Amazing attorney for complex divorce cases

Alan was a great asset in our complicated divorce that involved a complex financial settlement, custody issues, and numerous attempts to escalate the situation from the opposing side. He gave me great advice from the initial discussion to the trial, he did a great job at preparation for the trial and... he was excellent at presenting our case to the judge to ensure a good outcome. Alan also helped tremendously in efforts to avoid escalation and when the escalation was necessary, he did a great job at finding the right approach to achieve a good outcome. Alan and his assistant were always prompt to respond and tackle the issues at hand. Alan worked with me closely to make our case, and choose a realistic course of action to deal with the most important challenges and to avoid wasting time and resources on things that did not really matter. Alan had great insights into every aspect of the divorce from financial issues to custody. He gave me advice on preparing the numerous documents, oftentimes avoiding additional costs. He was invaluable in protecting our child during and after the divorce. Alan understood the way the courts work and helped to ensure that the proposed settlement and parenting plan will be accepted by the judge, which is exactly what happened. In summary, I was greatly impressed by Alan’s level of professionalism and ethics, and if you are looking for an attorney who will get the job done and get it done efficiently and well, I strongly recommend his services.

Excellent litigator

Alan is an excellent litigator. Responsive, reasonable, knowledgeable and prepared. There are no guarantees in litigation, so many variables. Your best guarantee is a competent lawyer. Mr. Funk is exceptionally competent and is very efficient with his time. He knows his audience well and delivers his... cases in a way judicial officers appreciate. Alan is a tough opponent. Retaining Alan is a decision you will not regret. Alan’s staff is excellent, you will never feel like your case is less than top priority for his team. Highly recommend team Funk! You will not be disappointed.

Great attorney for complicated people situations

Alan handled a very complicated and contentious divorce for me. There was mental illness involved on the opposing side as well as a gamut of unseemly and aggressive behavior from both the opposing council and the opposing party. Alan never lost his cool when dealing with this complex situation.... It was a complex people situation as well and he handled this wonderfully and quite skillfully. He knew when to push, when to back off, and how to phrase communications so that they have the intended affect. He also naturally kept the facts and possibilities of the case front and center and separated the often-emotional response from what was legally and realistically the best course of action. Furthermore, he was able to explain all of this in layman's terms. Alan truly advised me: he took my ideas and worked with me to turn them into a solid legal plan of attack. I was able to own the process and I learned how to handle my communications with the other party by following his guidance during the divorce. I ended up writing a lot of the documents with his help which saved attorney's fees and allowed me to convey what I felt needed to be said. He was involved as needed at every step of the process and he always answered all of my questions and worked with me on finalizing the documents before they were submitted. Alan truly cared about my situation, worked tirelessly to get me the best outcome possible, and was ethical in his dealings with me and with the other party. I have nothing but good things to say about how he and his office handled the case.

Not worth the fee

per our contract, Alan has agreed to help me with my case against my ex. Even when the mother did not let me participate in medical decision, in daycare choice, school choice, Alan always prevented me from raising issues using the legal system in order to protect my rights. This is a pattern ever sin...ce my ex and my legal case began. Prior to our separation, and also afterwards, I always treated my ex with respect. Even when my son has some behavioral challenges. I am the only one who could help my son. I believe Alan is either unwilling to help me further with my case, or unable to find a way to win against the attorney and mediator from the other side. I always had to ask for information from Alan and his assistant. They do not proactively share information with me after their discussion with my ex's attorney or the commissioner. After the first legal trial, I was only given much less than half of the time with my son, and my ex was given the custodian parent. Even according to the parenting plan, mother and father should have equal rights in decision making, Allan was reluctant to help me raise my issues with arbitration when my ex prevented me from equal decision making. Allan also did not help me with the school district telling them that custodian parent is confusing and against Washington state law, according to the commissioner. I had to go to the school district and meet with the teachers and principal to make them understand the law and the parenting plan. When my ex was moving across town and I was not in agreement to her move with my son, Allan initially wanted to prevent me from objection. But I know my son needs me the most and my ex was using the move to take my son away from me. So I objected, but had to write the objection letter all by myself. Even for arbitration, I have to list reasons for preventing the move myself. I had to write declaration letter for my son's doctor and ask her to sign. Allan and his assistant did not even proof-read it and just sent it in. As a result, my ex and my son move across town, and I had to buy a house close to them in order to be close to my son. As summary, Allan knows the law and legal system but did not do enough for the best interest of my son. He is not worth the legal fee I paid. Even without him, I would be in the same place I am in today.

Extraordinary, Brilliant, Poised, Confident, Ingenious

I have a very high regard for Alan Funk. First and foremost is his strength of character: he always takes the high road/the ethical course and because he does, his clients have the best outcome. It is possible to have a clear conscience and restful sleep because Mr. Funk will do the right thing and... make sure the children involved will have what they need to grow into happy well-adjusted adults. Mr. Funk is caring, empathetic, brilliant and always poised and confident. He comes up with ingenious ideas and plans to overcome obstacles and opposition (often times his plans are better than those the therapists or GAL’s come up with). He’s always available to answer questions and to help with day-to-day concerns. He is an extraordinary and brilliant strategist. He reminds me of first rate, unsurpassed, virtuous attorneys that are only found in fiction--except this one is real. He has never let me down. If you think Mr. Funk's rates may be unattainable, think again. If Mr. Funk is retained, your money will be more than well spent. I previously spent more than twice the amount of money on an attorney that was careless and ineffective at best. Hiring Mr. Funk ensures that quality and effective representation will be received for a reasonable price. For his price, one does not get someone who only “knows the law;” instead someone is retained who makes a sincere effort, and has vision, integrity, courage understanding, power of articulation and profundity of character, but most importantly, gets results. Mr. Funk is priceless.

"It is a pleasure to endorse Alan Funk. Alan is a rising star in Washington State family law. His great intelligence and energy put him on a level higher than most attorneys. Alan is with the Wechsler, Becker firm, the most prestigious firm in Washington State family law, so he is surrounded by attorneys who are the best at what they do. Alan is an expert on computers and the Internet, so he would be a good choice for people who have cases in the Seattle area but live elsewhere, and so need an attorney who can communicate effectively with clients over the Internet.
