Prior to meeting Ken, I had learned through the school of hard-knocks how not to select an attorney: Having been financially blind-sided by my spouse at the outset of a supposed "civil" dissolution, I desperately retained the first attorney I could find a referral for.
A huge and costly mistake.
After spending several thousands of dollars only to have a cookie-cutter dissolution petition filed and responded to, this attorney then also blind-sided me by requiring a retainer renewal of double what I had originally paid and double what we had agreed to going forward, just to continue to prepare my case for trial ... an actually trial was anticipated to cost even more.
Rather than continuing to pour money into that black hole, I decided to fire that attorney and start my efforts anew.
That restart began with a methodical search in an expanding local radius for an a attorney that was physically nearby my residence and near the court of jurisdiction in Hillsboro.
After Identifying a significant list of candidates, I methodically researched each of them.
Based significantly on excellent AVVO reviews, I was fortunate to have found Ken McNeil: an attorney in Hillsboro with a long history in very near proximity to both my residence and the court.
Ken's utterly unassuming nature, calm demeanor, and his adept listening skills that were clearly reflected in his questions and responses to my conveyed history, issues, and concerns.
Ken's initial retainer request and fee schedule were amazingly modest as well.
For the next several months, Ken was an unwavering rock that provided me guidance and solid grounding through the worst "perfect storm" of my life.
Three months after retaining Ken, and upon Ken's request at a status hearing, the presiding judge offered a pre-trial opinion that confirmed my worst nightmare: probable exorbitant lifetime alimony (my terms: the actual legal terms are pure euphemisms) for having financially provided greatly for decades to a wholly insatiable and ungrateful spouse who was demanding far more even than what the judge anticipated.
Fortunately, Ken managed to keep me from going insane while he also doggedly persisted in discovering my spouses under-disclosed financial wherewithal.
Just days before trial, Ken had determined that my spouse's PERS individual retirement account value exceeded what I had thought were the entirety of our joint lifetime retirement savings.
As a direct result, my spouse settled out of court for half of our joint savings plus the entirety of the PERS account. In all, that amounted to 3/4 of our total assets.
BUT, I was no longer on the hook for extortion for the rest of my foreseeable life!!!!
I owe Ken far more than words can possibly convey!!!
I was both blessed and honored to have Ken as my attorney.
I could not possibly endorse Ken McNeil highly enough!!!

When I came to Ken. I just fired another attorney due to him taking advantage of me through a delicate time as I did all my own paperwork.
When I met Ken at our initial meeting. His words is "You don't need to hire me. You got this"! I could have, however at the time of going through child custody I was pregnant and full of emotions. I wanted someone who had the skill set and a degree to make this easy for myself. He did just that. I do refer him and endorse him.
Thank you Ken! I know this is a way overdue review, however three kids now and Ajay is now 2 baby is 10 months and you know the rest.
You are wonderful and since May you will be surprised to find out that my life and my childrens is a lot better.
Thank you is not enough for all the help you did.

Seriously this guy is amazing. I was in a deep hole from my previous attorney whom seem to have made everybody including the judge mad no parenting time with my kids. Then I hired this amazing lawyer and the first time I go in the court I've got a parenting plan which gets my kids every weekend. I highly recommend Mr Ken McNeil for any family law matters that you might run across.

Divorce is a low point in life and having an attorney that is professional, discerning and committed to a fair and just outcome is critical. Unlike other attorneys, Ken takes a measured and fact based approach. Ken is highly collaborative and worked with me to develop the best plan. Simple or challenging, Ken is a dependable ally to have on your side.

I felt very comfortable with Ken from the first time I met him. He is very knowledgeable and confident and that made it easy to work with him. His experience and negotiation strategy led to a very favorable outcome for me in my case for spousal support reduction.
Ken will definitely be the one I call if I ever need legal counsel again.

I worked with Ken McNeil during a very difficult part of my life. Before I met Ken, I had worked with an adversarial, non-service oriented and confrontational attorney. However, Ken was completely different. He was knowledgeable, efficient and professional. He was able to skillfully expedite the process, which saved me thousands of dollars and lost time. Ken and the office staff were incredibly service oriented and returned my calls very promptly, which made communication easy. I would recommend Ken McNeil for anyone needing help with the divorce process.

When you're computer gets a virus and it needs to be repaired, you pay the price to have it fixed by a certified technician. You're technician repairs you're broken computer and gives it back loaded with new software and all new updates. An outstanding technician minimizes future risks by performing updates and being one step ahead of the rapidly changing PC market that is ever so flooded with malware and viruses.
Ken was my technician.
I paid to have a problem resolved. He explained ideas and kept me informed though I had a tough schedule. He helped ensure future problems don't re-occur.
If one day I will need an attorney to help me with an issue, Ken would be the person I would turn to first. Plus, he's an Oregonian!

Ken represented me in my recent divorce. He was the second attorney I met with at the beginning of the process, and I felt much more confident with Ken than the first attorney with whom I consulted.
He kept me informed, answered all of my questions and responded quickly to my e-mails and phone calls. I had specific goals for the settlement, and Ken helped me to achieve them. His knowledge and experience were invaluable to me.
I have never had a legal issue to deal with, so this was completely new to me. But, I was prepared every step of the way because of Ken's guidance. I can confidently recommend him. And, his assistant is fantastic!

Mr. McNeil handled an unpleasant case for me. I have used 2 lawyers previous to Mr. McNeil and he is, without question, the finest I have met. Specifically, he gave me a very fair, thorough initial consultation, and charged a very reasonable retainer. Throughout the ordeal, I felt like he gave me sound advice based on the law, and never told me just what I wanted hear. I'm sure I wasn't the biggest case he was working on; however, I always felt he gave my case his full effort and attention. Mr. McNeil's billing is very detailed. I never felt I was getting billed for anything extraneous (not the case with previous lawyers I've used). The case was resolved in a satisfactory manner; I feel this was a direct result of Mr. McNeil's sound advice and hard work. I would recommend him, without hesitation, if in need of an attorney.
