Kight on Cannabis: The Definitive Word on Weed.

Rod Kight is an award winning lawyer, advocate, and author focusing his efforts on supporting providers, farmers, manufacturers, scientist, laboratories, and the retail industry surrounding the commerce of industrial hemp and legal recreational and medical cannabis. Visit the website: . [Note: Website goes live end of January 2018. Stay tuned!] I have a personal interest in cannabis. I experimented with it recreationally in college and, frankly, continued my “experimentation” off and on into adulthood.

In my mid-thirties I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy treatments. I did not try cannabis as a medical aid at first. This was due to a misplaced belief that trying it as a medical aid would really be nothing more than using my illness as an excuse to get high. However, on a particularly difficult day when I was feeling miserable, I broke down and smoked marijuana with my brother. The experience was stunning and remarkable. Within fifteen minutes I felt significantly better and had an appetite for the first time in days. My flu- like aches subsided and my nausea disappeared. Certainly, I was not 100 percent better. However, I felt well enough to spend a pleasant evening talking with my brother. I ate two helpings of spicy Indian food and slept well enough to regain some lost energy. Had I not smoked marijuana that evening I would have remained in bed, not eaten, and spent most of the night tossing and turning, nauseated and in agony. My energy levels would have continued their steep decline and I would have been worse off for the next treatment.

Cannabis helped me through chemotherapy and I resolved at that time to become an advocate for its legalization. In addition to aiding with side effects of chemotherapy, new research suggests that it may also be important in treatment and even prevention of certain diseases.

I also have a long-time interest in business law. Law students do not typically have “majors” (or “minors”) in legal subjects in the same way that undergraduates do. However, a law student can choose to focus on a specific legal area by taking multiple courses in that area. In my case, I took every business law class that was offered in law school. As a philosophy major in college I was intrigued by the strange implications of being able to create a separate legal individual under the law and the tensions that such an arrangement could create between natural entities (i.e., people) and artificial entities (i.e., corporations). (That issue has been playing out in the Supreme Court recently, but in another context.) The metaphysics of the corporate veil and limited liability fascinated me.

Later, after starting my own law practice, the practical aspects of running a business— bookkeeping, marketing, taxes, employee management, financing, etc.— captivated me. Over the years, my law practice quickly migrated toward bankruptcy law. I eventually became a bankruptcy specialist and have represented numerous businesses through difficult reorganizations. I have also maintained a general business and commercial litigation of this is to say that being a cannabis business lawyer feels natural to me and was probably inevitable. Thank you for reading.

THE BEST OF THE BEST LAWYER YOU CAN GET!
This is a brief but very well deserved "THANK YOU" to Rod Kight, and to Ashley Poteet-Kight, of Kight Law Office, PC in Asheville, NC. About two to three years ago I began to have panic attacks regarding credit card debt that I was finding increasingly difficult to manage. My husband and I had moved to North Carolina from many successful years in Florida, and he felt it was retirement time. I had not quite planned on a sudden move like this but thought I would find a new job and pay off the credit card debt we had. Unfortunately, work is not readily available in the mountains and instead of paying off, the debt began to increase. I knew I had to do something and I began researching bankruptcy as a last resort. I soon learned I needed the help of an expert and so I turned my efforts to finding someone I could trust and feel I could bare my soul to in order to try and sort out my options. My husband wanted no part of a bankruptcy so I took that path alone, but with the critical help of Kight Law Office. I can't thank them enough for all the help and guidance and compassion I received in sorting out what needed to be done. In a matter of a few months Rod was able to have all my unsecured debts resolved and I felt I could breath again. Ashley was always just a phone call away whenever I had questions or concerns and she was so knowledgeable and calm, it was like therapy for my anxiety. For anyone needing help with legal matters, credit issues and bankruptcy, I highly recommend the law office of KIGHT! They are top notch professionals and will ease your mind and body of the stress and embarrassment associated with matters so personal and overwhelming. Take my word for it, you won't be sorry if you pick up the phone and make an appointment with Kight Law Office!

Superb Personal Bankruptcy Lawyer
Rod Kight, Jr., handled my Chapter 7 bankruptcy from start to finish. Rod and Ashley - his wife and Office Manager - took me step-by-step through the process and were always available for any questions that might arise. This is a very difficult process for anyone to go through and the Rod Kight Law firm was very sensitive to making my bankruptcy filing and eventual discharge by the court as straightforward and painless as possible which was deeply appreciated.

Highly recommended for bankruptcy!
Kight Law offices went above and beyond handling our bankruptcy! I had many many questions, and Ashley or Rod ALWAYS gave me answers usually within minutes, and never longer than 24 hours. They made this process so much less stressful than it could have been! I HIGHLY recommend them for any legal needs they handle. Thank you Kight law offices!

