The option my Commanding Officer gave to prosecutors was for me to take a deal that included getting busted down in rank and force retiring at just over 23 years of dedicated, and stellar service, or to go to court martial and potentially lose everything with potential time in the brig. Thankfully, ...I had a ton of input from close friends and colleges telling me that the level of punishment that my CO was seeking was unjustified and I needed to fight to keep my rank and to continue my career.
