Mr. Kaplan earned his BA in History at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1993. He graduated from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California in 1996.
After a road trip through the Pacific Northwest Matthew was committed to moving up north. It took him 2 days in Portland to fall in love with the city. In 1997 he relocated and took a job clerking for the Honorable Judge Sidney Galton. While clerking at the Multnomah County Circuit Court he was able to observe trials and courtroom procedures every day. Mr. Kaplan witnessed how a trial lawyer can affect change and really help peoople that needed someone to stand up for them against either the State, Insurance companies, or large corporations with vast resouces.
Mr. Kaplan has been a board member of Oregon Safe Kids for several years. Safe Kids Oregon is a nonprofit committed to preventing unintentional injuries to children. Mr. Kaplan has developped a niche in his practice in representing injured children and their familes.
Matthew Kaplan lives in SW Portland with his two boys. He practices yoga and is a 2nd degree black belt in TaeKwon-Do and an aspiring triathlete.
