Daniel Matthew McLafferty

About me

I am happy to have called Seattle and the Puget Sound area home since 2001.

After graduating from Seattle’s Ingraham High School, I attended Western Washington University to study Philosophy and Political Science. I had known since high school that I wanted to practice law so after three years of study and earning my B.A. from Western, I went straight to work at the Seattle University School of Law.

While at law school, I devoted most of my time toward practice-based studies to improve my oral advocacy and trial practice. To that end, I spent my final year of law school as a Rule 9 Prosecutor for the City of Marysville, gaining a great deal of courtroom experience. After three years of study, I earned my J.D. and graduated cum laude.

My first job as a lawyer was at a local firm practicing insurance coverage defense. There are a lot of things about the real world that you aren’t taught in law school, and defending insurance companies in coverage disputes felt like jumping in the deep end after just learning how to doggie paddle. After a few grueling months, I was finally able to get my head above water. I learned a great deal about insurance companies, including how they generally operate, how they process claims, and what makes them concerned. Ultimately, I also learned that working for insurance companies isn’t for me.

I am proud and happy to now be working for people instead of insurance companies. The work we do here at Lehmbecker Law is more fulfilling and rewarding than any type of law that I have practiced in the past. I enjoy working to make a difference in people’s lives and to help them out in difficult situations. I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given to make a positive impact on people’s lives by doing work that I love.
