One Shrewd Attorney

In June of 2013 my wife was accused by her employer of intentionally violating department policies (that didn't exist) and providing financial benefits to herself that a member of the general public would not have been able to receive (stealing by misuse of official position) . The employer promulgat...ed both of these lies to the media with velocity and was successful in engineering a narrative that had the public at large convinced my wife and many other "minorities" had betrayed the public trust as well as the trust of Management, the City Council & the Mayor. A lengthy Jury trial resulted in the employer successfully being able to defend itself that whatever wrongs it may have done were not the result of discrimination. I provide this background to establish just how bad this situation was for us and what kind of a case Mr. Thal inherited when he accepted it. Conventional wisdom and the advice of multiple other Lawyers all said my wife's Arbitration case was starting from a very weak position and likely to result in another loss. This was the negative type of feedback we received from 2013 through to late 2019 until a fresh set of eyes belonging to Spencer Thal was assigned (by my Wife's Union) to defend my wife at a binding Labor Arbitration. Mr. Thal distilled what was by anyone's standards a MASSIVE amount of evidence and fashioned it into a lethal legal strategy, that initially, was beyond my understanding. My wife and I were very upset and wanted an Attorney to tear apart the employer like a Bear mauling - this isn't how it went down however. I had the pleasure of watching Mr. Thall do what no one else had been able to do and the experience of watching him slowly "constrict" opposing counsel and their parade of lying witnesses was not unlike watching a python slowly crush and swallow something larger than itself on the Discovery Chanel! Spencer summarily wrapped up opposing counsel with their own lies and shot a series of silver bullets he crafted into the monster that had hurt my wife and so many other people. The crazy thing is that he did the majority of this without the other side realizing what was happening to them - he was polite, articulate and unlike what I thought an Attorney would have to do to win. At the very end of the hearing opposing counsel sort of just went limp like an animal that realizes its in the jaws of a superior predator and its game over. After everything my wife and I had been through over the prior 7 years watching the employer get caught and defeated by their own lies was really therapy Par Excellence. The Arbitration Award Spencer was able to get for my wife allowed us to get a large degree of closure for what was otherwise a horrible experience - we finally got that legal finding that the employer had LIED. If I ever again have the misfortune of needing another Attorney I would without hesitation want Spencer to represent me, a family member or a friend. If you are looking for a outstanding Lawyer you would be foolish not to run your case by this one.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
