I’m a first timer home buyer and followed some advice that I might need a real estate attorney. I called around and Terry was the only person to say that I might not need a lawyer to close a residential home sale in oregon. There are risks and Terry explained those but for the vast majority of transa...ctions where each party had a real estate agent and it is a conventional loan in general lawyers are not needed. Terry took half an hour putting me at ease about my situation. At least 3 other firms quoted me 1500 or more without hesitation. Will 100% utilize Terry’s services if and when I actually need a lawyer and would 100% recommend him to anyone in need as well.

We consulted Terry about best options in selling our house after being in one place longer than we ever expected. Terry put us at ease with instant rapport, obvious credibility, and patient help, in sorting and focusing on priorities. We were surprised when he declined compensation for our first ...meeting (that ran longer than I expected). We agreed to follow up, as our situation progresses. I'd recommend Terry to anyone needing help in his practice areas. Other attorneys were referred to us, but I'm glad we connected with Terry. If you think you might need an attorney, you probably should talk with one. But do your research first, then choose carefully. After reading about him on Avvo (resume, reviews, "Legal Answers," etc) and elsewhere, my positive impression was more than confirmed in person.

Although we did not end up retaining his services Mr. Scannell was willing to accommodate our situation which was inconvenient and time consuming. The issue involved a small group of owners in our 15 unit condominium complex where our 3 member board was not representing the majority interest. It caus...ed divisions within this small group of owners and was extremely disruptive to our daily quality of life. There were also valid concerns over potentially larger HOA dues and even a significant special assessment. The complex is 55 and over so many long-time owners are on fixed incomes and would not have that financial ability. Mr. Scannell understood this type of problem. He was knowledgeable on complex condominium laws & regulations. Our group of concerned owners was not able to cover the cost of an initial consultation so he offered a free hour of his busy schedule to meet with us. He spent time with me on several phone calls at no cost. In the end we were unable to coordinate our groups schedules and obtain our condominium documents in a timely manner. Mr. Scannell bent over backwards to accommodate us but ultimately we ended up graciously and regrettably dropping our efforts to fight the fight. Definitely our loss! We know for certain that if we do decide to pursue this again Mr. Scannell would be the one we’d call. He’s probably the best there is in this area of consumer law. Dont hesitate! Call him!
