TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE

BEWARE OF THIS FAMILY LAW FIRM!! I was represented by Tessa and Matthew Cohen Until recently for almost a full year. After about five months of the representation they just completely stopped working for me and they are very hard to get a hold of. They like to make a lot of promises and then do not... come through just to keep you on board with them. I worked directly with their assistants when we were not in court and they fired not 1 but 2 of their assistants while working on my case. This ultimately cost me a lot more money because you have to re-go over everything with the new assistant and I did this three times. Their current assistant to my knowledge is Michelle an is complete nightmare. She has yelled and hung up on me on two different occasions in three months of working with her. Overall I parted ways with these attorneys and they have still withheld my information and tried overcharging me numerous times. The payments that I already made they do not put in the outstanding balance and do not ever get back to you or acknowledge that they are wrong to get the bill straightened out. Terrible experience with Matt and Tessa and Cohen family law. This firm is all about money, they take on so many cases that they lose your paperwork, overcharge you and do not respond. very unorganized, extremely unprofessional and unreliable.

Thankful to have her

Tessa is my second family law lawyer I’ve had, and she took me on last second when I was in desperate need of a lawyer. My last lawyer (all though an awesome go getter bulldog) wanted to extort me with an impossible trust fund all at once to deal with my aggressive ex-husband. Who could blame him, my... ex is relentless, and being self employed as a lawyer I get it. I basically got business broken up with on that. But Tessa sends you a trust balance to sign/pay, and if the balance goes over there’s another bill sent to give you a little time to pay, which I really appreciate. Easy online paying Tessa follows the timeline of the courts motions promptly. In my case, the opposing counsel tried saying they didn’t have enough time to file response documents and Tessa totally shut them down in front of the judge and even remembered the exact date she filed our sides documents, and pointed out that they had an entire day to see what we filed and enough time to supplement on their side if they wanted to. She also argued for me till the very end of the hearing, until the judge decided she didn’t need to hear anymore. My previous lawyer liked being to the point with the judge and wiping his hands clean.. But Tessa talked/argued for as long as the judge let her (while still being polite), and I’ve never felt more validated and heard in court. I could tell she knew my case, and even asked for things I wasn’t prepare for but I totally agreed with. ex. Tessa asked the judge if it was really necessary that I have to be the one to physically exchange the kids with my ex husband, because he continues to be physically and emotionally abusive That alone really caught my attention and impressed me, when it was something I didn’t ask for nor talk about, but it was something personal she understood She’ll call or text you whenever she needs too, and she’ll respond if something urgent pops up for legal advice. She’s also courteous to opposing counsel by being polite and considerate of their schedules, but also stating what she wants and what her intentions/plans are. I’ve seen lawyers totally be inconsiderate to each other, and this might even be a small factor that can play in an outcome in the tone/energy the lawyers have with each other, and therefore outcomes in the case… I believe anyways, I’m not a lawyer myself but I can only assume. My ex husbands lawyer is high end and probably overpaid only because the lawfirm he works at. Tessa is handling great on my end and reliable. I’m super excited to have her and I plan on keeping her for as long as I can

Child Custody Battle

My Family was blindsided with restraining order and custody papers. We quickly looked for an attorney to take our case in a quick time frame. We set up with an appointment with Matthew and Tessa Cohen. They were amazing from that moment on. That very day they represented us in court. We WON! The ne...xt case was a little more drawn out, but they helped us through it. They were so knowledgeable and straightforward. They told us what we needed to present and when it had to be filed. They presented previous cases to show the court what the law stated. They always let us know what to expect. They are amazing, and MY Family will forever be grateful to them and their expertise. A great TEAM!

I believed in her, but ultimately let down

I'm in a 50/50 joint custody situation, need to relocate due to remarriage, husband cannot relocate due to business. I hired Mrs. Cohen to represent me, and, as I have absolutely no experience in legal procedure, placed my full trust in her. As I was in a hurry to move, she suggested we motion ...to relocate. Much to my embarrassment, opposing counsel pointed out that proper procedure is to modify the parenting plan. The judge didn't just deny the relocation, but chastised her in court. She was stuttering and unable to provide any supporting case law, as opposing counsel had. If this was my only problem, it wouldn't be much more than a 3 month serback, but it's not. She broke multiple appointments, was a poor communicator, and very distracted by her merging her practice with another. She never provided an invoice, as per our contract, yet repeatedly asked me for more money. She moved into her new office about a week or 2 after we retained her, yet she didn't disclose that she'd be moving, yet, upon moving, requested a new retainer and that I pay her a second $3500 retainer fee. I told her to provide an invoice to see how close to replenishing fundsI was. She never has yet. I'm surprised by the lack of professionalism. Perhaps my expectations weren't fair? I don't know, I only met her at the consultation and some on the phone 2 additional times Emails were rare No paralegal. I wouldn't know what an appropriate expectation should be since she's my first attorney and a poor communicator. I'll be more careful in the future.

Client review~Family law/Separation with one disabled child/Domestic Violence Involvement

Tessa Cohen took my case knowing that many factors involved were going to be unique, drawn out and somewhat difficult for me. She has done so with the kindness and ease that you would only see on television. I appreciate her professionalism, conduct and sensitivity to my case. I came to her extremel...y prepared and with an open mind knowing that I could trust that my desires for the outcome in my case would be honored and fought for. She is personable, easy to talk to and ensures that a full understanding is reached before proceeding to the next item at hand. She is a top-notch lawyer with real, genuine integrity. She is very focused and is never distracted or overwhelmed. She is clear about costs and I never felt that there were "hidden" fees or charges that would arise. My daughter is blind and I felt that she had a great understanding of family law and how it pertains to the disabled child. I am proud that she and her husband Matt Cohen were my team of lawyers. They work extremely well together, complimenting the style of one another. Tessa does not let situations rattle her, lawyers intimidate her, or the endless paperwork compromise her dedication to professionalism. I am not a writer, but I hope that you have learned a little about her ethics from reading my review. Choose Tessa as the first person you consult with if you have any questions about family law. Her fees are reasonable and I know that was a concern of mine when meeting with attorneys. She will give you a clear understanding of what can be expected in the time to come. ~Thank you Tessa for your hard work and dedication to keeping my family safe ~
