resolution my client and I decided would be a victory prior to spinning the roulette wheel that is a trial.
