About me

I exclusively practice criminal law, both trials and appeals.  Until 2006, I was the chief attorney in the major felony section of Metropolitan Public Defenders.  A frequent speaker on criminal defense issues in Oregon, on topics ranging from the Oregon Constitution to motion-writing, I am a 2009 winner of the OCDLA's President's Award for my "legal acumen and willingness to assist other criminal defense lawyers."

  • Matthew G McHenry

If I were charged with a crime, I would want Ryan to represent me. His command of case law and related issues is unparalleled. As a criminal defense lawyer myself, one of my standard research steps in novel or complex cases is "call Ryan and see what he thinks." One of the best in Oregon.

  • Andy Simrin

As a criminal appeals attorney, I know that criminal defense at the trial level is challenging work. Hard working, insightful, always on the leading edge of developing legal theory and its application -- it is no wonder that lawyers throughout Oregon look to Ryan Scott for input on their own cases. Anyone accused of a crime deserves the best defense. Ryan Scott delivers.
