I focus my law practice at Wheeler Boyd PLLC exclusively on defending DUI cases as well as other driving-related criminal charges. To this end, a large portion of my practice in this area is devoted to navigating the collateral licensing issues that are often associated with those charges, including Department of Licensing administrative hearings (also called “Implied Consent” hearings). I have argued over five hundred hearings, successfully obtained over 170 dismissals, and prevailed on several appeals in Clark County Superior Court (including several commercial licensing cases). The odds are often stacked against drivers at these hearings, and I am passionate about ensuring that every detail and piece of evidence is carefully examined to craft the best legal defense possible at these hearings.

Beyond criminal and administrative DUI litigation, I was also chosen to work with the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL) to assist in drafting statutory amendments and law changes relating to DUI licensing issues. In 2019, I testified in front of the state senate in support of these positive legislative changes, which simplify many aspects of the licensing process for drivers convicted of DUI-related offenses. I have also worked in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office and the DOL’s Law & Justice Unit to analyze and remedy statutory and systemic licensing flaws, which has helped to improve efficiency and fairness for Washington drivers. Additionally, I was selected by the Washington Foundation for Criminal Justice (WFCJ) as a presenter on DUI licensing strategies at the statewide DUI Defense Seminar in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. As a result of my ongoing work in both the local and statewide criminal defense community, I was awarded the “Rising Star” award by the Clark County Bar Association in 2020. I continue to work closely with the defense community and DOL administration at the forefront of these issues, and I take pride in ensuring that every driver is afforded a fair opportunity to be heard in this complex and often overwhelming area of law.
