Kathy

Kevin is an amazing lawyer. Very compassionate and understanding. Going through a divorce is an extremely stressful situation to begin with and he helped alleviate some of that stress by listening to my concerns as well as explaining exactly what will happen. After the divorce he has still been acces...sible and responsive to any questions or concerns! Highly recommend!

Reliable

I worked with Kevin and Karina on my case and they were very attentive and prompt on getting me quick results in a timely manner. The urgency they took regarding the welfare of the children involved lead to a speedy turn around and keeping the children safe. I felt they understood my family's needs a...nd were companionate in every aspect.

Not a divorce lawyer!!

He failed to send me copies of paperwork sent to my wife's attorney as per our contract. I gave him copies of 2 medical bills to be forwarded and it didn't happen. Lost out on $1500. Billed me for 5 hours of court time when we only spent 2 hours there. He won't respond to my inquiries. Did not do a v...ery good job of representing me in my divorce, so much for being a lawyer for men.

An attorney who works for you!

I retained Mr. Richardson for my current custody modification and have been nothing but pleased with his work. He is typically very responsive to voicemail and email. I have not once had to wonder what was going to happen when we were in court. He is a great advocate for my child I am trying to ga...in full custody of. I would highly recommend Mr. Richardson to anyone who is a custody battle.

Horrible

In June of 2009 I had hired Kevin Richardson to represent me in my family law case. After I had retained Mr. Richardson I had requested he help me file several motions to address all the important aspects of my case. #1 Motion to find the opposing party in contempt of the Parent Relocation Act / st...atute. #2 Motion to return children to Washington State #3 Motion to press criminal charges for parental kidnapping #4 Motion to apply a temporary parenting plan #5 Motion to obtain child support #6 Motion to modify restraining order Mr. Richardson argued that he should encompass all motions into only one listed as a “MOTION FOR ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE RE CONTEMPT” (6/25/2009) under the assumption that all our desires would be addressed at once. I argued to clearly list all motions independently but he refused to do so and assured me that all of our concerns would be addressed if we did it his way as this was how he understood the judges and commissioners preferred to have it done. I specifically asked if I should provide any further documentation like a parenting plan, financial statement, witness statements or anything else I was prepared to provide, but Mr. Richardson insisted it was not necessary and refused to give my file additional attention for purposes of reviewing detail. After the filing but prior to our court date, I had made 11 attempts via telephone and email to contact Mr. Richardson to discuss our case or setup a meeting to prepare for our hearing. Mr. Richardson refused to engage and I was only able to relay messages to him through his paralegal, Lindsay [last name removed]. On 7/27/09 we went to court before the commissioner who only addressed the contempt motion and berated Mr. Richardson for not filing all necessary paperwork to be completely prepared for the meeting. Commissioner Meagan Foley continued to admonish Kevin Richardson for not following current protocol that was listed in the most recent Bar Association newsletter specifically dictating to provide multiple motions clearly defined when filing. Immediately following that Friday morning’s court hearing, Mr. Richardson told me the next step would be to file all the paperwork I had originally requested we file under my layman’s advice. He said he would file all the motions and additional paperwork the following Monday. When I called to confirm our filings that next Monday I spoke with Mr. Richardson’s paralegal, Lindsay [last name removed], who told me he had no plans to file it on Monday but would be contacting me this week when he does. I learned Mr. Richardson had let go of some of his support staff at that time. By that Wednesday I had not received any call from Mr. Richardson’s office I had called to find only an opportunity to leave a voicemail message. At this time I was unable to file any motions for myself because I was being represented by Mr. Richardson. I could not fire him and have him withdraw himself as my attorney because I had no money to retain another attorney and could not get a hold of him to get resolution. I had continued to call daily over 23 times during the course of 4 weeks to finally get a hold of Mr. Richardson only to learn he had closed his practice and was joining a new practice, Anderson Hosnick. Mr. Richardson told me he would file the motions I needed the following week when he had an opening. When I did not hear from him I continued to call his office regularly and after another 18 more attempts of emails and leaving voicemails after another 5 weeks passed I got a hold of Mr. Richardson. I learn he had not filed the motions he had said he would. Mr. Richardson’s excuse was that he was unable to because the paralegal at his new office had passed away unexpectedly, and he was too overburdened with heavy workload to address my needs. He continued to inform me his firm had just hired his original paralegal, Lindsay [last name removed] who would be able to assist him in filing my paperwork. Within 2 weeks Mr. Richardson’s office filed the paperwork on 9/15/2009. Again, prior to the court

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2013.

Reprimand issued in WA, 2013

updated on 01/16/2016

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Kevin’s comment:

“You can see the context of this reprimand at the WSBA website. The attorney is in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association and has been practicing law with excellent client reviews since 1991.”
