Senior Engineer of a Fortune 500 Company

Having had the opportunity to witness and make substantial contribution to the growth of one of the largest and fastest growing corporations over the past decade had always made me feel proud. For the most recent years, working full time at the same company with a serious disability had also been... something that gave me so much hope and purpose in life until all of a sudden the reasonable accommodation I had been officially receiving was abruptly taken away from me by a new management following my medical leave. Then one event after another started to evolve blurring the boundary between a bad noir story and an outright nightmare. Before long, I found myself working very long hours, struggling with a serious disease and at the same time fighting discrimination at a place I loved so much. In the months that followed, I complained to the company time and again, but to no avail. Along the way, I discovered the sad reality that as long as someone is labelled "low performer", even when the premise is completely false, the whole corporate machine would crushing down on you like a hurricane without any mercy and never bother to check on the supporting facts. At last, I gathered all my energy, wrote through many dark nights, and finally filed an official complaint in writing. I was issued an official response the very next day - a termination letter. Looking for an attorney to take my case then became another uphill battle until Greg from Scott's team called passionately, following a conversation with one of my witnesses. To summarize Scott's team, the words from one of the firm's past clients come to my mind - personable professional, success. Along the process, I delightedly discovered Scott's team has quite an interesting mix of personalities under their attorney's dark suits. Aside from being extremely intelligent, they are indeed a passionate bunch. As a client, you not only will feel very safe with your case in their hands, but also you will feel being blessed to be associated with these people that can make a legal struggle that much different from what one usually expects. They went through extra miles to shield unnecessary pressure and anxiety from their clients, while at the same time, worked diligently to protecting client's interests. At the end of the day, I feel satisfied that my lost pay was reasonably compensated, Scott's team was rewarded for their hard work, and I got a sense of justice. Although my case ends here, I believe without a doubt that the story with Scott's team will continue. With their almost contagious passion and exceptionally persistent fight for justice, certain corporations' bad behaviors will change and our society could become an even better place for all the hard working good people to enjoy their lives without having to face any type of wrongful discrimination.

Unlawful Termination

The experience of being unlawfully terminated from a job is a shocking and terrifying experience. One quickly learns that the laymen’s knowledge of the law is woefully inadequate to take on an employer regardless of how fraudulent their actions may be. The faster one understands that they need a ...strong legal advocate; the sooner one can get on with their lives, secure in the knowledge that their interests are being vigorously represented. Scott Blankenship and his staff fought like Tigers for me in a case which I believed I was unlawfully terminated. The preparation of case documents, court filings and interviewing of witnesses was detailed and left no stone unturned. Scott was nothing short of ferocious in his deposition of the defendants. Scott prepared me to provide clear and concise testimony during my deposition which reduced both the stress and uncertainty of the proceedings. In the background, the Blankenship staff of highly trained and motivated legal experts worked tirelessly from the beginning to the conclusion of my case to insure nothing was left to chance. My case was resolved in Mediation in a way that I received significant compensation for my damages and also the return of my dignity. I highly recommend Scott Blankenship and his outstanding staff of legal experts. National Sales Manager of an International Company

Unrelenting Powerhouse

As you go through life you compile a mental list of those things that are most important. A solid family, good health, friends, and for some of us the occasion will arise to add one more item to the list — a great attorney. Nobody wants to seek legal help, but sometimes things are so egregious we... are left with no other alternative. I am a college educated veteran with more than 35 years as a successful business person in upper management. For many years I worked at the same firm and as my tenure there grew, so did the constant kidding about my age until it got downright nasty. Then it became a focal point to get rid of me when I complained about it. There is a lot more to the story, but let it suffice to say that being forced out solely because of my age was a real blow. This began two of the longest years of my life. I found Scott Blankenship after my former employer’s mother in law suggested I retain him. She had just won a suit against a former employer on similar grounds using Scott. I know this is getting a little complicated, but it points out how bad an employer can be when even his own family says to sue him. Scott and his staff teamed up and were unwavering in their assault. The opposition tried to drag in every phony witness they could muster, filed a counter suit and Scott picked them all apart in court like a skilled surgeon. He flushed out the liars and until finally they had no more falsehoods they could manufacture. Let me tell you there were some dark days in this lawsuit. The business community in our area got wind of it, and I had trouble finding work. But Scott never wavered; he fought as hard the last day as he did the first. We settled after more man hours then you can imagine. Scott’s firm, his close association with the EEOC, his reputation in the legal community with the judges and other attorneys assured our victory. You feel like you’re working with some very high test legal firm as depicted on TV. Actually you are working with an experienced, competent, and talented firm, absolutely the best. If you have any doubts, check his website for all the cases he has won and settlements he has received. A satisfied client.

Grateful for the team at Blankenship

I was taken on as a client for a wrongful termination and discrimination case. Everyone I worked with at the firm really cared about my case and seeking justice. All were friendly and kind. I have never worked with lawyers or had litigated ever, so I was really green to how things operate. My feedbac...k for future clients and or firm is to provide a breakdown of billable hours throughout the case. I didn’t even get a breakdown once it ended, only told the total amount in mediation. My case lasted 3.5 years and had I been aware of what their billable hours were building too, I wouldn’t have been as shocked with what I got from my settlement once their fees were taken out. I was also shocked that it wasn’t until mediation day that my team discovered the opposing sides business insurance total payout amounts. It limited what we were ultimately allowed to settle for, as opposing would not go beyond the cap allowed. Greatly reducing what the original offer started at and what my team felt my case was truly worth. So if there is a way for the firm to look into that in the early days, it could help determine how long the case should go on for, knowing the billable hours will always surpass the 40% fee agreement. Overall, I am pleased with the team and everyone who fought hard for me. Just a little shocked at the breakdown of everything in the end.

"I had the pleasure to work with Scott as co-counsel in the race discrimination trial of Zhang v. American Gem Seafoods. The jury returned a verdict of $3,100,000.00, which is one of the highest awards ever returned for this type of case. Scott fought for this client serving as appellate and lead counsel all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. He ultimately obtained a final recovery of close to $4,000,000.00. This exceptional outcome is a testament to Scott’s high standards of trial preparation, tenaciousness in court, and skill as an appellate lawyer. I have no hesitation in recommending Scott to any potential client. Peter M. Brown, Dawson-Brown ps"

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