Exceptional advocacy
After consulting with several attorneys in Asheville, we met with Rod and immediately realized we’d found the best. He provided great counsel and helped us resolve our bankruptcy case in a way that had significant outcomes for our family. His approach in both manner and substance stands in stark contrast to other attorneys who laid out a very different course of action. Others were dismissive and patronizing and didn’t deliver the kind of professional service that Rod Kight and his staff provided. After working with Rod, there isn’t the slightest doubt in our minds that we received the very best representation and guidance available in Asheville. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation we did, after years of hard work, raising children, facing health crises, etc., do yourself a favor and meet with Rod. Along with professional accumen, Rod is a great guy. He really does like to help, and I hope he knows how far reaching his professional services are. I shudder when I think of the dark path laid out by other counsel, and remember the deep breath we took when we consulted with him. Thanks Rod, you’re a great human being-

Helping two disabled seniors.
My wife and I are in our mid 60's, disabled and on fixed income. We have been through really rough times the last 15 years. Family deaths, troubled children marriages, Domestic violence. Becoming disabled. Elderly parents needing aid 100's of miles away. Our finances were in shambles from helping our children and others with legal fees, credit cards, 2nd mortgages, it got to the point we were served papers by the Sheriff to come and take our belongings to pay our creditors. That is when Rod Kight agreed to take our case and get us out of debt, stop the Sherriff and put us on a path to a fresh start. Rod and wife Ashley worked vigorously, always available, answering all questions, and just handling everythng after we sent them the required documents. Generous kind caring and considerate of our feelings and emotions and our embarrassment being in such trouble this late in life. We can not say enough how these angels came into our life and answered our prayers when we had nowhere to turn! Thank you two so much! And God Bless You!

Help in troubled times
Lots of things can wrong in our lives today. One of those things is a lot of unexpected expenses that pile up. It took years of those kind of expenses to pile up in our lives. Rod was the knight on the white horse. He helped us through a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Everyone at the office was understanding and helpful. It was a smooth adventure all the way. We came away feeling relieved and confident that this had been the right thing to do and we had the best lawyer for the job. Thanks for getting us through this difficult time.

Help saving our home.
When I searched for a bankruptcy attorney Almighty GOD led me to Kight Law Office. This was the best move I could have ever made! Being scared of loosing your home of 25 years and being unable to eat or sleep caused me lots of problems as well as my wife's health got bad also, but when I was able to talk to Rod, he brought about instant relief! We talked about 45 minutes and he listened to me and my concerns and then explained everything to me. Afterwards I was able to function again and with GOD's help I as able to obtain another loan modification on our home. It took a year to do this and all year long Rod and his wife Ashley never forgot about us and always helped me and gave me advise. When I emailed them and let them know we were able to get another loan modification Ashley wrote back and was so happy for us. In my email I asked how much did I owe them for all of the help and advise they gave me and the reply was "you don't owe us anything!" Now I ask, how many attorneys out there would work with you for a year, helping with this or that and giving advise and not charge you a dime? I tell you, it would be very few who would do as Rod and Ashley did for us! This shows you just what type of a person Rod is and what type of Law Office he runs and his staff are all professionals at what they do. Plus they are CHRISTians who love GOD, The FATHER and The SON JESUS CHRIST and that is number one in my book! In closing if you need a attorney who will go the extra mile for you and stand beside you until the end and treat you with respect then Rod Kight Law Office is the one you need on your side, winning your case! Thanks Rod and Ashley and all who work for you, for all you did for me and my family!

Excellent Lawyer - Customer Oriented and Candid
Rod is an excellent lawyer. I work with many lawyers in my profession, and have for many years. Rod handled my Bankruptcy filing perfectly, no glitches, no flaws, no hurry up and get these documents as to me as I didn't get them from you... Everything was planned, executed and done on time, in a well organized fashion, and his team of support was professional, quick to respond, and of tremendous help. I highly recommend Rod as bankruptcy attorney. I cannot provide any higher praise this: There is a myriad of emotional issues that one goes through in this process, coupled with fears and questions. Rod took care of everything, including setting my mind at ease, answering questions, and providing easy to understand answers, and empathy regarding my situation. If you need a bankruptcy attorney, choose Rod Kight.

Made me feel like there was hope.
I never done anything like this before. Bankruptcy seemed like a dark, looming cloud that would sentence me to years and years of financial suicide. The connotation around bankruptcy lawyers seemed similar. I was very nervous when I first stepped into Mr. Kight's office. Not only did the entire staff ease my nerves, but Rod himself was incredibly understanding and reassuring. Although the process of getting my financial documents together was definitely hard work, The entire office was working hard for me. When I got discouraged and got behind, they would follow up with me and ask if they could help. When there was some documents I didn't know how to get from the IRS, they had the resources available to help me. This office isn't a place that will enable your previous financial decisions, but will truly assist you in turning a new page in your life. I never thought that I would feel hope when I realized I had to declare bankruptcy. But with Kight Law Office, Rod and the wonderful staff- I realized that restoration could be possible, that this was something I could recover from, and gave me the tools to move forward. For The first time in a long time, I feel hope.

Bankruptcy Case
Rod Kight and his law office just recently filed and closed up a bankruptcy case for me and I can't thank them enough. They were amazing. I was terrified when I first called them, as I had bad experiences with lawyers in the past. The lawyers that I have experienced have always been impersonal, intolerant, and have treated me simply as a case number. Rod and his team were so kind, comforting, reassuring, and were incredibly supportive. Sounds crazy, but I almost felt like I was part of a family! They made the whole process completely painless for me. My calls were always taken, and when I had to leave a message, they always responded never later than a day!! They were in constant contact with me during the process, reminding me about time frames for documents needed and reassuring me when I started worrying and/or panicking. I asked so many questions, many of them repeated, and they ALWAYS answered them. I just cant believe that I have gone through something as devastating as bankruptcy! I recommend this firm to anyone and everyone who needs a bankruptcy lawyer! You will never find a better one..I just wish they did every type of legal service out there, because then I would never have to go anywhere else! :) Thank you Rod Kight!!
