Amazing attorney for complex divorce cases

Alan was a great asset in our complicated divorce that involved a complex financial settlement, custody issues, and numerous attempts to escalate the situation from the opposing side. He gave me great advice from the initial discussion to the trial, he did a great job at preparation for the trial and... he was excellent at presenting our case to the judge to ensure a good outcome. Alan also helped tremendously in efforts to avoid escalation and when the escalation was necessary, he did a great job at finding the right approach to achieve a good outcome. Alan and his assistant were always prompt to respond and tackle the issues at hand. Alan worked with me closely to make our case, and choose a realistic course of action to deal with the most important challenges and to avoid wasting time and resources on things that did not really matter. Alan had great insights into every aspect of the divorce from financial issues to custody. He gave me advice on preparing the numerous documents, oftentimes avoiding additional costs. He was invaluable in protecting our child during and after the divorce. Alan understood the way the courts work and helped to ensure that the proposed settlement and parenting plan will be accepted by the judge, which is exactly what happened. In summary, I was greatly impressed by Alan’s level of professionalism and ethics, and if you are looking for an attorney who will get the job done and get it done efficiently and well, I strongly recommend his services.

Disorganized and always on the defense

I hired Alan on pure referral as someone to help me defend a child support modification filed from my former spouse. He asked me for information or details but then interrupt and be dismissive. He would only explain legal jargon with lots of prompting. He showed up late to a trial. We had a 1.5 h...our mediation to which nothing came from it. He was always on the defensive and never used the expensive research to help defend a position. He never wanted to meet in person as he works outside of the City. His manners are rude and demeaning. Due to time constraints with the trial date, I could not change lawyers but should have. In the end, he lost every trial, mediation and oral argument. I was charged for tons of prep work yet spent hours a day myself correcting his work and writing his briefs. He checked out on Fridays when all verdicts are decided and ultimately I walked away with the worst possible outcome. Another attorney had to step in at the end as he left the court order non enforceable. He lost to an unknown criminal law attorney that charges a fraction of what he does an hour. I can only guess the embarrassment this caused his firm. Save your money and find an attorney that wants to help you versus just have a billable client that he tells what to do.

Great attorney for complicated people situations

Alan handled a very complicated and contentious divorce for me. There was mental illness involved on the opposing side as well as a gamut of unseemly and aggressive behavior from both the opposing council and the opposing party. Alan never lost his cool when dealing with this complex situation.... It was a complex people situation as well and he handled this wonderfully and quite skillfully. He knew when to push, when to back off, and how to phrase communications so that they have the intended affect. He also naturally kept the facts and possibilities of the case front and center and separated the often-emotional response from what was legally and realistically the best course of action. Furthermore, he was able to explain all of this in layman's terms. Alan truly advised me: he took my ideas and worked with me to turn them into a solid legal plan of attack. I was able to own the process and I learned how to handle my communications with the other party by following his guidance during the divorce. I ended up writing a lot of the documents with his help which saved attorney's fees and allowed me to convey what I felt needed to be said. He was involved as needed at every step of the process and he always answered all of my questions and worked with me on finalizing the documents before they were submitted. Alan truly cared about my situation, worked tirelessly to get me the best outcome possible, and was ethical in his dealings with me and with the other party. I have nothing but good things to say about how he and his office handled the case.

Not worth the fee

per our contract, Alan has agreed to help me with my case against my ex. Even when the mother did not let me participate in medical decision, in daycare choice, school choice, Alan always prevented me from raising issues using the legal system in order to protect my rights. This is a pattern ever sin...ce my ex and my legal case began. Prior to our separation, and also afterwards, I always treated my ex with respect. Even when my son has some behavioral challenges. I am the only one who could help my son. I believe Alan is either unwilling to help me further with my case, or unable to find a way to win against the attorney and mediator from the other side. I always had to ask for information from Alan and his assistant. They do not proactively share information with me after their discussion with my ex's attorney or the commissioner. After the first legal trial, I was only given much less than half of the time with my son, and my ex was given the custodian parent. Even according to the parenting plan, mother and father should have equal rights in decision making, Allan was reluctant to help me raise my issues with arbitration when my ex prevented me from equal decision making. Allan also did not help me with the school district telling them that custodian parent is confusing and against Washington state law, according to the commissioner. I had to go to the school district and meet with the teachers and principal to make them understand the law and the parenting plan. When my ex was moving across town and I was not in agreement to her move with my son, Allan initially wanted to prevent me from objection. But I know my son needs me the most and my ex was using the move to take my son away from me. So I objected, but had to write the objection letter all by myself. Even for arbitration, I have to list reasons for preventing the move myself. I had to write declaration letter for my son's doctor and ask her to sign. Allan and his assistant did not even proof-read it and just sent it in. As a result, my ex and my son move across town, and I had to buy a house close to them in order to be close to my son. As summary, Allan knows the law and legal system but did not do enough for the best interest of my son. He is not worth the legal fee I paid. Even without him, I would be in the same place I am in today.

LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE FOR ONE MAN

I called a few different law firms no one would take my case. I drove to a law firm were I was suppose to have a consultation whit & attorney he refuse to see me because I had my youngest daughter 3 at the time. He's only words to me were there are 2 firms in Seattle that might be able to help you. 1... was Wechsler Becker,LLP the second one didn’t even call me back. I spoke to a lady at Wechsler Becker, She dint know if MR. funk would call me back but to give her a few case Numbers and other information that she would forward to MR. Funk. As I spoke to her I realized that these people were very professional from the start. A few hours went by then I received the call that changed my life. It was MR. Funk we talked a little he set up a consultation with me. The rest is history for me. He was not only my Attorney that would carry me the long way but a friend and staff that treated me and my youngest daughter like family. He's staff accommodated her from day 1 so I could have my consultation with MR. Funk. The process took almost a year very rocky from court to court. At one point I told MR. Funk that I could not afford his services I was very sad, confused, frustrated etc. As I have 4 children to take care his words to me were that he would work with me. Set up a payment plan he carried my balance until the end. After My ex wife a & I settle he's word to me were not to worry about the BALANCE that it was his CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR MY KID’S & I. I have admired MR. Funk all the way to the end. Were ever we went in the court house he was well recognized an respected among his pears & court staff Ill never for get the look on one commissioner that I went to see with him at the first hearing that determined the custody of my children with me. It was not a good look but he knew who MR. Funk was all about, FACTS after seen his work thought E-Files he had provided the commissioner. He hear the other sides argument. But when it was all said an done. He went whit MR. Funks work an granted custody of the children to me the father. In my life I have come across quite a few people Rich & famous but never before a man like Alan. There are very few people like him in this world. His a business men an at the same time he is family. I have learned from him. What real mean & woman are all about from the experience I had with his staff an him. When he was unable to be with me at a hearing he would have one of his colleagues be there with me on last minute notice. Divorce can be a pain full, rest less & confusing process. I will never forget Alan not only for what he has done for me and my family. But in talking to him one on one he is a family man. I had some vision on how my life was changing wile being with him watching the sunset on the horizon over looking Puget sound at my settlement conference when it all came to the END. I will never for get you all at the firm. Best Wishes J.R.P.R.
