also known as Kaplan Law, LLC
The Law Office of Matthew D. Kaplan was opened in January, 2003. Since that time we have helped hundreds of injury victims and their families achieve justice. We continue to take on some incredibly challenging cases and obtain results for our clients.
Mr. Kaplan earned his BA in History at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1993. He graduated from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California in 1996.
After a road trip through the Pacific Northwest Matthew was committed to moving up north. It took him 2 days in Portland to fall in love with the city. In 1997 he relocated and took a job as a bouncer at a local tavern and began clerking for the Honorable Judge Sidney Galton. While clerking at the Multnomah County Circuit Court he was able to observe trials and courtroom procedures every day. Mr. Kaplan witnessed how a trial lawyer can affect change and really help people who needed someone to stand up for them against either the State, Insurance companies or large corporations with vast resources.
Mr. Kaplan was been a board member of Oregon Safe Kids for several years. Safe Kids Oregon is a nonprofit committed to preventing unintentional injuries to children. Mr. Kaplan has developed a niche in his practice in representing injured children and their families. He also represents severely injured victims who were hurt by drunk drivers. Mr. Kaplan has also taken on Civil Rights cases involving correctional medical neglect resulting in catastrophic loss. Another area that Mr. Kaplan has been successful in is representing victims of horrific industrial accidents, ranging from incredibly complex explosions to confined space injuries, and amputations.
Matthew Kaplan lives in SW Portland with his two sons. He practices yoga, is a 2nd-degree black belt in TaeKwon-Do and tries to maintain a balanced life through daily exercise and reading.

"I have known Matt since the late 90's when he did indigent defense work for Squires & Lopez and I did the same type of work. After we both transitioned from indigent defense, I defended cases where he was the Plaintiff attorney when I worked at Allstate. I have always found Matt to be diligent, passionate, hard-working and knowledgeable in his work. He truly believes in his work and his clients. Matt is also a great guy to deal with. He is able to effectively and zealously advocate for his clients along with being a professional and pleasant guy to deal with. He is an asset to the legal profession."
